Shark IZ462H Vs Dyson V11: Shark IZ462H Is Great But Dyson V11 Is Better

Shark IZ462H vs Dyson V11: The second one is significantly more expensive, but I’d say it’s worth it. Such is life, you get what you pay for!

When the Dyson V11 was released, it was labeled as “Dyson’s most intelligent, powerful cordless vacuum.” Although it has been dethroned by the V15 at the moment, it is still one of the models worth considering. Powerful suction, many accessories, a larger dust cup, and a smart LCD screen – there are so many things that make me fall in love with this model.

If you’re not ready to splurge on an exorbitantly expensive Dyson model, just consider the Shark IZ462H. It has Shark’s strongest punch – the DuoClean head with the self-cleaning roller. With this 2-in-1 floorhead, this model is certainly good enough for most surface types.

Shark IZ462H Vs Dyson V11: Differences

The Dyson V11 wins 3-0 and ties once against the Shark IZ462H. Overall, I have nothing to complain about the winner, except that it lacks LED headlights, and I only received one battery.

Cleaning Performance

Winner: Tie

Suction Power And Cleaning Head

At the highest power setting (boost mode), the Dyson V11 produces a peak suction of 185 Air Watts (AW), somewhere between the Dyson V15 and V12. As for the Shark IZ462H, I couldn’t find any information regarding its suction, but I also found it quite powerful and not far behind the Dyson V11.

The Dyson V11 (Torque Drive) has a High Torque cleaner head (including a bristle roller) designed to vacuum all types of surfaces effectively. This floorhead is also equipped with anti-tangle technology to prevent hair from wrapping around the roller, which reduces the vacuum’s performance. This V11 Torque Drive version omits the soft roller that comes only packed with the V11 Absolute version (unavailable in the US). The good news is that this roller can be purchased separately on Amazon.

The Shark IZ462H, on the other hand, includes a DuoClean head, which consists of a soft roller and a brush roll. The Duo Clean floorhead was one of Shark’s best technologies in recent years and changed how people looked at cleaning hard floors.

Looking at the image closely, you’ll see that some fins and bristles alternate with each other in rows. This PowerFins design, according to Shark, provides better agitation to pick up all deep-seated dust and dirt. Another pro of this PowerFins upgrade is the ability to resist hair wrap.

Hard Floor

On this type of surface, the Dyson V11 picked up everything except a trace of fine debris. To capture all the larger debris, I had to open the gates on the floorhead to maximum and waggle the vacuum a bit. I highly recommend spending extra bucks on the roller for better results.

On the flip side, the Shark IZ462H had a nearly flawless performance for all types of debris. It easily picked up all large debris, such as fruit loops, and threw a very small amount of fine debris forward.

Carpet

The Dyson V11 performed very well on my carpets. In less than five minutes, they were dirt-free and just as clean as when I first got them. The only con? In Boost mode, I felt like the vacuum grabbed onto my carpets, especially the thicker ones, making it harder to push. Then I switched to the “Auto” setting, and everything went well.

The Shark IZ462H also blew my mind with how well it performed on carpets. It performed well on large debris but was a bit less impressive for finer and smaller debris. It didn’t achieve top-tier scores, but it wasn’t bad at all, especially considering its price tag.

When the Shark IZ462H is not in use, its top portion can fold all the way down to reduce its vertical footprint, thanks to Multi-Flex technology, allowing it to stand upright on its own. Thanks to that, you can store this vacuum anywhere, as long as it doesn’t interfere with your movement. I wish it had a storage clip like the one on the V11, which allowed me to carry the two most used attachments.

The Dyson V11 includes a low-profile wall mount that can keep the vacuum vertical and out of reach of pets. It only has room for two attachments, and the vacuum can hold two itself, so I had to store the rest somewhere else. If you hate drilling holes in the wall or live in an apartment (where this action is a big no-no), you can just plug the charger directly into the battery or consider purchasing a floor stand separately (on Amazon), which provides a safe and organized storage spot for the vacuum and all accessories.

Weight and maneuverability

Weighing in at 6.7 lbs, the Dyson V11 isn’t the lightest model, but it’s light enough for me to push and carry around without any problem. Its rotating head provided an impressive range of motion, so I could comfortably move it back and forth and from side to side without putting much effort into it. I didn’t even need to contort my body to reach some hard-to-reach areas. I had to bend over my knees to get it further under some low areas, but it wasn’t a big deal for me (I’m a young and strong guy, lol!!).

