Shark IZ163H Vs IZ162H: Differences

When comparing the Shark IZ163H and IZ162H models, the Shark IZ163H comes out on top with a score of 1-0. This is due to its MultiFlex technology, which allows for greater flexibility and maneuverability when cleaning.

Cleaning performance

Tie!

Regarding the Shark IZ163H, its suction power may not be as strong as other machines designed for deep cleaning carpets. Therefore, if you have carpets that require greater suction capacity, it’s important to manage your expectations. However, this vacuum does a commendable job of quickly removing crumbs and similar debris from carpets and rugs.

I personally live in a small, two-bedroom apartment that experiences high foot traffic. Hence, the constant influx of dirt and debris from our unpaved driveway is disheartening. As a result, I find myself vacuuming my apartment anywhere between 2 to 5 times a day. I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with how effectively this vacuum tackles the dirt and dust on my kitchen floor and my entry mat.

There was a slight inconvenience, though, when I attempted to clean up the stuffed toy fuzz from my dogs’ toys. I had to flip the vacuum over a few times to remove pieces larger than a quarter. Figuring out how to retrieve them was a bit frustrating. Eventually, I discovered a simple solution, but having to clean out the dust bucket before anything else could be picked up was annoying.

One noteworthy feature of this vacuum is its ability to pick up copious amounts of dog hair, sand, and litter without the hair becoming tangled around the power head roller.

On the other hand, the Shark IZ162H performs exceptionally well on tile, laminate, and wood floors. However, while its performance on carpets is satisfactory, it may struggle with picking up larger pieces like dog food. Additionally, if your dogs bring in pine needles from outside, the vacuum might not suck them up effectively.

However, this vacuum has been a game-changer for my long-haired dog, which sheds extensively. It not only picks up all the dog hair but also prevents tangling in the brush head. Even cat litter doesn’t pose a problem, as it doesn’t get back out by the vacuum.

Design and convenience

The winner: Shark IZ163H

Weight

The Shark IZ163H weighs approximately 7.17 pounds, which may be considered a bit heavier compared to some other models. In contrast, the Shark IZ162H offers a heavier option, weighing around 7.94 pounds.

The advantage of the Shark IZ163H’s lighter weight is that it enhances maneuverability and makes it easier to carry around, particularly when you have multiple cleaning tasks across different areas of your home. For example, with its lighter design, you can navigate around furniture, maneuver up and down stairs, and tackle various cleaning surfaces with greater ease.

While the Shark IZ163H may have a slightly higher weight, it’s worth noting that its performance and features compensate for this. So, if you prioritize a robust cleaning performance and don’t mind the slightly heavier weight, the Shark IZ162H can still be an excellent choice.

Maneuverability

The weight of the Shark IZ163H may prove to be a challenge for a few customers seeking a lightweight option for maneuvering due to its heavy top. However, the Shark company has addressed this issue by introducing an impressive MultiFLEX technology in this version.

That feature allows us to bend the wand, easily reaching under furniture. This eliminates the need to rearrange the room, saving both time and energy. It also transforms into a compact, freestanding storage solution when folded, occupying minimal space.

What I like is that it is especially beneficial for elderly users is the reduction in physical strain. Bending, lifting, or moving furniture poses a challenge for older individuals due to potential mobility issues or concerns about balance. The Shark IZ163H, however, circumvents these problems. With the bendable wand, elderly users can clean under furniture comfortably, maintaining an upright position without the need for excessive bending or stooping.

While this cleaning model is efficient in its movements, it lacks the same versatility as the IZ163H due to its lack of MultiFLEX technology. For example, one must crouch down to clean beneath furniture, which can be challenging and inconvenient, especially for elderly users.

Battery

The battery life of the Shark IZ163H is somewhat limited, making it challenging to complete a full house cleaning in a 1700 sq ft house without recharging. Therefore, it can be considered marginal and requires charging every few days to ensure continuous operation. With a run time of approximately 30 minutes, it’s important to plan your cleaning sessions accordingly to accommodate the limited battery capacity.

In comparison, the Shark IZ162H offers a slightly shorter run time, ranging from 20 to 25 minutes. To reach a full charge, it takes approximately 3 hours. While the run time may be shorter compared to the IZ163H, the charging time is relatively reasonable.

Considering the battery performance, it’s important to note that both models have their limitations in terms of run time. However, if you have a smaller living space or can divide your cleaning tasks into shorter sessions, the battery life of these vacuums may be sufficient.

Remember: Battery life is a crucial factor in the functionality and convenience of a cordless vacuum. Always consider your cleaning needs and the size of your space before making a purchase.
