I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

For the comparison between Shark Navigator UV440 vs NV352, I see no significant difference, and their cleaning performances are comparable. So, a tie is my final decision for this competition.

The Shark Navigator NV352 is highly appreciated for its strong but adjustable suction coupled with the brush roll shutoff functionality. Thus, it can perform good carpet and bare-floor cleaning at an affordable price. Its dirt bin is easy to empty and has enough room to spare.

The Shark Navigator UV440 has all the mentioned features of the NV352. The difference is that it has a longer electric cord but is relatively heavier. It is not a lightweight vacuum, so maneuvering the vacuum back and forth may be troublesome to some people. Aside from that, it still performs decent cleaning results and is a good option.

Shark Navigator UV440 vs NV352: Differences

The difference between these two vacuums is not significant. Their most noticeable difference can be observed in their design. In terms of cleaning performance, they are equal. As cleaning efficiency is one of the imperative factors for assessing a vacuum, I will give a tie to the Shark Navigator UV440 vs NV352 comparison.

Cleaning performance

Tie!

Suction power and control

The suction of Shark NV352 and UV440 is very strong, in my experience. They can immediately pick up the hair and bread crumbs on floors without scattering them away. Moreover, pushing them over carpets, especially on thick piles, is difficult because their suction is too strong.

Luckily, they have the Suction Release collar to control the suction; thus, I can reduce the suction amount for delicate cleaning or make the vacuum easier to move.

Brush roll performance

The brush rollers of Shark NV352 and UV440 are quite identical. They are traditional bristle brush rolls. What I highly appreciate about these two models’ brush rolls is that they can be turned off and automatically shut off in the most upright position. Thus, I don’t have to worry about the brush roller keep spinning in one spot and chewing up my carpet while the hose is in use.

Besides, the possibility of turning off the brush rollers in the Bare/Hard Floor setting is very useful to reduce the scattering of debris. Thus, the risk of getting the delicate flooring damaged can be eliminated.

However, the drawback of their brush roll is the tangled hair. Their brush rollers are not designed with a self-cleaning feature, so the pet hair and human hair easily get wrapped around the brush. Therefore, such brush rolls require regular hair-cutting to be well function.

Floor-type compatibility

Both Shark UV440 and NV352 can be used on carpets and bare/hard floors. But the cleaning efficiency on carpets is relatively better than on bare floors. In general, their performance on hardwood floors is not excellent but decent, in my opinion.

On carpets, they perform well deep cleaning, sucking in all dirt and pet hair. As the brush roll bristles agitate the carpet fibers, embedded dirt can be loosened and easily picked up. However, with the too-strong suction, the soft fibers can also be pulled off when interacting with the brush roll. This could ruin the softness of long-fiber carpets. Thus, it is essential to adjust the suction power of the vacuum depending on your carpet type.

On bare floors, the debris scattering is still noticed though the brush roll is off. However, this phenomenon is insignificant. Such inconvenience does not bother me; I just need to do more passes to pick up all the debris. Besides, when picking long hair on hard floors, the hair is stuck on the rollers instead of going into the dirt bin unless the brush roll is on.

Design & Convenience

Tie!

Besides the strong suction, I was impressed with the cord length of Shark UV440. This model has a super long cord, 35 ft. Compared to the cord of Shark NV352, it is 10 ft. longer! Yet, the minor problem with such a long cord is that it often gets in the way while vacuuming.

Though the Shark NV352 has a shorter cord, the length is standard and still sufficient for cleaning small houses or apartments. Besides, according to the specifications, the NV352 is about 3 pounds lighter than the UV440. In my experience, the UV440 is not a lightweight machine and not particularly easy to maneuver as the Shark NV352, even though they all have good swivel heads.

Shark Navigator UV440 vs NV352: Similarities

The Shark UV440 and NV352 are similar in terms of the dirt cup, filtration, and lift-off canister. Specifically, they have the same dirt cup capacity of 1.1 quarts, which has enough room to spare if I regularly empty it.

For me, their filtration is one of the shining features. The HEPA filters, coupled with the Anti-Allergen Seal technology, are claimed to effectively collect and hold up to 99.99% of dust and allergens inside. Though I don’t really know how to verify this number, their filtration is actually awesome.

Back in the day, I cleaned my house with un-sealed HEPA-filtration vacuums, I sneezed multiple times in one cleaning, but when spending more to get the models with completely-sealed HEPA filtration, sneezing does not visit me frequently as before. So, Shark’s vacuums do a good job of reducing the amount of dust and allergens in the released air.

Both machines offer the Lift-Away feature, which allows you to detach the canister from the nozzle head. This functionality is wonderful as it provides a more flexible way of cleaning stairs and above surfaces.
