Samsung Jet 90 vs Dyson V12: Today, I’m throwing these two titans’ top-tier products into the ring for a head-to-head face-off, intending to assist you in determining the better choice.

The Dyson V12 is the freshest face on the Dyson V line and carries the company’s newest bells and whistles, including an onboard piezo sensor, Laser Detect tech, and an anti-tangle mechanism. It has a more compact and lightweight design than the V15, which comes at a cost – a decreased suction power and a more modest dust cup.

The Samsung Jet 90 is also one of the best bang-for-your-buck vacuums you could snag on the market. What is included in the package is sure to blow your mind: a self-standing charging station, an extensive set of attachments, and a smart Clean Station.

Samsung Jet 90 Vs Dyson V12: Differences

I call this battle a tie – both have their unique strengths. Let’s dive deeper to determine which one is best for your specific needs and preferences!

Cleaning Performance

Winner: Dyson V12

Suction Power & Floorhead

Though it’s the latest addition to the lineup, the Dyson V12 delivers a max suction power of just 150 AW, trailing significantly behind its forerunner, the Dyson V15  (230 AW). Similarly, the Samsung Jet 90 isn’t Samsung’s most powerful model (that title goes to the Samsung Bespoke Jet), but it still has an impressively powerful 200 AW of suction power.

Regarding the main nozzle, despite the differing names, these two models essentially ship with a pair of floorheads: one for carpets and one for hard floors. The Jet 90 comes with a Turbo Action Brush and a Soft Action Brush, while the Dyson V12 comes out of the box with a Motorbar floorhead and a Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head.

Hard Floor

These machines are fitted with soft rollers, so it’s no surprise that each performed great on this surface type. The V12 was nearly flawless, sucking up virtually all of the debris and leaving a mere 1-2% of minor ones after the first pass. Meanwhile, the Jet 90 one-upped its rival, achieving 100% debris removal. In fact, these impressive figures are hard to reach for models not armed with soft rollers.

Carpet

The Jet 90 might have edged out the Dyson V12 on my hard floor, but the game changed when they faced off on my carpets. On the low-pile carpet, the Jet 90 managed to round up only 98% of the larger debris (initially capturing 100% but dropping 2% after I turned it off) and less than 90% of the small debris. On the flip side, the Dyson V12 hoovered up all the larger debris and around 95% of the tinier particles.

Moving onto my high-pile carpet, the Jet 90 successfully collected all the large debris, but the amount of small debris remaining was quite significant (about 7-8%). The Dyson V12 continued to perform impressively, dislodging 99% of the larger debris and 96% of the smaller ones.

Hair Test

Both machines effortlessly tackled hair/fur on both carpets and floors. However, the Dyson V12 held the advantage when it came to minimizing hair wrap since its Motorbar cleaner head is equipped with anti-tangle technology. This feature is a row of small fangs positioned behind the roller, which proved to be highly effective, although not flawless, in preventing hair from entangling on the roller during the vacuuming process.

Moreover, I bet pet owners will find the Dyson V12 particularly appealing, courtesy of its hair screw tool. It is essentially the same as the Mini Motorized Tool (which comes with the Jet 90) but with the added benefit of anti-tangle technology. I discovered that it performed admirably in swiftly capturing pet hair on smaller surfaces, like my bed and sofas, without hair getting tangled around the roller.

Now it’s time to talk a little bit about the best part of the Jet 90’s package – its Z station. This smart and stylish self-standing charging station is designed to accommodate not only the vacuum itself but also two attachments and an additional spare battery.  It’s truly a blessing for those who prefer not to drill holes in their walls or cannot do so.

This tower doesn’t come pre-assembled straight out of the box, so you will need to roll up your sleeves and unleash your inner DIY enthusiast to get it set up. Trust me! Even if you’re a novice, you can fully assemble it in under 10 minutes. Once you’ve followed the assembly instructions and successfully set it up, you’ll immediately notice its distinctive Z-shaped design, as its “Z-station” name suggests.

I must admit this intelligent station has its merits, but it comes with a few trade-offs. It has a fairly large footprint, which means it will take up a bit of your precious floor space. Also, it can’t hold all the accessories, like the LG Cordzero Kompressor‘s AIO tower.

The Dyson V12, on the other hand, comes with a wall-mounted station, which provides a secure and tidy location to charge and store the vacuum while keeping it safely out of the reach of little ones and pets. It can hold two attachments, and another two can be stored on board via the wand clip. But if you don’t want to have it screwed into the wall, you have the option of plugging the charger into the battery and finding a secure place to store the remaining components.

Weight & Maneuverability

The Dyson V12 is designed with lightweight and compactness in mind. Tipping the scales at approximately 5.3 pounds, this model is the lightest Dyson stick vacuum to date. Naturally, maneuvering and transporting it from one spot to another is an effortless task for everyone, even the elderly.

The Jet 90 is a bit heavier at 6.7 pounds, but it still felt so comfortable in my hand that I was able to use it for long periods of time without straining my wrist. I found its swivel maneuverability may not be as good as the Dyson V12, but it’s not overly noticeable or problematic.

In the semi-handheld configuration, without the wand and the floorhead, they are considerably more compact and lightweight. As for cleaning high-altitude areas, while I could work with the V12 for extended periods of time, the Jet 90 quickly fatigued my wrists and hands after about 15 minutes, forcing me to swap hands to alleviate fatigue.

