When pitting the Dyson V15 against any other stick vacuum, it was clear that it possessed a winning edge. This is no surprise, considering that this one holds the mantle of Dyson’s most powerful and intelligent cordless stick vacuum. So can it uphold its winning streak in the face-off between the Xiaomi Dreame V12 vs Dyson V15? As expected, the short answer is Yes.
I could spend all day expressing my profound adoration for the Dyson V15. Boasting the latest cutting-edge technologies from the brand, such as the piezo sensor and Laser Detect, the V15 surpasses all previously launched Dyson cordless vacuums in terms of power and advanced features. Of course, it comes with a hefty price tag that makes it hard to stomach for many people.
While the Xiaomi Dreame V12 may take second place in this comparison, it’s still an option well worth mentioning. Put it up against older Dyson models like the Dyson V11, and I bet it would come out as the winner. It has amazing performance on any surface, is ideal for pet owners thanks to its anti-tangle technology, and comes with a great set of attachments.

Xiaomi Dreame V12 Vs Dyson V15: Difference
The Dyson V15 wins 3-0 and has one tie against the Dreame V12. The winner has slightly better overall cleaning performance, can last longer since it uses a removal battery, and is more convenient thanks to its piezo sensor and “Laser Detect” technology.
Cleaning Performance
Winner: Dyson V15
Suction Power And Floorhead
Holding the title of the most powerful Dyson cordless vacuum, the Dyson V15 is truly a beast with a maximum suction of 230 AW. The Xiaomi Dreame V12 is equally competitive, with an impressive suction power of 200 AW.
Regarding the included cleaning attachments, the Dreame V12 comes with a single multi-surface floorhead outfitted with short, rigid bristles, while the Dyson V15 offers more versatility with two cleaning heads: the Laser Slim Fluffy floorhead and the Digital Motorbar floorhead.
Hard Floor
The Dreame V12 demonstrated impressive performance on this type of surface, eliminating approximately 97% of small and medium-sized debris in the first pass, but it struggled a bit with larger ones like cereal and fruit rings. The clearance of its floorhead is relatively low, resulting in a significant amount of larger debris being pushed forward and to the sides rather than being captured.
I tested the V15 with the new-generation fluffy floorhead, and it had no issues with any debris and easily captured everything without the second pass. As its name suggests, the Laser Slim Fluffy floorhead is equipped with a small green laser called “Laser Detect” technology. This nifty feature made it easier for me to detect fine debris, giving this floorhead a visibility advantage over the previous generation Fluffy floorhead.
Carpet
Contrary to its performance on hard floors, the Dreame V12 handled larger debris more easily. It left virtually nothing behind except for a small amount of fine debris, which was barely detectable to the naked eye. Then I just did the second pass, and everything was gone.
The Dyson V15 continued to have extremely high scores across the board on my carpets. It effortlessly picked up all medium and large debris, leaving behind only an estimated 2% of smaller particles, increasing to about 3-4% on the high-pile carpet.
Hair test
Xiaomi Dreame V12 vs Dyson V15 are both recommended choices for pet owners, given that their floorheads are equipped with some kinds of de-tang technology.
The Dyson V15’s Digital Motorbar head is equipped with polycarbonate teeth ingeniously designed to prevent hair and fur from tangling around the roller. The Xiaomi Dreame V12, on the other hand, features a unique V-shape roller with a built-in comb, similarly purposed to mitigate hair wrap issues. They’re not perfect, but they really work.
The Dyson V15 takes the lead with a screw-shaped tangle-free tool that is engineered so that no tangles can form in the brush. It was really a star in removing pet hair/fur from my furniture.

Unlike the Samsung Jet 90, which comes with a self-standing charging station, or the Shark Stratos, which can stand upright independently, both the Xiaomi Dreame V12 vs Dyson V15 require wall chargers for charging and storage.
The Dreame V12 comes with a wall mount that doubles as a tool holder and a charging station. However, it only accommodates three attachments, not all of them. Also, I didn’t find a way to put some tools on board. An additional point of note is the charging port’s location on the handle rather than the battery, so if the wall mount weren’t screwed into the wall, it would look unsightly.
Similarly, the Dyson V15’s wall station offers a tidy and well-arranged space for the vacuum and two of its attachments. Meanwhile, the wand clip on the vacuum’s body provides additional storage for two other attachments. Notably, the vacuum’s battery can be charged independently of the device. Therefore, if drilling into the wall isn’t to your liking, you have the option of directly plugging the charger into the battery and storing the vacuum elsewhere. And if you’re cash-rich, consider spending on a self-standing charging station for Dyson stick vacuums, which are sold separately.
Weight & Maneuverability
In its fully assembled state, the Dyson V15 tips the scales at 6.8 pounds, whereas the Dreame V12 comes in slightly lighter at 5.8 pounds. While a 1-pound difference might appear negligible on paper, it carries considerable significance in the realm of stick vacuums.
The Dreame V12 allowed me to vacuum for extended periods without causing any discomfort to my hand or wrist. In contrast, with the V15, I needed to alternate hands after approximately half an hour to alleviate fatigue. In the handheld configuration, the Dreame V12’s lighter weight also made it more manageable for cleaning overhead areas like bookshelves and ceilings.
