Hello, and welcome to my blog on vacuum cleaner reviews. As someone who values a clean and tidy living space, I understand the importance of having a reliable and efficient cleaning tool. That’s why I want to talk about two models of Shark vacuums: the Shark IZ862H vs IZ562H.
The Shark Stratos Cordless IZ862H is an innovative vacuum designed to make cleaning your home easier. Its flexible head and wand allow it to vacuum at 90-degree angles and under furniture without bending down, ensuring a thorough cleaning. The vacuum has strong suction power for carpets, hard floors, and furniture, meeting all your cleaning needs.
In comparison, the Shark IZ562H has a straight wand instead of the flexible one used in the IZ862H. It comes with an odor-neutralizing kit on the nozzle that guards against unpleasant odors from the debris picked up. However, this model lacks some features that are present in the IZ862H, which will be discussed in the following sections.

Shark IZ862H Vs IZ562H: Differences
After putting the Shark IZ862H and IZ562H stick vacuums to the test, the IZ862H emerged as the clear winner with a score of 2-0 and a tie thanks to its superior suction power, versatile cleaning modes, and longer battery life.
Cleaning performance
The winner: Shark IZ862H
Suction power
Well, as an experienced vacuum professor like myself, suction power and cleaning performance are always key factors I consider when evaluating vacuums. Based on your specifications, it seems the Shark IZ862H would outperform the IZ562H in that regard.
The IZ862H boasts 309 watts of suction power and 12.26 amps, which Shark claims provides “one of the most suction” of any Shark stick vacuum. With that kind of suction, the IZ862H can lift more dirt and debris from carpets and bare floors. It may even perform better on high-pile carpets where suction can become an issue.
More importantly, that is nearly double the power of the IZ562H at 181 watts and 8.38 amps, so it may require more passes to thoroughly clean carpets. The weaker suction is fine for quick spot cleaning-ups but may not be the best choice for busy households or large homes.
Brush roll system
The Shark IZ862H features Duoclean Powerfins Hairpro, a two brushroll system that does an impressive job of cleaning carpets and hard floors. This is important for me because my pets tend to leave clumps of hair around the house, but the dual brushes can pick it up effectively.
On the other hand, the Shark IZ562H has the Powerfins Plus nozzle, which combines the soft microfiber brush and PowerFins in a single nozzle. I think this is pretty innovative because it can handle both stuck-on dust and piles of large debris.
Also, the microfiber brush is great for hardwood floors because it’s gentle and won’t scratch the surface. Plus, this feature can dig deep into carpets, ensuring that dirt and dust are completely removed.
Compatible floor type
Let’s start with the Shark IZ862H. One thing I really like about this model is its ability to pick up sand on the carpet. Sand is a tough test for any vacuum because it’s heavy and doesn’t have much surface area, but the Shark IZ862H managed to pick up 100% of the sand in my tests. I also tried it on a medium shag carpet in my office, and while it wasn’t as powerful as some corded units, it still did a great job.
Moving on to the Shark IZ562H, this model works a little slower on carpet compared to the IZ862H, but it makes up for it with its sensor capabilities. The sensor helps you know when you need to do a spot multiple times to ensure you’ve gotten all the debris.
Just to be clear, the sensor doesn’t give you a precise measurement of what’s still left to clean up. Instead, it simply detects the amount of debris picked up during the last pass. So if the sensor has a high reading, you know to go over the spot a few more times to make sure it’s really clean.
Cleaning path
The Shark IZ562H has a slightly smaller cleaning path, measuring 10 inches, while the IZ862H has a wider cleaning path of 11 inches. This means the IZ862H covers more ground in less time, making it a great choice for larger spaces like living rooms. However, if you have smaller rooms or need to clean tight areas like corners, the IZ562H is more maneuverable and efficient with its narrower cleaning path.
The Shark IZ862H delivers a faster and more efficient cleaning experience, especially for large areas with open spaces. However, the Shark IZ562H’s smaller cleaning path should not be underestimated, as it can offer better precision and control when cleaning areas with obstacles.
