Shark has made a name for itself in the world of vacuum cleaners with its high-quality products, and the Shark NV352 vs UV540 has been sparking debates. While they share some similarities, like their ability to clean carpets and hard floors, these two vacuums also have unique features that set them apart from each other. So, if you’re torn between the NV352 and UV540, keep reading as we dive into a side-by-side comparison of these cut-price vacuums.

For me, Shark NV352 has proven to be a worthy winner. While it doesn’t have more distinctively advanced features than its opponent, it excels in operational stability when vacuuming any surface, from hard floors to carpeted areas. The swivel steering also is consistent and doesn’t seem to have its own mind, which makes it easier for me to haul it around. The model also employs a HEPA filter, a completely sealed system, and a brushroll shut-off feature!

While the Shark UV540 is a powerful vacuum cleaner with many advanced features, it has a few weaknesses that can make it less appealing for some users. One of its main weaknesses is that it is heavier and bulkier than some other Shark models, making it more difficult to maneuver around tight spaces and stairs. And it sometimes slips out of my control, swiveling in another direction when I push it forward!

Shark NV352 vs UV540: Differences

Shark NV352 wins 2-1 and ties once against Shark UV540. It wins due to its smooth maneuverability, great cleaning performance, and wider cleaning path for fewer pushes and pulls around the floor. I will reveal more details below!

Cleaning performance

Winner: Shark NV352

The Shark NV352 is a highly capable vacuum cleaner with impressive cleaning performance. Its powerful suction removes dirt, dust, and debris from carpets, hardwood floors, and other surfaces around your home. And, with a brushroll shut-off feature, you can decide whether to engage the roller to clean your floor.

But what makes it the winner is the 11.4-inch cleaning path width, which is quite big compared to its opponent, UV540’s 9.5 inches cleaning path. As we all know, a bigger cleaning path means more dust and debris get picked up simultaneously, resulting in fewer swipes and reducing the cleaning time effectively.

Additionally, the NV352 comes with a crevice and upholstery tool for targeted cleaning of different surfaces and types of debris. Overall, the Shark NV352 offers impressive cleaning performance and versatility, making it a popular choice for many households.

Regarding UV540, this model also has the great suction power to work against dust and debris. The bristles of the roller can remove and lift hair from carpets pretty easily as well. But the device can’t excel in this round since its cleaning path is smaller and doesn’t work great on bare floors.

HEPA filter

Tie

These vacuums feature a HEPA filter, which helps to capture allergens and other microscopic particles, making them a great choice for those with allergies or respiratory sensitivities.

HEPA filters are made of a dense mesh of fibers that trap airborne particles as they pass through the filter. This design allows them to capture a high percentage of particles, including many that are too small to be seen by the naked eye. In fact, HEPA filters can capture up to 99.97% of airborne particles, making them an effective tool for improving air quality and reducing the spread of allergens and other contaminants.

The HEPA filter is also an anti-allergens complete seal system, which traps the dust inside, not allowing anything bigger than 0.3 microns to escape via the exhaust port. This is the main reason why we can find so many new vacuums with this kind of technology. Avoiding decontamination of the air is a must with modern-day vacuums.

Utilities

Winner: Shark UV540

Despite can’t surpass NV352 in the cleaning aspect, UV540 still has the upper hand in the utility department! Having a long power cord is a major plus point for vacuums. That’s why I’m so impressed with UV540’s 35ft cord length! This is much longer than the general 25-30ft cord that I can find on most vacuums, which by coincidence, is NV350’s cord length as well (25ft).

With a longer cord, users can haul the vacuum around a large room filled with furniture without unplugging it so many times. It’s significantly more convenient, especially when you also have to clean the staircase. So, there is a trade-off here that you should consider when choosing between UV540 and NV352.

On another note, these vacuums come with adjustable cleaning modes to assist different floors, and I find it highly convenient. It’s possible to shut off the brushroll to clean hard floors better or switch to carpet mode for a potent cleaning session with an engaged roller.

Maneuverability

Winner: Shark NV352

The Shark NV352 is designed with great maneuverability in mind, thanks to its lightweight construction, swivel steering, and advanced brush roll technology. At only 12.5 pounds, the vacuum is relatively lightweight compared to other models, making it easy to carry and move around your home.

The swivel steering also allows for greater control and flexibility when cleaning around furniture and other obstacles, so you can easily navigate tight spaces and corners without the need for constant adjustments or lifting. I have tested it against bare floors and carpets, and even though there is obviously a difference, I don’t struggle on any surface.

On the opposite, UV540 has been giving my arms and back a harder time whenever I clean a bare floor section with it. It’s very weird because normally, I only have problems with carpeted areas when working with any vacuum. The problem with this one is that, even though it’s not self-propelled, its swivel steering seems to have a mind of its own. I can push it in one direction, and it may swivel to the left or right without my permission.

So, I don’t recommend this model for elders or users with mobility problems, even though for the general population, handling it shouldn’t be too complicated.
