As a home cleaning and maintenance professor, I have had the opportunity to test and evaluate various vacuums over the years. In this article, I will compare two popular models: the Shark NV360 vs UV850. Both of these vacuums have received strong reviews and have a loyal following, but they also have some key differences that make them better suited for different types of users.
The Shark NV360 is a powerful and versatile vacuum cleaner that handles various cleaning tasks. It features a powerful motor and advanced suction technology that effectively picks up dirt, dust, and debris from different surfaces. It’s also equipped with a HEPA filter that traps 99.9% of dust and allergens, making it an ideal choice for those with allergies or sensitivities.
The Shark UV850 is a runner-up vacuum cleaner with many helpful features. It has powerful suction technology and adjustable suction power, allowing users to choose the most effective setting for the job. The extended reach hose and wand make it easy to clean hard-to-reach areas. I found some limits that will be cleared out in this post.

Shark NV360 Vs UV850: Differences
In this competition, the NV360 wins against UV850 with a score of 3-0. It is mainly due to the good cleaning performance and the convenience that NV360 offers to the user.
Cleaning performance
The winner: Shark NV360
Suction power
I would choose the Shark NV360 as the winner in terms of suction power. Why do I say this? Let’s see. The Shark NV360 has 84 inches of water lift, slightly higher than the 80 inches of sealed suction offered by the Shark UV850. This additional suction can make a significant difference in the cleaning performance of the vacuum.
One of the main benefits of strong suction power is that it allows the vacuum to pick up dirt and debris from surfaces more. It can also be helpful for removing pet hair and other stuck-on particles. Vacuums with higher suction tend to do a better job of deep cleaning carpets and upholstery.
As a user, I have personally found that the Shark NV360 does a better job of removing dust from my carpets and furniture than other vacuums I have used in the past. This is likely due, at least in part, to its strong suction power.
Brush-roll system
The UV850 has a duo brush roll, which means it has two brush rolls – one with very small bristles in the middle and another with a soft roller. However, the nozzle design of the UV850 is not very effective and does not offer much benefit, and the soft roller seems to just act as a spinning roll. That’s why it may not achieve the same result as its rival.
On the other hand, the NV360 has only one brush roll with medium bristles. This brush roll effectively cleans carpets and hard floors and stops in hard floor mode to prevent scratching.
Compatible floor type
I have tested out both the Shark UV850 and the Shark NV360 on various floor types, including tile, linoleum, carpet, and wood. Overall, I conclude that the Shark NV360 performed better than the UV850 in terms of cleaning performance.
On tile and linoleum floors, both models did a decent job of picking up debris. However, the Shark NV360 seemed more efficient, picking up around 98% of debris on these surfaces. The UV850, on the other hand, left some small debris behind. Additionally, it was not great at cleaning edges and corners, while the NV360 excelled in this area.
Regarding carpet, the NV360 was very effective at picking up small and medium debris and had inconsistent results with large debris. When I use UV850, I realize that it has quite the same results as its competitor, but with more birt left behind.
The UV850 was not a good choice on wood floors as it sometimes scratches the surface due to its nozzle design, especially since the brush roll-on-off function can’t work properly. However, the NV360 was much gentler on wood, making it a better option for these types of floors.
Design & Convenience
The winner: Shark NV360
Noise level
In comparing the Shark UV850 and the Shark NV360, it seems that the UV850 is quieter. While I don’t have an exact decibel measurement for the UV850, I feel NV360 is a bit quieter, which has a noise level of 76 dB.
For me, the benefit of a quiet vacuum is twofold. Firstly, I can use it without disturbing others in my household or neighbors. This is particularly important if I need to vacuum during the day or when others are trying to sleep or concentrate. Secondly, a quieter vacuum is simply more pleasant to use and can make the task of vacuuming less of a chore.
Dimension & Weight
Now let’s turn to compare the dimensions and weight of two popular models: the UV850 and the NV360.
First, take a look at the dimensions. The UV850 is significantly larger, measuring 33.6 inches in length, 12.8 inches in width, and 9.3 inches in height. On the other hand, the NV360 is much smaller, measuring 13 inches in length, 14 inches in width, and 44.5 inches in height.
This difference in size is important to consider, as it may affect how easily the vacuums can be stored and transported. For example, the UV850, being larger, may take up more space in a closet or trunk, while the NV360 may be more convenient for those with limited storage space.
Next, let’s consider the weight of these two models. The UV850 weighs 19.36 pounds, while the NV360 weighs 13 pounds. This difference may not seem significant at first glance, but it can make a big difference in maneuverability. The NV360, being lighter, may be easier to carry up and down stairs or move from room to room.
Utility
The winner: Shark NV360
LED headlight
I believe that LED headlights provide multiple benefits to users. First, it offers superior energy efficiency compared to traditional incandescent bulbs, providing a brighter light while consuming less energy. It also lasts up to five times longer, which makes them much more cost-effective in the long run. In addition, LED headlights generate less heat, reducing the risk of overheating and creating a safer working environment.
In this round, Shark UV850 is superior to its competitor because the LED light is available on this model while the other is not.
Attachment
The attachments of these two models are quite different and have some small issues that need to be improved.
Now, start with the Shark UV850. One attachment that I found particularly frustrating to use was the dusting brush. While it is useful for dusting, the angle of the brush makes it difficult to reach high places, and the stiff bristles make it less effective at picking up dust.
In addition, the crevice tool, while useful, requires the cord to be unclipped before it can be used with the wand, which can be inconvenient. Finally, the wand has a large chunk, making it difficult to reach tight places and requiring the sharp edges to be cut to access areas such as under a bed.
On the other hand, the Shark NV360 has some attachments that I found to be much easier for users to use. The upholstery tool is good at cleaning furniture, and the crevice tool is also convenient and useful for reaching tight areas.
Storing
The Shark UV850 does not have enough onboard storage to hold all three of the included tools (dusting brush, crevice tool, and pet power brush). This means that users must choose which two tools they want to use and leave the third one behind. This can be inconvenient for those who want to use all three tools during their cleaning routine.
On the other side, the Shark NV360 has enough onboard storage to hold all its tools simultaneously. This makes it more convenient for users who want to have all the tools readily available during their cleaning.
