Welcome to this comparison article of the Shark Vertex vs Vertex Pro! If you’re in the market for a high-performance vacuum cleaner, you’ve probably come across these two models from Shark. Both of these vacuums are designed to provide powerful suction and advanced features to make cleaning your home a breeze. But how do they compare? The truth is, they are extremely distinctive! And my final winner is Shark Vertex AZ2002.
The Shark Vertex is the better choice over the Vertex Pro due to its stronger suction, wider cleaning path, and zero worries about when the battery is going to run out. If you need a potent vacuum with all these benefits and more household-friendly, I heavily suggest Shark Vertex.
As for the Shark Vertex Pro, it’s a cordless vacuum in case you want a lightweight and convenient-to-store device. The model can deal with debris and pet hair to a certain level, but its suction is nowhere as good as that of Shark Vertex, and mine has clogged due to pet hair accumulation and weak suction at the hose.

Shark Vertex vs Vertex Pro: Differences
Shark Vertex wins 2-0 and ties twice against Vertex Pro. With its much more potent suction power, I already deem it the worthy winner! Check out all the reasons, though.
Cleaning performance
Winner: Shark Vertex
This is the most crucial detail when choosing a vacuum, so don’t skip it. After testing their cleaning performance and with my knowledge of the appliance in general, Shark Vertex clearly has better suction and cleaning ability. Corded! This device has a constant source of power to feed on. On the contrary, Vertex Pro’s strongest suction only lasts about 20 minutes in boost mode.
I notice that both work very well on every floor type, from hard floors to high-pile carpets. The reason is because of the PowerFins, which don’t employ the plastic bristles like traditional rollers. The fins don’t grip on carpets, making it easier to glide them over this material. And on sealed bare floors, the soft foam fin and the soft microfiber rollers don’t scratch the surface.
But, there is a disadvantage to the fin design: it doesn’t catch hair that well. Of course, I can still remove hair from all surfaces to a certain level, but they won’t remove all the strands from low-pile carpets in their strongest mode.
Regarding dust and debris, this is the easiest type of trash to deal with, so I don’t find it hectic to clean them. A few rollovers and they are nowhere to be seen.
Utilities
Tie
Both the Shark Vertex and Shark Vertex Pro vacuum cleaners come with a range of advanced features and utilities that enhance their performance and make cleaning tasks more efficient and convenient. Some of these shared utilities include:
- Anti-tangle Brushroll: Both models are equipped with Shark’s latest brushroll technology, designed to prevent hair from wrapping around the brushroll. This anti-tangle feature is especially beneficial for pet owners, as it reduces the need for frequent maintenance and ensures consistent cleaning performance. The brushroll design also helps to pick up more dirt and debris, providing a thorough cleaning across various floor types.
- Powered Lift-Away: The Powered Lift-Away feature is a unique utility in Shark vacuums that allows users to detach the canister from the main vacuum body easily with the brushroll still spinning, ensuring the vacuum maintains strong suction and cleaning performance.
- LED Headlights: Both Shark Vertex and Vertex Pro models have LED headlights on the nozzle, which help to illuminate dark areas and improve visibility during cleaning. These headlights make it easier to spot and clean dust, dirt, and debris in dimly lit spaces, like under furniture or in corners.
These utilities enhance the overall cleaning experience and efficiency for both the Shark Vertex and Shark Vertex Pro models. The anti-tangle brushroll, powered lift-away, and LED headlights are designed to make vacuuming tasks more convenient and effective, ensuring a thorough clean across a wide range of surfaces and in various situations.
Filter
Tie
These vacuums are designed with advanced technologies and features, including HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters. HEPA filters are designed to capture 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, which includes allergens, pet dander, pollen, and dust mites.
Both the Shark Vertex and Vertex Pro use the Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology, which is designed to prevent dirt and allergens from leaking back into the air. This technology ensures that the vacuumed particles are trapped inside the vacuum’s dustbin and not released into the air during or after vacuuming.
However, no vacuum cleaner is absolutely perfect. There might be some minor leakage or particles escaping in any vacuum cleaner, although the amount is typically negligible. That said, Shark’s Vertex and Vertex Pro vacuums are engineered to minimize the risk of dirt and allergen leakage, providing a cleaner and healthier environment for users.
To further reduce the risk of dirt and allergen leakage, it is essential to maintain your vacuum cleaner properly. This includes cleaning and replacing the HEPA filters recurrently every 3 or 6 months, depending on the use frequency, according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, and emptying the dustbin after each use.
Design and convenience
Winner: Shark Vertex
Depending on your specific needs and preferences, you may find the Shark Vertex’s corded design more suitable than the cordless design of the Shark Vertex Pro. Here are some reasons why the Shark Vertex’s corded design might be considered better for certain users:
- Continuous power: Corded vacuum cleaners like the Shark Vertex provide consistent power as they are directly connected to an electrical outlet. This means that the suction power remains steady throughout the cleaning process. In contrast, cordless vacuums like the Shark Vertex Pro depend on battery life, which may diminish over time, leading to reduced performance before needing a recharge.
- No need for recharging: With a corded vacuum, there’s no need to worry about recharging the battery. You can use the vacuum cleaner for extended periods without interruption. On the other hand, Cordless vacuums have a limited runtime before they need to be recharged. With the Shark Vertex Pro, it takes 4 hours to fully charge the device for a maximum of 60-minute cleaning in ECO mode.
- Longer lifespan: Corded vacuums typically have longer lifespans than cordless vacuums, as they don’t rely on a battery that can degrade over time. This means that, in the long run, a corded vacuum like the Shark Vertex may be more durable and reliable.
