If you’re in the market for a new vacuum cleaner, don’t miss my comparison of Shark ZU785 vs AZ1002 if you are ready to invest in a potent and worthy one. Both are highly effective in removing dirt, dust, and debris from your home, but they also have their own unique features and capabilities. And after comparing their operations and unique factors, Shark AZ1002 has convinced me more!

The Shark AZ1002 also has several useful features, such as a detachable pod for portable cleaning, a HEPA filter that captures 99.9% of dust and allergens, and several cleaning modes that allow you to customize the cleaning power for different surfaces. It also boasts a powered lift-away function for impeccable cleaning against staircases, sofas, and curtains. This vacuum is stable, powerful, and convenient. This is what I look for in the price range!

The Shark ZU785 is a highly-rated vacuum cleaner and is generally considered a good option for households with pets or allergy sufferers. It has a powerful suction that can easily pick up pet hair, dust, and debris from carpets, hardwood floors, and other surfaces. Overall, it has almost every feature that AZ1002 has to offer. But, this model is very heavy to operate, and it has been clogged occasionally.

Shark ZU785 Vs AZ1002: Differences

Shark AZ1002 wins 2-0 and ties once against Shark ZU785. Its cleaning performance is better! Find out why below!

Cleaning performance

Winner: Shark AZ1002

Shark AZ1002 has proven to be a worthy winner when it faces long pet hair, especially when the load is big. However, shark ZU785 is more prone to clogging, particularly if you are vacuuming large amounts of pet hair or debris. While the vacuum has a self-cleaning brush roll that can help prevent clogs, it has clogged a few times for me at the bristle roller and the base of the flexible hose.

But, I have no problem testing these vacuums against dust and smaller debris. The brushrolls help big in breaking down the dust patches. And the suction power is quite potent. There are also 3 adjustments depending on the floor type for a more optimized cleaning performance.

Shark AZ1002 also boasts a powered lift-away, which means the motorized brushrolls will keep rolling even when the floor nozzle is detached from the pod. This helps clean higher areas with more comfort. For example, I have cleaned my carpeted staircase with lots of cat hair and my sofas, which also have a lot of cat hair.

Filtration system and dirt bin

HEPA filters are highly effective at capturing tiny particles that can harm your health. They force air filled with dust and debris through layers of fine mesh and exhaust clean air only, making it safer for users with respiratory difficulties to clean their own homes without the assistance of another user. Both AZ1002 and ZU785 employ this system.

HEPA filters require periodic maintenance, including cleaning or replacement, to ensure they continue to function effectively. Most HEPA filters can be cleaned by tapping them against a hard surface or using a brush to remove excess debris. Most Shark’s HEPA filters are washable as well. So it would be best to do it once every 2 to 3 months.

Regarding the dust containers’ capacities, Shark AZ1002 comes with a 0.22-gallon one, while ZU785 has a 0.26-gallon bin. So, the latter device has more advantages in requiring less frequent dumping in this regard, despite not being much. In addition, both have 2 latches for opening the container. One way is on the top, and the other is on the bottom.

Utilities

Winner: Shark AZ1002

One common complaint about the Shark ZU785 is that it is relatively heavy and bulky. This is what I’m aware of before getting my hands on this 18-pound model. And my testing has proven the complaint to be true. In addition, it is more difficult to maneuver than some other vacuum cleaners, specifically AZ1002. This may be particularly challenging if you have limited storage space or must carry the vacuum up and down stairs.

On the contrary, Shark AZ1002 is 16 pounds, which means it’s 2 pounds lighter. Even though this isn’t a major difference, it’s still very impressive because it’s boosted my swift swivel steering. ZU785, on the other hand, is quite hard to steer around sofas or corners of my kitchen.

Shark ZU785 Vs AZ1002: Similarities

Shark ZU785 and AZ1002 have many features in common, but 2 factors directly impact your recurrent experience. First, check out how their DuoClean brushrolls and cord hooks can make your cleaning days less dreadful!

DuoClean brushrolls

DuoClean brushrolls are a unique feature of Shark vacuums that are designed to improve the cleaning performance and efficiency of the vacuum. There are several benefits to the design:

Shark ZU785 boasts a dual rollers system that cleans and polishes
Shark ZU785 boasts a dual rollers system that cleans and polishes
  1. Increased cleaning power: DuoClean brushrolls utilize two brushrolls working together to provide a deep and thorough clean. One brushroll is designed for deep-cleaning carpets, while the other is designed for picking up larger debris and fine dust from hard floors.
  2. Improved performance on different surfaces: Due to its unique design, the DuoClean brushroll is highly effective on a variety of surfaces, including hardwood floors, carpets, and area rugs. It can effectively remove dirt, dust, and debris from all types of flooring and polish the floor at the same time.
  3. Prevents hair tangles: DuoClean brushrolls are designed to help prevent hair and pet fur from getting tangled in the brushroll, which can save time and reduce the need for frequent cleaning of the brushroll.

Overall, DuoClean brushrolls are a highly beneficial feature of Shark vacuums, offering improved cleaning power, versatility, and maneuverability to make cleaning your home more efficient and effective.

Cord hooks for easy storing

Vacuum cleaners with cord hooks are a convenient and useful feature for those who prefer corded vacuums. Cord hooks allow you to securely store the power cord of your vacuum cleaner, keeping it organized and tangle-free. And though these vacuums don’t have auto-rewind power cords, I can still wrap the cords around the hooks up and down the wand.

The best part is that even when I wrap the cord tightly, I can still remove it quickly without having to unwrap it round by round. This is all thanks to the flippable hooks. You can flip the upper hook down, and this will automatically release the cord.
