The Shark NV501 vs NV751: The second one is more expensive, but is it better? Fortunately, the short answer is yes.
The Shark NV751 is incredibly powerful and one of the best upright vacuums available at the mid-range price point. Its pros far outweigh its cons, making it a worth-buying model.
The Shark NV501 is also formidable, with many nifty features. Looking at its performance-to-price ratio, I affirm that it’s worth every penny I spend on it.

Shark NV501 vs NV751: Differences
Design
Winner: Shark NV501
Both the Shark NV501 vs NV751 are upright vacuums with lift-away functionality. Bagless and corded electricity are two other characteristics they have in common.
Regarding the outer construction, both Shark NV501 vs NV751 are crafted mainly from durable plastic material with utility and style in mind. However, they aren’t flimsy and cheap despite their mostly plastic construction.
Color is the one thing that sets them apart when it comes to design. The NV501 comes in four colors: red, purple, blue, and green. Meanwhile, the NV751 is only lavender in color.
That said, the first one offers a wider selection of colors, which makes it the winner of this category.
Clean Performance
Winner: Shark NV751
On my hardwood floor, the NV501 did a great job, although it struggled a bit with the larger debris types. My tests were done with the standard cleaning heads, and you could choose to use the hose or an attachment to pick up large debris more easily.
On low-pile carpets, the NV501 cleaned up almost all debris but also had some trouble with ultrafine debris, like sugar, and I had to make an extra pass to clean fine debris fully.
Finally, I wouldn’t describe the NV501 as amazing on high-pile carpets since it leaves behind a lot of debris. But, given the price point, I think its cleaning performance is still acceptable.
The incredible suction and airflow of the NV751 make it a very effective hard floor vacuum cleaner for most tasks like pet hair, fine debris, and small debris. Its height is limited, so it can’t capture extra large debris, but you can always use its wand or hard floor hero tool to get the job done.
The NV751 worked better on low-to-hight-pile carpets. But since this model doesn’t have a height adjustment, I wouldn’t suggest it if you have a long pile or shag carpets.
Dust Cup
Winner: Shark NV751
The NV751 has a 1.5-quart dust cup, while the cup of the NV501 only holds a maximum of 0.88 quarts of dirt. So if you live in a large house and want to minimize the frequency of emptying your vacuum, just go for the NV751.
Emptying these dust tanks is easy. There is a button on the bottom to open them, and the dirt will fall straight into the bin without touching it with your hand. You can also open the cups at the top to clean them.

Winner: Shark NV751
Alternative Configurations
Both Shark NV501 vs NV751 are described as 3-in-1 vacuum cleaners, but I’d like to tell you that the NV751 can be used in four different configurations. So the NV751 is actually a 4-in-1 model.
Let’s start with the NV501 first. Apart from the default upright configuration, it can be used as a semi-handheld vacuum thanks to the Lift-Away feature, one of Shark’s hallmarks. Alternatively, you can place its canister on a caddy after removing it from the floorhead, turning it into a canister vacuum.
As for the NV751, it can be used in three configurations like the NV501, but the thing that sets it apart from its competitor is its powered lift-away feature. This feature basically keeps its brush roll spinning after its canister is lifted, turning it into a stick vacuum cleaner. This configuration is ideal for cleaning under furniture such as tables and couches.
It’s worth noticing that the caddy is not included in the purchase whether you choose one or the other. You’ll need to spend a few extra bucks to buy this part separately, but it is worth it! In addition to the use mentioned above, the caddy can hold all your favorite attachments to ensure they are available at all times.
LED Headlights
Both the Shark NV501 vs NV751 have some LED bulbs in front of their nozzles to help you easily spot hidden dust and dirt in dark areas. But the NV751 also has LED lights on the wand, which are perfect for above-floor cleaning and great for detecting cobwebs in those bothersome corners.
Fingertip Controls
We all know that cleaning rugs or carpets and hard floors is not the same. That way, you can vacuum over different surfaces seamlessly. The Shark NV751 has an easy-to-slide button on its handle that allows you to switch between three modes: hard floor, low-pile carpet, and thick carpet.
As for the Shark NV501, the only thing you can do to transfer from carpets to hard floors is to turn the brush roll off by bending and pushing a button, which can be inconvenient for those with back pain.
Shark NV501 vs NV751: Similarities
HEPA Filtration
Both the Shark NV501 vs NV751, like many of their siblings, are ideal for people with asthma or allergies since they are also fitted with HEPA filtration and Anti-Allergen technology. Together, they can capture 99.9% of dirt and dust as small as 0.3 microns and ensure they remain trapped inside the unit.
Portability
The Shark NV501 weighs about 15.5 pounds, while the Shark NV751 is 15.4 pounds. So not much of a difference there, right? Both vacuums are equally light for me (or heavy for some others). I could lug them from room to room easily, and carrying them up and down the stairs was also an essay chore.
Regarding maneuvering, the swivel steering system is available in both units, making movability easier. So it is a breeze to vacuum around your furniture with fewer forward and backward movements and without bumping into furniture.
Cord length also plays a crucial role in portability. The Shark NV501 vs NV751 share a 30-foot power cord, which is long enough to reach corners and difficult areas conveniently.
