Don’t miss my review for the debate of Shark UV700 vs AZ1002! The former isn’t very easy to find, so it took me a while to come up with this review. But after their cleaning performances and designs on the scale, Shark AZ1002 still has my whole support as the true final winner!

The Shark AZ1002 is the winner because it has a motorized pet brush that enables users to clean around a sofa or a stairway in a handheld mode without dragging the full motor and waste bin around the home. For every kind of debris, the cleaning performance is also strongly recommended. I tested it against cereals, snacks, and even mountains of dust, and none of them could stop the progress of the Shark AZ1002!

Shark UV700‘s biggest benefits are its affordable price, LED headlights, and HEPA filter. These are some quality advantages that not all vacuums have. The model also is more lightweight than models of the same kind (upright vacuums). However, its cleaning performance is nowhere as good as Shark AZ1002.

Shark UV700 vs AZ1002: Differences

Shark AZ1002 wins 3-0 and ties twice against UV700. Even from the most basic aspect of the vacuum, which is the cleaning performance, it is better than its opponent. It also boasts a powered lift-away to push a high suction power with motorized rollers for impeccable cleaning. I will get into the details below!

Cleaning performance

Winner: Shark AZ1002

Debris and dust

Debris and dust are the easiest tasks for a vacuum, arguably. And when I test Shark UV700 and AZ1002 against this type of trash, they do almost equally well. I tried them against small and larger piles to see how much debris they left on the floor or carpet after one swipe. And I must say, they clean very well against low-pile carpets, slightly better than against bare floors. The suction is very strong, judging from the patterns they create on the rugs/ carpets.

I want to comment on how AZ1002 cleans better on the edge of the cleaning path. It seems to suck in more dust particles in areas around the floor nozzle despite sharing the same 11-inch path width. As a result, I only need to push the vacuums over the same area once and twice to eliminate any dust piles. Seeing how the dirt bin fills up with every push is very satisfying.

But bear in mind that these models aren’t self-propelled, paired with great suction. So, they aren’t for users with mobility issues or elders. But they aren’t too heavy to work with, either.

Pet hair

Shark AZ1002 does better against pet hair, even though it uses the same DuoClean brushrolls as UV700. Shark AZ1002 wins thanks to its powered lift-away function, which helps a lot when it comes to cleaning under furniture or the staircase, with users not having to sacrifice the powerful suction.

Detach the floor nozzle from the pod and use it as if it’s any portable nozzle/accessory for cleaning higher areas. The powered lift-away will make sure that the brushrolls keep spinning, allowing users to suck in long pet hair and dirt with ease.

And, since it comes with a dedicated pet brush with bristles, it’s easier to break down the patches and vacuum hair in smaller piles. UV700 doesn’t have that.

One thing I notice about UV700 is its tendency to push the hair around when cleaning a bare floor, which is not unusual for vacuums without the brushrolls shut-off feature. It can be fixed by adjusting the suction power higher and setting the mode for hard floors. In this regard, AZ1002 has more advantages as well since it comes with 3 settings for bare floors, low-pile carpets, and high-pile carpets. UV700 only has 2 modes for hard floors and general carpets.

Utilities

Tie

Some convenient additional features that users can enjoy with this pair of vacuums are:

  • LED headlights
  • Self-cleaning brushrolls
  • Detachable hose to clean curtains or shelves
  • Dirt bin with 2 ways of ejecting content
  • Hooks to wrap the cord for storing that also release the cord easily
  • 30ft cord

Filter and dirt bin

Tie

The pair uses the same HEPA filter to trap dust and allergens to avoid harming users. Based on the ASTM F1977 test, the HEPA filters can capture over 99.9% of dust and allergens down to 0.3 microns, according to research. From my personal experience, the vacuums stay true to the theory of their design. I have never seen them ejecting dust through the exhaust port, nor have I had consecutive sneezing sessions when cleaning with these appliances.

Design

Winner: Shark AZ1002

Shark AZ1002 wins because its assembly is much more secure than UV700. In addition, a sturdy appliance tends to last longer than a flimsy one. And since vacuuming is a manual task that requires a lot of effort and puts some strain on the wrists, it’s best to use a model that doesn’t require constant adjustment and is more lightweight. Even though Shark AZ1002 is slightly heavier, it definitely doesn’t fumble around with smooth swivel steering!

Price and value – target buyers

Winner: Shark AZ1002

It’s fair to say that each appliance coddles a different group of buyers, affordable or expensive. So, each has its own purpose. But judging from how inconsistent UV700 is with its cleaning power, its small price tag isn’t worth it. Of course, its adjustable suction and LED headlights are some impressive features that not all vacuums of its price have. But I don’t find the trade fair.

So, needless to say, I appreciate the price and value of Shark AZ1002 so much more. Even its assembly is secure, and its suction power is consistently splendid. It does great against pet hair, which UV700 hasn’t proven to be on the same level. And the powered lift-away is undoubtedly an impressive feature for impeccable cleaning. If you are ready to invest in a good vacuum, consider this model is worth the money.

In case you are thinking of more affordable choices for the AZ1002, I recommend checking out the Shark NV501, Shark AZ1501, and Shark UV850.
