Quick And Honest Review: Shark Apex AZ1000 vs AZ1002 – Which Vaccum Should You Get?

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

In case you are confused, Shark Apex AZ1000 vs AZ1002 is a debate between 2 exactly the same vacuums but with some slight differences in the accessories. So, judging solely from the additional nozzles that come with them, Shark AZ1002 is the final winner of this brief debate.

The winner Shark AZ1002 comes with a powered pet brush that helps users get into the handheld mode and clean around the staircase or the sofa without having to haul the entire motor and dirt bin around the house. The cleaning performance also is very recommendable for every type of debris. I have tried it against cereals, snacks, and dust piles, and all of them can’t detain the advancement of Shark AZ1002!

As for Shark AZ1000, it can clean as equally well as the AZ1002 being the exact same model. However, the DuoClean brushrolls on the one I purchased seem to have more trouble maintaining themselves from being wrapt by hair strands. In other words, I have to unclog it more frequently than compared to AZ1002.

Shark Apex AZ1000 vs AZ1002: Differences

Despite being the same vacuum line, Shark Apex AZ1002 wins 2-0 against AZ1000. The former has a powered pet brush and a more useful anti-hair-wrap function. However, the latter struggles a bit in the second aspect. I will give you the full details below!

Accessories

Winner: Shark Apex AZ1002

Both devices come with tools or accessories that help tackle different areas and trash types. And while they share a traditional crevice and upholstery tool, the AZ1002 boasts a powered pet brush with its spinning roller, which actively draws in more debris and hair instead of using only suction to clean. The tool has helped me remove my cats’ hair from the sofa or carpeted staircase with much less effort.

Shark AZ1002 has more cleaning nozzles

The nozzles that come with AZ1002 are a crevice tool, an upholstery tool, and a pet brush. The set of AZ1000 includes crevice and upholstery tools only.

Of course, more accessories mean a higher price. So it’s fair to consider the cost aspect and the convenience aspect. Which one weighs more for you? The answer will help pick with ease.

Dual brushrolls with anti-wrap technology

Winner: Shark Apex AZ1002

As I mentioned, both vacuums come with the DuoClean brushrolls, and the rollers offer impeccable cleaning, with one removing dust and debris. In contrast, the other half-removes and half-polishes the surface that the vacuums go through. The difference, which also is the fall of AZ1000, is that the roller with bristle tends to get clogged with pet hair easier than the one on AZ1002. So despite being the same thing, my personal experience with them has been varied.

Shark Apex AZ1000 vs AZ1002: Similarities

Since these vacuums are the same model, they have more similarities than differences. Check out the 3 major akin aspects that Shark Apex AZ1000 and AZ1002 boast.

HEPA filter

HEPA filter is a well-designed multilayer filtration system that we can find in many vacuums these days. And from my experience with these models, Shark doesn’t lie when it says the HEPA can filter up to 99.9% of dust and allergens. Since I have a sensitive respiratory system that reacts vividly when in contact with dust, I can tell very quickly whether a vacuum has the ability to trap dirt and exhausts only fresh air or not.

Visually, I don’t see any dust clouds from the exhaust port when I vacuum. And olfactorily, I don’t have any allergic reaction or notice any strange smell from the filter.

I recommend cleaning to premotor filters every 2 or 3 cleaning sessions. And it’s necessary to replace them after 3-6 months, depending on the frequency of your house cleaning.

Cleaning performance

I’m impressed because the vacuums aren’t picky when tackling different sizes of dust and debris, and pet hair are also within its capacity for efficient cleaning. The bristles of the back brushroll definitely help pick up all the strands of different lengths. And the soft roller in the front makes my wood floor shinier without me having to mop it. In this regard, there is nothing for me to complain about.

But, I have compared the operation of the brushes above, and I want to reiterate the fact that the roller on AZ1000 clogs more easily even though it’s also anti-tangle and self-cleaning. So, you should keep this detail in mind.

Dirt cup

The dirt cups can contain a maximum of 0.22 gal of debris and dust, which is fairly standard. Dirt ejection also comes in variable methods involving upper or bottom dumping. You can choose to open the bottom of the bin for a direct ejection, or you can open the lid of the container and pour the content into the trash can as if pouring from a water bottom. Personally, I prefer the first method because it avoids spilling and dust clouds better.
