Shark SV1110 vs SV1106: The Tug of War Between Two Shark Cordless Vacuums

Shark SV1110 vs SV1106: They are a lightweight alternative to bulky upright vacuums for cleaning some types of surfaces. And we have a tie here!

Overall, for the price, the Shark SV1106 is a good buy. Its battery life is not very long, so it is great for those with one-bedroom apartments, and I don’t recommend it for anything larger than that. If you need something for typical cleaning purposes, except pet hair removal, this machine will also do the job just fine.

The Shark SV1110 is also the cool choice for those who are looking for a cordless vacuum that is affordable and not trying to do the most. If you want to pick up random hair, leaves tracked in on shoes, or other random things that fell on the floor, the machine will also be up to par.  Again, the battery life could be better.

Shark SV1110 vs SV1106: Differences

No one wins this match, or in other words, both win. Both have similar cleaning performance, but the SV1106 is lighter, resulting in easier maneuvering, while the SV1110 has a longer battery life.

Cleaning Performance

Winner: Tie

My testing showed that the Shark SV1110 worked best on floors and flat rugs but not on shag. It picked up a decent amount of debris and hair (but not as much as a corded vacuum). Most of the vacuumed hair bypassed the brush roller and went straight into the dirt bin. For the small amount of hair caught in the roller, it was a breeze to cut and pull it out using scissors.

However, the SV1110’s wheels constantly got stuck with my pet’s fur and got clogged frequently, which left a sour taste in my mouth. It was easy to remove tangled hair from the roller, but the same didn’t go for its wheels. So if you are looking for a vacuum for an excessive amount of pet hair, this one isn’t your best bet.

The Shark SV1106 also picked up pet hair and debris well on my floors and low carpets, but it definitely isn’t a deep cleaning machine and isn’t a perfect replacement for a corded one. Its suction wasn’t as powerful to capture everything, and I know I shouldn’t have high expectations for such a cheap cordless vacuum. So if you want to deep clean your entire house, just bust out a corded vacuum that typically generates more potent suction and is better for that task.

The SV1106 wasn’t also ideal for hair removal. You will have to take the unit apart and unclog it so much that you end up with a messier floor than before you started. Such a waste of time!

Weight and Maneuverability

Winner: Shark SV1106

The weight of Shark SV1110 vs SV1106 is 9.28 pounds and 7.5 pounds, respectively. I could easily carry these machines up and down stairs, and I believe they are suitable for littles and anyone with strength issues. Combined with the cordless feature, these two machines offer great portability. They allow me to reach all areas of my house without trying to find a plug.

I’m also glad their dust cups are in the middle instead of on top, like many others. If you have arthritis in your hands, the weight of the dust container at the top may hurt your hands, and these machines don’t.

Where maneuverability is concerned, the swivel is helpful, but it can be awkward and embarrassing at first. Just take the time to get used to this feature, and you will see how useful it is in helping to get in and out of tight areas.

Battery Life and Charging Time

Winner: Shark SV1110

The Shark SV1106 can run continuously for 15 minutes at the bare floor setting and 17 minutes at the carpet setting. The time period required to charge fully is about 4 hours. So it is only suitable for small tasks in lieu of cleaning your whole house.

As for the SV1110, its maximum running time ranges from 20 to 25 minutes, depending on the setting you use, which may be long enough to clean an entire small house. It also takes 4 to 5 hours to charge fully.

Shark SV1110 vs SV1106: Similarities

Dust Cup Capacity and Filters

Shark SV1110 vs SV1106 share a decent capacity dust cup at about 0.6 quarts. These dust chambers aren’t very big, so I had to empty them fairly often. They are extremely easy to remove, dump the crumbs, and snap back in.

They don’t come with a HEPA filter, which disappointed me slightly. The filter is washable, and you should rinse it every month or every two months, depending on how often you use the vacuum. The filter takes about 5 hours to dry in the summer. Once it is completely dry, you can put it back in the unit.

Control

Shark SV1110 vs SV1106’s two surface-type settings

There is a button on the floorhead of both that allows you to switch between two surface type settings: one for hard floors and one for carpet. You can switch between these settings with a touch of your foot.

The first setting, when turning the machine on, is for carpets/rugs (fast-turning roller mode). After switching the vacuum on, the roller will turn very fast. So I had to lift the machine slightly in the air and press the button twice before letting it touch my floor. It seems many users buy these vacuums mainly for their hardwood floors first and their carpets second. I think it would make more sense to have the first touch be the slow brush setting for floors and the second touch be the fast roller mode for carpets.