Cleaning under furniture was a breeze with both of these machines, as they have the ability to lie completely flat on the surface and come equipped with low-profile floorheads. However, the Dyson V12 gains a slight advantage due to its soft roller floorhead featuring a nifty addition known as “Laser Detect” technology. This small green laser did a wonderful job of enhancing visibility, making it easier to spot and clean even the tiniest dirt.

Battery Life

When connected to a non-motorized tool and set at the lowest power setting, both the Samsung Jet 90 vs Dyson V12 can reach the quoted battery life of up to 60 minutes. However, I tested each one with the multi-surface nozzle and discovered that they depleted the battery more rapidly than the manufacturers’ claims:

Samsung Jet 90Dyson V12
Maximum Battery Life≈ 42 mins≈ 41 mins
Minimum Battery Life≈ 10 mins≈ 12 mins
Charging Time≈ 3.5 hours≈ 4 hours

There are two primary types of batteries: built-in and removable for cordless vacuums. Personally, I have a great appreciation for the latter because it offers the flexibility to enhance the vacuum’s runtime by simply swapping out batteries.

Fortunately, both the Samsung Jet 90 vs Dyson V12 use removable and interchangeable batteries. This means it’s entirely feasible to double their running time, which is highly recommended for individuals residing in larger homes. However, each only comes with a single battery, and the spare one needs to be purchased separately.

As mentioned earlier, the Jet 90’s Z station boasts a dedicated charging slot specifically designed for a second battery. This means the tower can conveniently charge two batteries simultaneously, providing an advantage that the Dyson V12’s docking station lacks.

Dustbin & Filtration System

Winner: Samsung Jet 90

In terms of dust cup capacity, the Samsung Jet 90 holds an impressive 0.8 liters, while the Dyson V12 falls behind with a smaller 0.38-liter capacity. As a result, the Dyson V12’s dustbin will need to be emptied more frequently, which is the trade-off for its compact and lightweight design.

Emptying the Dyson V12 is easy with the “point and shoot” mechanism: just push a red lever on the side down to let all the contents go. The process is claimed to be “no touch,” but I found myself a few times using my hands to remove all the stubborn clumps of dirty hair that got clogged inside. If you suffer from asthma or severe allergies, it is advisable to wear a mask while performing this task to ensure your respiratory well-being.

As for the Samsung Jet 90, emptying its dirt tank is a bit more complicated: I had to remove it completely from the top portion, twist the micro filter, remove the cyclone, and turn it upside down to dump the dust. Thankfully, it comes with the Clean Station, which is designed to simplify this process.

Once the dust cup is detached from the handheld unit, simply place it atop the tower, and like magic, all the dirt and dust will effortlessly find their way into a disposable bag housed inside. It’s worth noting that after approximately three emptying cycles, this dust bag must be replaced with a fresh one

This tower is quite bulky and generates noticeable noise during operation. In addition, it is a significant increase in the total price of the package. So if you’re fine with emptying the Jet 90’s dustbin manually, you might want to consider a cheaper package that doesn’t include this tower.

The Dyson V12 is a true blessing for individuals with severe allergies, thanks to its sealed filtration system. This system ensures that no dirt or allergens escape from the vacuum’s body before the filter can effectively capture them. This filter is washable, and you should clean it under the tap whenever the LCD screen gives you an alert.

The Samsung Jet 90 is also great, with a 5-layer filtration system that can trap up to 99.999% of microdust particles, contributing to maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment in your home. The system includes a cyclone, a micro filter, and an exhaust HEPA filter – all are washable except for the HEPA-level filter. To clean the HEPA filter, you will need to gently tap it in the trash can to remove all the accumulated dust and dirt.

Utilities

Winner: Dyson V12

Digital Screen

The Dyson V12 has an LCD screen, which is, in my opinion, the most advanced digital screen in the stick vacuum world. In addition to basic information like battery life and the current power mode, it also gives a few alerts related to blockages and maintenance.

The best part is that this screen shows the amount of vacuumed dust particles in the count and four sizes (10, 60, 180, and 500 microns) via a bar chart. Many people consider this a redundant feature, but it really was helpful to me – it tells me how dirty or clean a particular area is, similar to how the Pure One S12’s dust indicator loop changes its color based on actual dust density.

In contrast, the Samsung Jet 90’s digital screen takes a more straightforward approach to its design and functionality. It only shows the selected power mode and a few alerts but lacks the estimated battery life. Instead, I had to rely on the trio of LED indicators on the battery to know the current battery level.

Control Method

Unlike older Dyson models that required users to hold down a pistol-like trigger for power, the Dyson V12 features a convenient physical button. Once you press this button, the vacuum will run continuously until you press it again to stop. This improvement is welcome because it eliminates the need for prolonged finger pressure and helps reduce hand fatigue. But it would be better if this button was placed somewhere that my thumb could easily reach.

As for the Samsung Jet 90, turning it on/off and controlling it also rely entirely on physical buttons. All these buttons are within reach of the thumb.

Power Modes

The Dyson V12 has three modes: “eco,” “auto,” and “boost.” Once the vacuum is used with a floorhead or a motorized attachment, the auto mode will be available, allowing the vacuum to automatically adjust its suction according to the actual dust density detected by a piezo sensor.

The Samsung Jet 90, on the other hand, has four modes: “min,” “mid, “max,” and “wed.” The final mode, “wet,” is exclusively activated when the vacuum is coupled with the mop attachment, which is available as a separate purchase.
