Shark HV322 vs NV360: Which Vacuum Is The Most Suitable For You?

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

In the comparison of Shark HV322 vs NV360, choosing the winner is kind of difficult because they have different form factors: stick vs. upright. Indeed, I prefer the Shark NV360, but the Shark HV322 is also a good option if you want a stick vacuum.

I choose the Shark NV360 because I love its strong suction with the ability to turn off the brush roll. Hence, I find it performs better deep carpet cleaning and bare-floor pick-up efficiency. Moreover, it has a HEPA filter with complete allergen seal technology, helping trap the allergy agents inside the machine. Shark NV360 is also lighter than most upright vacs on the market.

For the Shark HV322, it is lightweight, has great suction, and feature LED headlights. Yet, it is more suitable for cleaning small spaces as its dirt bin is much smaller than that of the Shark NV360. Besides, it does not have a HEPA filter. Therefore, I think the Shark HV322 is a good stick vacuum for light-duty cleaning.

Shark HV322 vs NV360: Differences

After considering the Shark HV3220 vs NV360 differences, I see that the Shark NV360 wins 2-1 against the Shark HV322. The NV360 demonstrates better cleaning performance with a bigger dirt bin a greater filtration. Meanwhile, the Shark HV322 is the winner in design and convenience.

Cleaning performance

Winner: Shark NV360

Suction power and control

For the suction power between Shark HV322 vs NV360, the Shark NV360 definitely has the stronger suction. Driven by the 1200-W motor and 10-A electric current, the NV360 is supposed to be more powerful than the HV322.

In fact, the suction at the nozzle of the Shark NV360 is about 84 inches of water lift, while that of the Shark HV322 is between 45-50 inches of water lift. So, you can see that the suction of the Shark NV460 is much greater, making it more suitable for medium- to heavy-duty cleaning.

Moreover, the Shark NV360 offers an option to adjust the suction strength, which is not featured on the Shark HV322. Particularly, the Shark NV360 has the ‘Suction Release’ collar located below the handheld, which allows you to lower the suction whenever you find it is too strong. This feature is very useful for cleaning delicate surfaces that need gentle suction.

Brushroll system

On the Shark NV360, it is possible to turn off the brush roll when choosing the bare floor setting. Turning off the brush roll will assist the pick-up performance on bare floors, as this limits the debris scattering caused by spinning bristles. This also helps prevent the floor from being damaged by the bristle.

On the other hand, the Shark HV322 lowers the brush roller speed rather than stopping it when switching to setting I for the bare floor. However, in the bare floor setting, it slower the brush roller speed, which. The slower brush roller will help reduce the debris scattering and stimulate the suck-in performance while keeping the spinning roller from damaging the hardwood floor.

For me, the option to turn off the brush roll is more beneficial because it will help the vac to pick up better, especially when vacuuming large debris particles. So, the Shark NV360 is a little greater in this aspect.

Compatible floor type

So, Shark HV322 vs NV360, which can be used for cleaning multiple surfaces? The answer is that both can perform good cleaning on multiple surfaces, including carpets, bare/hardwood floors, crevices, stairs, blinds, etc. However, using the Shark NV360 is more appropriate for deep cleaning large areas.

  • Carpets

These vacs can get up fine debris particles like sand and cat litters embedded in carpets. They can also pick up pet and human hairs on this surface type. But it will take more passes for the Shark HV322 to clean up the carpet compared to when using the Shark NV360. I need about 5 passes to pick up the sand in my small low-pile rug when using the HV322, while with the NV360, I just need about 2-3 passes.

These machines do not have the adjustable floor height for the head nozzle, but they can perform well cleaning on low and high carpets and are easy to push on these surfaces owing to their lightweight feature.

  • Bare/hardwood floors

As I mentioned in the previous section, I appreciate the brushroll on/off switch on the Shark NV360, as I find it more effective when cleaning bare or hardwood floors with the brush beater off. The Shark HV322 does perform good cleaning on the bare floor. Yet, when vacuuming larger debris like cereals, the Shark NV360 can pick up more than the HV322.

Besides, you can clean up all the large particles left on the floors with both Shark NV360 and HV322 by detaching the wand from the cleaning head to collect them.

  • Above-floor surfaces and crevices

Both Shark HV322 and NV360 are great vacuums for cleaning the above-floor surfaces as they include useful attachments like the crevice tool, upholstery tool, dusting brush, and detachable pods. Thus, you can clean the sofas, blinds, couches, stairs, or even the car’s furniture surfaces.

Dirt Tank & Filtration

Winner: Shark NV360

Dirt tank

The dirt tank of the Shark NV360 has a greater capacity than that of the Shark HV322. However, this difference is understandable as they have different form factors. Therefore, if you use the Shark HV322 to deep clean your large house, you will have to empty the dirt bin several times during the cleaning session.

Filtration

Between the Shark HV322 vs NV360 filtration system, the Shark NV360’s is the winner. The HEPA-standard filter and the complete seal anti-allergen technology make the Shark NV360 filtration outstanding. The filtration of Shark HV322 does not have either the HEPA standard or the anti-allergen seal.

This sealed HEPA filtration is claimed to effectively trap up to 99.99% of micro dust and allergy agents inside the vacuum, so the air emitted from the machine is fresh, which is very helpful for allergy sufferers. That’s why I think the Shark NV360 is a better option for effective cleaning and is good for your health.

Design & Convenience

Winner: Shark HV322

Maneuverability

  • Detachable pod/power head

The Shark NV360 has a Lift-away canister, which allows the user to detach the pod from the cleaning head and carry it for easier cleaning above-floor surfaces and the area under furniture.

In the Shark HV322 case, it is possible to detach the power head from the wand so that you can attach a suitable accessory for cleaning the curtains, sofa, or fan blades.

  • Cord length

In the cord length of Shark HV322 vs NV360, the former has a longer electric cord (30 ft). So, when using the Shark HV322, you don’t have to unplug and re-plug the cord multiple times in one cleaning session.

The cord of Shark NV360 has a standard 25 ft. length, which is long enough for you to move the vacuum around your house comfortably. However, a longer cord should be better for convenience if you have a relatively large space and many pieces of furniture.

  • Lightweight

The Shark HV322 is very lightweight as its weight is less than 10 pounds (~8.6 pounds), which is lighter than the NV360. The Shark NV360 weighs about 13 pounds, which is lighter than many standard upright vacs on the market.

However, for a stick vacuum, the Shark HV322 has a bit of heavy head power. Therefore, it may be hard on your back, requiring you to have the upper body strength to use it frequently.

  • Swivel steering

Both Shark HV322 and NV360 have a swivel steering feature. This feature will help you maneuver these vacs more easily, especially around the corners or obstacles like furniture.

Noise level

If the noise level of the Shark HV322 vs NV360 matters to you, I think my experience will help. I found that the Shark HV322 is less noisy while vacuuming than the Shark NV360. Yet, the noise level of the Shark NV360 is acceptable as it is below 80 dB (~77dB).

LED headlights

Shark HV322 has LED headlights
Shark HV322 has LED headlights

The LED headlight on the Shark HV322 is a big plus, making it a winner in terms of cleaning convenience. The Shark NV360 does not have headlighting.

The illuminating intensity of the headlights on the Shark HV322 allows me to actually spot the dirt on my dark hardwood floors and floor areas under furniture where light cannot reach. Indeed, it helps me see where I have swept and the dust I have missed sweeping, making the cleaning satisfier.