Design & convenience
The winner: Shark IZ862H
Battery
Regarding battery performance, the Shark IZ862H outperforms the Shark IZ562H. The IZ862H boasts a run time of up to 60 minutes, while the IZ562H has a run time of up to 40 minutes. Essentially, with the IZ862H, you can cover more ground before recharging, which is especially helpful for large spaces needing a more thorough cleaning.
Moreover, the IZ862H’s Max mode can run for up to 15 minutes, while the IZ562H’s Max mode only lasts 10 minutes. Thanks to this feature, the IZ862H can tackle stubborn dirt and debris for longer periods without switching to a lower power mode.
It’s important to note that the IZ562H’s battery still offers a decent run time of up to 40 minutes. In my personal experience, the battery lasted me the entirety of my 25-30 minute cleaning session without losing suction power.
However, for individuals who need longer battery life or the extra power of a longer-lasting Max mode, the IZ862H would be the ideal choice, but remember it also comes at a higher price point.
Maneuverability
The MultiFLEX feature is a flexible wand that allows you to bend the vacuum at 90-degree angles and vacuum under beds and furniture without bending down. It also lets you fold the vacuum over itself for easy storage and freestanding. The Shark IZ862H has this feature, while the Shark IZ562H does not.
Its benefit is that it makes vacuuming more convenient and comfortable, especially if you have back or mobility problems. You can also vacuum blind in some cases, such as under a sofa or a table, and rely on the Clean Sense IQ technology to detect how much dirt is on the floor and adjust the suction power accordingly.
However, it may add some weight and complexity to the vacuum, making it feel cumbersome after using it for a while. It also requires some practice to maintain straight lines and maneuver around obstacles when the wand is bent. Don’t forget that an added feature means more money should be spent.
Shark IZ562H is lighter and simpler, which can make it easier to handle and carry around. It also allows the vacuum to stand upright on its own when in storage mode, which can save some space and hassle.
The drawback I realize is that it limits your reach and flexibility when vacuuming under furniture or in tight spaces. You must bend down or move things around to get a better view and access. You also miss out on the comfort of folding the vacuum over itself for storage or freestanding.
Utility
Tie!
The IZ862H comes equipped with a standard crevice tool as well as a dusting brush, while the IZ562H has a duster crevice tool and also includes a pet multi-tool.
The standard crevice tool on the IZ862H is a tried-and-true solution that works great for getting into small crevices and corners. It’s slim and flexible enough to maneuver tight spaces but still has enough suction to grab onto stuck-on dirt and debris. The dusting brush is also handy for quickly dusting surfaces before or after vacuuming.
The duster crevice tool and pet multi-tool on the IZ562H are a bit more specialized. The duster crevice tool is supposedly even more narrow and brush-like for dusting, though in my experience, the difference is pretty minimal. The pet multi-tool, though, that’s clever for cleaning up pet hair. That could be really useful if you’ve got a house full of fuzzy friends.
Shark IZ862H Vs IZ562H: Similarities
I know these two models from the Shark brand seem identical with just some different features, but these similarities have important roles when you decide which one will suit your preference best.
Odor neutralizer technology
One of the coolest things about these vacuums is the odor-neutralizer technology. It’s a really innovative system that has been developed using the latest engineering techniques, and it’s designed to eliminate pet odors from your carpets and floors.
The way it works is that the charcoal filter used in this system has been specially treated to trap even the smallest odor-causing particles, preventing them from escaping back into the air. And the antimicrobial brush roll is another key component designed to avoid any bacteria growth on the bristles.
So, what this means is that you can enjoy a fresh and clean home without any unpleasant smells or harmful bacteria.
Clean sense IQ
Clean Sense IQ technology is a unique feature exclusive to select Shark vacuum cleaner models such as the IZ862H and IZ562H. This technology leverages sensors to detect dirt and debris on your floors and automatically adjusts the suction power according to the detected dirt levels in real time.
By continuously monitoring the amount of dirt present on different surfaces without human intervention, Clean Sense IQ enables optimal cleaning performance while saving you valuable time and energy.
