Continuing the comparison series to evaluate which is the most advanced Shark upright vacuum cleaner, our today’s pair is Shark NV752 vs ZU782. To summarize, the winner this time is the ZU782.

In my opinion, Shark ZU782 is worth the money you spend. It has excellent vacuuming ability on most surfaces without much struggle. It works well with human and pet hair without getting tangled. It possesses many outstanding technologies, such as DouClean, Anti-Allergen Complete Seal, and a self-cleaning brushroll.

The runner-up, Shark NV752, is also a serious opponent. It handles fine and small debris really well, is not too loud, and has smart design details. To me, its price is reasonable and worthy of what it represents.

Shark NV752 vs ZU782: Differences

After comparing the differences between these two vacuums, I conclude Shark ZU782 wins 2:1 and ties 1 against Shark NV752 thanks to its powerful suction, smart design, and advanced technologies. For more details, please read the analysis below.

Cleaning performance

The winner: Shark ZU782

Compatible floor types

Shark ZU782 is great for both hard surfaces and carpets. I tested its ability to pick up baking soda, chili flakes, kitty litter, rice, and cereal on both hardwood floors and low-pile carpets, and it did an excellent job. It works well even on high-pile carpets. These are largely thanks to the DouClean technology, which employs a dual brushroll system.

This system includes a soft brush and a bristle brush. These brush rolls work together for greater performance in deep carpet cleaning as well as gentle cleaning on hard floor surfaces. Therefore, this design can not only take on large, small, and fine particles but also pick up pet hair very well with no tangling.

Meanwhile, Shark NV752 only has a standard traditional brush roll with stiff bristles. It still works well with fine and small debris but quite struggles to pick up large debris. Also, it is difficult to roll it on long-pile and shag carpets.

Pet hair performance

As I mentioned above, Shark ZU782 picks up pet hair better than Shark NV752, and this is largely due to the superior cleaner head construction of the ZU782. Besides DouClean technology, the ZU782 is also equipped with Zero-M anti-hair wrap technology. It is considered extremely useful to clean human and pet hair. This anti-tangle technology ensures that the brush rolls stay clean. In this way, you don’t have to stop and remove tangled hair from your brush.

In addition, the ZU782 has a brush roll indicator that lets you know when there’s a challenge. Green is a good sign while red indicates congestion.

Suction Strength

Like many Sharks out there, you can fully expect the suction power of these two vacuums. They have strong enough suction to dislodge a variety of dirt such as dust, pet hair, pet dander, food crumbs, and more.

I rate the suction strength of both machines to be equivalent. The NV752 has airflow at the hose is 99 CFM and the cleaner head is 58 CFM. Compared to other vacuum cleaners that I have experienced, this suction power is quite good. With the ZU782, it has the airflow at the cleaner head is stronger while the suction at the hose is smaller than its opponent. Both machines allow you to control the suction power depending on the task at hand.

Dirt bin and filtration

Tie

Dirt tank

Both machines have the same structure and dust cup capacity. The dust cup is transparent and has a full indicator, so you can easily see the dirt inside. Their capacity is large enough that you don’t have to empty them too frequently. Besides, they are also designed to be disassembled easily with a slide of the button, and the open layout makes them easier to clean.

Filtration

Both machines share the same filtration system, which uses Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology to trap all pollutants. This system has one post-motor filter and two pre-motor filters. All these filters are rinsed with cold water, and let dry for at least 24 hours before you use them again.

The post-motor one is a HEPA filter. It is located on the front of the vacuum cleaner, just above the cleaner head. This filter can capture 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns in diameter, such as dust, pollen, bacteria, etc. This filter increases the efficiency of the unit’s air filtration, making it great for allergy sufferers or those who don’t want to smell what they’re trying to vacuum.

Take away the dirt compartment and below it is the pre-motor filter. The pre-motor filter traps small dust particles before they can accumulate on the motor surface, extending the life of the vacuum cleaner motor. There are two pre-motor filters, one is a foam filter, and the other is a felt filter.

Design and convenience

The winner: Shark ZU782

Maneuverability

Both machines are quite easy to maneuver.

They have the same size and are relatively compact, which makes it convenient to store them wherever you want.

Although they are quite heavy, especially the ZU782 which weighs 17.7 pounds, the lift-away function makes them lighter in just a moment. This feature allows you to use the machine as a handheld vacuum for more versatility. You can hold the lift-away pod with one hand while using the cleaner head/hose/wand/tools with the other hand. This lift-way mode is one of the best ways to clean stairs.

In addition, these units employ an advanced swivel steering system with a decent turning radius to help you move around tables, chairs, and other furniture more easily. It may take some time for you to get used to this feature at first, but in the long run, I find it really useful.

In terms of range, these machines have a nearly 30-foot power cord, long enough for you to clean a large room without changing outlets. The hose of the ZU782 is also quite long, 8.4 feet, giving you a respectable cleaning reach. Meanwhile, the one on the NV752 is only about 6 feet long, which is relatively short, so sometimes you may find yourself running out of reach.

Build quality

These machines have pretty good build quality. Although most of the parts are made of plastic, they are still very sturdy, you can completely feel it when holding them by hand.

At first glance, they have similar body styles, but in reality, there are many differences in design. The biggest difference is the design of the cleaner head, which I have mentioned many times above. Besides, their adjustment buttons are also designed slightly differently.

All the controls on the NV752 are concentrated in the handle, which is very convenient, so you don’t have to bend over when you want to change the suction mode. There’s also a small LED light on its handle, which no matter what attachment you use, will always help you light up the path. In addition, it also has headlights in the cleaner head.

Meanwhile, the ZU782 has a slightly different design. It has a suction control switch on the handle while the power switch and the button to change between the hard floor and carpet mode are on top of the canister. The machine only has headlights, not LED lights on the handle. In return, it has a brush roll indicator light, which I also mentioned earlier.

Additional Features

The winner: Shark NV752

Although both have lift-away features, the manufacturer still creates a difference between them.

In fact, Shark has a lot of upright vacuum cleaners with the lift-away function but it is worth mentioning that there are two types of “lift-away” that you need to distinguish, powered and non-powered. In this case, Shark ZU782 is non-powered and Shark NV752 is powered.

Powered lift away is that there is power at the end of the handle, so if you have a motorized tool, it will run. While non-powered lift away does not. Thus, you can only use the power tools with a powered lift-away vacuum.
