Today, we will help you choose the better model in the head-to-head fight between the Shark UV850 vs Dyson Ball Animal 3.
The Shark UV850 is a cheaper yet better vacuum than the Dyson Ball Animal 3. By putting your investment into this model, you will get a good suction and many utilities without spending an arm and a leg.
As for the Dyson Ball Animal 3, its suction is amazing, but that’s all I can praise about it. This machine is heavy and bulky, not to mention its somewhat overkill suction power, which makes pushing it on a carpet a daunting task. In addition, spending a relatively large amount of money without getting useful features like LED lights is difficult for many people to accept.
Shark UV850 vs Dyson Ball Animal 3: Differences
The Shark UV850 wins 2-0 and draws once against the Dyson Ball Animal 3. This result is unbelievable, as the UV850 is much cheaper than its competition!
Cleaning Performance
Winner: Shark UV850
It is no exaggeration to say that the Dyson Ball Animal 3 is one of the strongest suction uprights. Also, it’s advertised as “doesn’t lose suction,” and that’s 100% true, at least that is what I found. I was confident it picked up all, if not most, pet hair in my house. My carpet had nice carpet lines again, and my floor looked revived.
Too much suction sounds great, but it can also be a “con.” It may be too hard to move, and you even can barely move it if you are elderly or weak. Even if it does have a small slider on the floorhead that lets you switch between the three surface settings, pushing it on a thick carpet can be awkward.
It could also pick up the majority of hair and leave almost nothing on the roller after my test session, except for a small amount of long hair. That’s due to the hair removal system in its floorhead, which the predecessor Ball Animal 2 didn’t have.
The Shark UV850 also did a great job on my floor and carpet or any other surfaces I’ve used it on. Its suction didn’t seem overkill like the Dyson Ball Animal 3 and was adjustable, allowing me to move freely on a thick carpet.
What the Shark UV850 gives the Dyson Ball Animal 3 a run for its money is a DuoClean floorhead. This one consists of a soft roller and a PowerFins brush roll, enabling it to work well on both hard floors and carpets. Also, it didn’t struggle with large debris like fruit rings, thanks to this fabulous design. Also, its brush roll is self-cleaning. And guess what? After testing, very little hair ended up on this roller.
Design and Usability
Winner: Tie
Weight and Maneuverability
One thing that keeps many users away from the Dyson Ball Animal 3, no matter how strong its suction is, is that it is very heavy. Pushing it can require muscle strength and make you sweat. Unless you want to burn calories and see the exercise ring on your watch move a bit, you won’t want to struggle with this beast daily. The big-ball thing makes it easy for the machine to deal with corners but makes it impossible to get under stuff, meaning you constantly need to use the hand-held hose.
The NV501, on the other hand, is easy to move since it is on the lightweight side. The swivel head also makes it easier to get in and out of corners and tight spaces or maneuver around furniture. But you may initially find it challenging to vacuum in a straight line, and it takes some time to get used to it.
Cord Length
The power cords of the Shark UV850 vs Dyson Ball Animal 3 are nice and long, and the second one’s cord is 5 feet longer than that of the other. I can totally reach any awkward nook in my house with these cords without switching between outlets or even with the help of an extension cord. The only minor thing is that these models don’t have automatic cord retraction. But I wouldn’t call it a minus.
Filter
Winner: Tie
The Dyson Ball Animal 3’s filtration system is incredible. It includes a cyclonic filter and a HEPA filter. Together, they can separate any fine dust and dirt particles from the airflow, making sure your indoor air stays fresh and dirt-free.
The Shark UV850, on the other hand, is equipped with two pre-motor filters and a HEPA filter. Combined with the anti-allergen complete seal technology, this machine can trap up to 99.97% of dirt and allergens.
I found these two systems to perform equally well, providing a cleaner and healthier environment for my home.
Special Features
Winner: Shark UV850
Alternate Configuration
The Lift-Away feature, which is one of Shark’s trademarks, allows you to turn the UV850 into a portable unit. As a result, you can easily clean stairs, above-ground areas, and hard-to-reach spaces. But you must hold its pod with one hand since it is prone to falling if you leave it on the floor.
As for the Dyson Ball Animal 3, the only way you can reach tight areas is to leave it completely upright and work with its wand.
LED lights
There are some LED bulbs on the NV501’s nozzle, which make vacuuming in dark spaces easier. Sadly, an expensive model like the Dyson Ball Animal 3 lacks this must-have feature.
