Shark NV352 vs NV586: Which One Is Best For House Use?

Shark NV352 vs NV586: I don’t mind spending extra bucks on getting the second one, even though it’s considerably more expensive than the other.

If I could describe the Shark NV586 in two terms, they would be “powerful” and “easy to use.” It was powerful enough to suck up everything on my bare floor and carpet, and some LED lights on its floorhead kept the cleaning path illuminated. But it’s a bit heavy, and its cord is somewhat short.

The Shark NV352 is a bulky machine that lacks LED headlights, falls over all the time, and can’t reach under furniture, but it has good suction. I think this is a good value at just under $200.

Shark NV352 vs NV586: Differences

The NV586 beat the NV352 with a score of 3-1. The winner is heavier but still easy to lug around. It’s powerful enough to suck up anything on any surface but doesn’t overkill to make it hard to push. Plus, it has some LEDs, which the other doesn’t.

Cleaning Performance

Winner: Shark NV586

The suction of the NV586 is excellent, and this beast did well enough on my hard floor and excelled on my carpet. It took up all the debris and a good amount of hair I used for the test and left almost nothing behind.

On the downside, the NV586 tended to clog at its floorhead, and I had to clean the brush roll often. It’s not an odd thing since this model doesn’t have a self-cleaning roller. So if you’re a pet owner and your four-legged friends shed like crazy, look for something else. Also, this machine seemed hard to push on the thicker carpet, but you can reduce its suction to handle this.

The NV352 also has great pickup power with two settings for vacuuming, and both worked superbly. Its suction can also be adjusted so that it can be pushed on carpets easier and smoother.

But I had to keep the dust cup of the NV352 empty, or it would start spitting stuff back out of the cleaner head and kick off some larger debris instead of sucking them up. Also, because its brush roll doesn’t clean itself, a lot of tangled hair can accumulate on it over time. So the roller must be maintained often, or it will stop running one day.

Design and Weight

Winner: Shark NV352

Most Shark upright vacuums are bulky, and the Shark NV352 vs NV586 is no exception. Their dimensions are 45.5 x 11.4 x 15 inches and 46 x 12 x 13 inches, respectively. Their bulky size prevented them from going further under furniture, and I had to convert them to Lift Away configuration to get the job done with the hose and attachment.

The NV586 weighs about 15.6 pounds. It is neither particularly heavy nor light, but pushing it on the high-pile carpet may be part of the exercise routine for some people. In this case, you can reduce the suction, which will reduce cleaning performance; just remember that!

The NV352, on the other hand, weighs only 12.5 pounds. It is one of the lightest Shark uprights and seems much lighter than its bulky footprint. But I had trouble keeping it from tipping because of the awkward balance.

These machines share a swiveling head that allows them to maneuver around furniture and obstacles. Initially, you may feel a lot of pressure on your wrists, which may take some time to get used to. But believe me, once the dust has settled, you will find it much more helpful than the fixed-head vacuum cleaners.

Dust Cup Capacity

Winner: Shark NV586

Dust cup capacity is another factor differentiating the Shark NV352 vs NV586. The NV352  features a 1.1-quart dustbin, which is big enough that you don’t have to empty it during cleaning. But the NV586 is even better with its 3.3-quart dust tank, which is three times larger than its competition.

What these dust cups have in common is that they are easy to remove for emptying and are made of clear plastic, allowing you to know how full they are at a glance.

Utilities

Winner: Shark NV586

The NV586 has some LED bulbs on its floorhead, while the NV352 doesn’t. Many people have never thought headlights on a vacuum are necessary until they had to vacuum in places out of reach of ceiling lights. Those little bulbs help show the debris and hair that need to be captured, which is very helpful.

Shark NV352 vs NV586: Similarities

Type

The Shark NV352 vs NV586 are upright vacuums from Shark, which has a reputation for delivering high-quality yet user-friendly vacuums. Corded electric and bagless are two other things they have in common.

They are made of PP and ABS plastic, which give you a lightweight yet robust design. These models are easy to assemble and use, and the included manual covers all the needed instructions to help you maximize your vacuuming performance at home.

I wouldn’t say the machines are quiet, but it’s not too loud to disturb those around. I recommend avoiding using them early morning. But if you want to do so, it is essential to vacuum in a room enclosed by a fully or partially closed door.

Finally, they come with various accessories, allowing you to get any cleaning task done smoothly and efficiently. They also come with a storage bag that is used to store all the included accessories and keep them in one place:

Filters

Both vacuum cleaners share a combination of Foam and HEPA filters. Both vacuum cleaners share a combination of Foam and HEPA filters to capture up to 99.7% of dust and allergens in the air. These filters are washable and should be washed with lukewarm water from time to time to maintain strong suction.

Better yet, they have a sealed system, what Shark calls “anti-allergen complete seal technology,” to keep all dirt inside the unit and away from the air you breathe.

Cord

The Shark NV352 vs NV586 share a 25-foot power cord, and to my mind, it is long enough for you not to constantly search for outlets around your house when you are on duty. A good upright vacuum should have a cord length of at least 25 feet, and anything shorter can be a disappointment.

It’s worth noting that they don’t have automatic cord management, meaning you’ll have to warp their power cords manually. But it is easy to complete and should not be considered a minus.