The Shark IZ462H, on the other hand, weighs over 9 pounds and is one of the heaviest stick vacuums I’ve ever laid my hands on. Its heavy weight could be a big issue for the frail or elderly, so you should know your limits before making an order. Its steering head isn’t as sharp as the Dyson vacuum, but it’s flexible enough to turn on a dime with ease. The Multi-Flex feature helped me reach deep under my low-clearance tables as easily.

These machines can be transformed into portable vacuums by removing the top portion of the wand. In this handheld configuration, they weigh 4.5 pounds and are well-balanced, but my arm still got tired more than holding other units.

Battery Life

Shark IZ462HDyson V11
Max Battery Life≈ 43 mins≈ 76 min
Min Battery Life≈ 13 mins≈ 9 min
Charging Time≈ 3.2 hours≈ 4 hours

One of the biggest advantages of a cordless vacuum is that you don’t have to plug it into many different outlets during vacuuming. Still, the biggest chink in its armor is its battery life, which is typically short. It will be a nightmare if your vacuum runs out of juice before you get your cleaning task done. Fortunately, both the Shark IZ462H vs Dyson V11 use removable batteries, so you can swap out the batteries to make them run longer.

The Dyson V11 uses a click-in Lithium-Ion battery that can be charged either with or without the vacuum, and you can buy the spare one on the Dyson website or Amazon. In a similar vein, you can also easily buy an extra battery for the Shark IZ462H to double its running time.

Dust Cup & Filtration System

Winner: Dyson V11

The Shark IZ462H features a 0.32-liter dust cup. Emptying it is quite easy: just push a lever down to let all the dust and dirt go straight to the trash can underneath. This cup is quite small, so it needed to be emptied quite often, not to mention I  had to use my hands to remove clogged large debris and clumps of hair many times. It is removable and can be rinsed under cold water to remove all the built-up debris.

The Dyson V11’s dustbin is significantly larger, with a capacity of 0.75 liters. Emptying it is, to my mind, easier and more hygienic: Just remove the handheld unit from the wand/attachment, ensure the trash can covers the dust cup, and push a red lever down to send all the debris into the trash. In fact, I never had to put my hand in it to remove clumps of hair and debris.

Both the Shark IZ462H vs Dyson V11 passed my fog tests without any visible leaks, proving that they have sealed systems – No allergens or dust can escape before being captured by the filters.

The Shark IZ462H has two pre-motor filters (foam and felt filters) on top of the dust cup and one post-motor filter (HEPA grade). Both pre-motor filters should be washed at least once a month, whereas the post-motor HEPA filter can be rinsed less frequently (once a year is best).

As for the Dyson V11, it only has one HEPA filter, which snaps out at the back of the handheld part. The golden rule is to wash it once a month, but you should give it a clean whenever the LCD screen alerts you.

Utilities

Winner: Dyson V11

User Interface

The Dyson V11 sports a convenient LCD screen, which shows exactly how many minutes the vacuum is left running, shows the mode used, and provides the ins and outs of how to resolve blockages. There is a small circle button on the screen used to toggle between three cleaning modes: eco, auto, and boost.

I thought I was doing something wrong initially since the Dyson V11 would shut off if I let the pistol-like trigger go. But in hindsight,  I found I had to keep my index finger on this trigger to keep the machine running. This feature can preserve the vacuum’s battery life, but it makes longer vacuuming sessions more tiring.

As for the Shark IZ462H, all controls are much easier: there is a slider on top of the handheld part used to toggle between two surface type settings: carpet and hard floor. In addition, there is a Dyson-like trigger used to activate maximum suction.

Cleaning Modes

As mentioned above, the Shark IZ462H has three cleaning modes: floor, carpet, and boost. The Dyson V11 also has three vacuuming modes: eco, auto, and boost. With the auto mode enabled, the V11 can detect the type of surface you’re cleaning and automatically adjust the suction level (thanks to the dynamic load sensor) for optimal performance.

But this auto mode is only available if the main nozzle is used. If you replace it with any attachment, it will switch to “med” mode, producing constant suction. I have tested some models where the auto mode is available with all the attachments, such as the Tineco Pure One S11 or S12.

LED Headlights

The Shark IZ462H has some LED lights on the main nozzle, so it has an advantage over the Dyson V11 when vacuuming in dimly lit places. An expensive machine like the Dyson V11 shouldn’t lack this nifty feature.
