Shark is a well-known brand that has been making quality vacuum cleaners for years. In this buyer’s guide, I’ll compare their Shark UV480 vs UV580 models to help you have a satisfactory buying decision.
The Shark UV580 is the winner in this comparison, boasting some impressive features that make it stand out from the UV480. One of its most notable features is its DuoClean technology, which allows it to pick up different types of dust or debris effectively. Additionally, it is lightweight and can control easily by following the LED interface.
While the Shark UV480 is not the winner in this comparison, it still offers some impressive features that make it a worthy contender. It has an adequate dirt cup capacity for reducing the disposing time. However, it may not have as many tools as some other vacuums on the market.

Shark UV480 Vs UV580: Differences
After testing two different models, I have determined that Shark UV580 is superior to Shark UV480 due to its utility and efficient pickup. Therefore, the score was 3-0 in favor of Shark UV580.
Cleaning performance
The winner: Shark UV850
As a pet owner, I know the importance of having a reliable vacuum cleaner to keep my home clean and free of fur and debris. That’s why I decided to try out two models from Shark – the UV480 and UV580 in different tests.
Let’s start with the Shark UV480. While the suction power is adequate, it’s not exactly great. It does an okay job when used on the carpeting near my doors, but I feel it’s only removing surface dirt. The DuoClean technology did perform well at collecting rice on both low and medium-pile carpets, but it sometimes left behind residual dust on the low-pile carpet. The cordless sticks worked well on my hard surface floors but were ineffective on my rugs.
Pet hair cleaning was a different story altogether. The rollers broke almost right away, and while they spun, they didn’t pick up much, especially dog hair. It gets clogged in the tubes, and I have to clean it out whenever it loses suction noise. The rollers keep coming off, especially the front orange one that is supposed to pick up dog hair.
Let’s turn our attention to the Shark UV580. As someone with a cat, I was pleased to see that this vacuum not only easily picks up cat hair but also cat litter and cat food. Usually, it only takes 1-2 passes over the area to get everything cleaned up. However, the UV580 works like a dream regarding hardwood floors. The suction power is impressive, and it picks up all the dust and hair my pets leave behind. It also works well on carpets, which is a huge plus.
Design and convenience
The winner: Shark UV580
Dirt bin capacity
While both models can provide an efficient cleaning experience, I was surprised to learn that there is a noticeable difference between them regarding their dust cup capacity.
The Shark UV480 boasts a dry quarts capacity of 0.42, which is quite impressive. However, the Shark UV580 falls short with only 0.32 quarts of capacity. This disparity may not seem significant, but it can make all the difference for those prioritizing time and efficiency.
Nobody wants to halt their cleaning to empty out the dust cup repeatedly. With the Shark UV480, you can go longer without pausing and emptying it out, giving you more time to focus on the task. On the other hand, if you opt for the Shark UV580, you might need to stop more often to clean the dust cup, which can be inconvenient and interrupt your cleaning progress.
Weight
While the Shark UV480 weighs a hefty 12.8 pounds, the Shark UV580 is incredibly lightweight at 3 pounds.
Now, when it comes to choosing a vacuum cleaner, weight may not be the most crucial factor for everyone. However, for those who have trouble carrying heavy objects or need a vacuum that is easy to maneuver around tight spaces, the Shark UV580 would be the ideal choice. Its lightness means you won’t have to strain your arms or back while cleaning, and it can easily be carried up and down the stairs without much effort.
On the other hand, the Shark UV480’s weight, especially in the top position, may not be suitable for everyone. If you have a big house or multiple floors, lugging around a heavy vacuum can be a real pain.
Maneuverability
As far as maneuverability is concerned, I feel the Shark UV480 vacuum cleaner falls short. Despite the dust canister being placed up high, which should be convenient, the weight distribution is off-balance, causing strain on my shoulder after just 10 minutes of use.
The swivel floor tool is also difficult to control, adding to the frustration. It’s too chubby and top-heavy to reach end tables easily, and the overall design could use some improvement.
In contrast, the Shark UV580 model excels in maneuverability. It’s incredibly elegant and can easily navigate around walls and furniture without much effort. This vacuum allows me to zip around an entire room without moving any furniture and even goes under almost everything. The ease of use is remarkable and has made cleaning much more enjoyable.
Utility
The winner: Shark UV580
One thing that immediately caught my attention about the Shark UV480 is its handle. It’s equipped with buttons that allow you to control the vacuum’s functions easily. No need to fumble around trying to find the right setting! However, the UV480 comes with a combination crevice tool/dusting brush, perfect for reaching those tough spots in your home. It can be a limit compared to its rival.
Conversely, the Shark UV580 is an excellent choice for those who appreciate high-tech features. This vacuum has an LED user interface, making it easy to see and adjust the settings. The interface is particularly helpful because it provides real-time updates on the vacuum’s status. It also comes with a combination crevice tool/dusting brush and an upholstery tool for furniture and mattresses. These tools are essential for keeping your home clean and tidy.