While Dyson’s ability to lay completely flat enables it to reach further under furniture, the Dreame V12, with its flexible adapter, simplifies this task even more. This attachment allowed me to vacuum under all the low-clearance desks without getting lumbago. This tool brought to mind the MultiFlex wand of the Shark Stratos, which is designed for such purposes.
Battery Life
Both the Xiaomi Dreame V12 vs Dyson V15 are claimed to deliver a continuous operation time of 80 minutes between charges. However, it’s crucial to understand that this battery lifespan can only be reached when the vacuum is set to its lowest mode and used with a suction-only accessory, such as a crevice or combination tool. My test showed that they drain the battery significantly faster than quoted:
Xiaomi Dreame V12 | Dyson V15 | |
---|---|---|
Maximum Battery Life | ≈ 44 mins | ≈ 43 mins |
Minimum Battery Life | ≈ 11 mins | ≈ 8 mins |
Charging Time | ≈ 4 hours | ≈ 3.9 hours |
The Xiaomi Dreame V12 uses a built-in battery. This implies that once the battery is depleted, you must place the vacuum on its charging stand and wait approximately four hours before you can resume your cleaning tasks.
The Dyson V15, on the other hand, uses a click-in battery, which is easy to disassemble and swap out. For those in sizable homes who frequently utilize the boost mode for heavy-duty dirt removal, investing in an additional battery is strongly advised. The capacity to charge the battery independently allows you to operate the vacuum with a fully charged battery while another is charging, then alternate them to ensure uninterrupted cleaning.
Dustbin & Filtration System
Winner: Dyson V15
The dust canister of the Dreame V12 has a capacity of 0.5 liters, which is slightly smaller than the 0.6-liter dustbin of its predecessor. While the 0.1-liter difference may not be substantial enough to disappoint me, it is undeniably a step back, isn’t it? Emptying it was pretty easy: all I had to do was press a release button, and all the vacuumed dust and dirt would be sent straight to where it should belong. The manufacturer calls this a Touch-Free process, but I don’t think so since I still had to use my hands to remove some stuck debris and lumps of hair.
The Dyson V15 has a more substantial 0.75-liter dustbin, which can be conveniently emptied thanks to the “point and shoot” mechanism, and indeed, I didn’t come into contact with the dirt. Here is how to empty it: Detach the wand from the dustbin, slide the red lever to release the latch, and then all the debris will fall straight into the trash.
The Xiaomi Dreame V12’s filtration system boasts an impressive 99.87% efficiency. It features a cyclone and a washable HEPA filter, which should be cleaned under running water at least monthly to maintain optimal performance.
Likewise, the Dyson V15 is a godsend for those battling intense allergies, courtesy of its fully sealed filtration system. Its filter isn’t labeled as HEPA (the absolute version is), but it still claims to have a filtering capacity of up to 99.97%. Plus, its washable, reusable nature means no extra expense on frequent replacements—a win for both your wallet and Mother Nature.
Utilities
Winner: Tie
User Interface
The Dyson V15 features a high-tech LCD screen, making it the perfect addition to your smart home. It is conveniently located, so I could monitor the vacuum easier when vacuuming. It shows the current cleaning mode, estimated remaining run time, maintenance alerts, and particulate data (a bar chart showing vacuumed dust particles by count and four sizes – 10, 60, 180, and 500 microns).
What gives the V15 and V12 the edge over their predecessors is an onboard piezo sensor. This sensor can detect changes in particle density and size and provide such information on the screen (and automatically adjust the vacuum’s suction for optimal performance). Without it, I would never know how dirty a particular area is.
I had to keep the Dyson V15’s trigger pressed repeatedly to keep this one working. This design allows for more control over power usage, which is great for battery optimization, but my hands quickly got tired. I found a small button on the screen used to change between modes.
I also love the Dreame V12’s top-notch LCD screen, which shows the most important information about the vacuum’s state: the real-time battery life, the current suction power, and alerts for issues like a full dustbin, a stuck roller brush, and a blocked air duct. The fancy screen leaves a great impression and clarifies that Dreame doesn’t deliver the “knock-off” version of the Dyson vacuums.
There are two buttons above and below the Dreame V12’s screen: one to change the work mode and one to lock the trigger. So I didn’t have to hold the trigger down permanently, which is especially handy for extended clean-ups.
Power Mode
The Dyson V15 has three modes: eco, auto, and boost. As mentioned above, this one has a piezo sensor that can automatically increase and decrease the suction based on the actual dust density. But unlike the Tineco Pure One S12, this feature is only available when the vacuum is used with the main nozzle or the motorized tool.
The Dreame V12’s main nozzle didn’t earn its “Smart Multi Brush Bar” title for nothing. Likewise, when the vacuum is in auto mode, it can modulate suction power based on the surface type. I found it could automatically increase the suction on my long-pile carpet and vice versa on my hardwood floor.
Headlights
The Dyson V15 is the first Dyson stick vacuum equipped with “Laser Detect” technology. It’s basically a little green laser that did a great job of detecting dust and dirt on my floors and under furniture. But this technology is currently only available on the Laser Slim Fluffy floorhead.
