Samsung Jet 90 vs Dyson V12: Which one is better? My short answer is both win!

The Dyson V12 is a brilliant stick vacuum with incredible cleaning performance. Whether your main purpose is vacuuming bare floors or deep cleaning carpets, it will satisfy you with two separate cleaning heads. Plus, it has many bells and whistles and comes with a great set of accessories. Unfortunately, it has an exorbitant price, which is unsuitable for budget-oriented users.

The Samsung Jet 90 is also fantastic by any standard. This high-end cordless stick is also very expensive and can make many people immediately wince. But if you can afford it, it will get you through your daily cleaning chores with flying colors.

Samsung Jet 90 Vs Dyson V12: Differences

No one wins here! Both are great and have their own pros and cons. So let’s scroll down to decide which one works best for you.

Cleaning Performance

Winner: Dyson V12

Suction Power

To test the Samsung Jet 90 vs Dyson V12’s cleaning performance, I put them through my standard set of tests, which started by measuring the maximum power at the floorhead in AW (AirWatts – a combination of airflow and suction power).

The Samsung Jet 90 vs Dyson V12’s maximum suction power is measured at 200 AW and 150 AW, respectively, putting them on my list of the top most powerful cordless stick cleaners. They were even more powerful than many other models on their maximum suction setting.

It’s a nice feature to see that both the Samsung Jet 90 vs Dyson V12 are packed with two cleaning heads, specially designed for vacuuming hard floors and cleaning carpets.

For carpet and area rugsTurbo Action BrushrollMotorbar Cleaner Head

The Turbo Action Brushroll and Motorbar Cleaner Head are essentially all-purpose cleaning heads that are suitable for various cleaning scenarios. They feature bristles that are great for gathering debris deep in carpets and between floor tiles.

On the other hand, the Soft Action Brushroll and Laser Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head both include removable and washable soft rollers, which are ideal for delicate hardwood floors and tiles. They are also good at removing dust and small debris.

Hard Floor

The Dyson V12 is no different from the other Dyson sticks I’ve tested in that it performed exceptionally well on hard floors. It could pick up approximately 99% of the mess in a single pass. There was a minor amount of debris that escaped and flew off in multiple directions, but this was insignificant, so I didn’t bother much about it. That was a stellar performance that helped it beat many other sticks out there.

Better yet, its floorhead (Laser Slim Fluffy) features the innovative laser “Detect” feature that was first available on the V15. It is a green laser thing that ensured I didn’t miss anything on the floor. It worked best in dimly lit areas.

As for the Jet 90, it also handles everything I throw at its soft action brushroll on my hardwood. Nothing was left behind, or at least my naked eye didn’t detect anything after making a single pass. You can also use the Jet 90 to mop if you buy an extra mop head. I haven’t tested this feature yet, so I can’t say if it works well.

Carpet

On my low-pile carpets, both passed the tests, with approximately 97 to 98% of the debris captured, which was also a commendable effort. Very little was left after a single pass, which was easily captured in another pass.

On my high-carpet, the Dyson V12 is slightly superior, while the Jet 90 significantly struggled despite its suction feeling more than sufficient. It is worth noticing that you should avoid holding the Turbo Action Brush on one area for too long, or it will eventually stop spinning after a few seconds.

Design And Usability

Dimensions And Storage

The dimensions of the Samsung Jet 90 vs Dyson V12 are 44.9 x 8.3 x 9.9 inches and 49.1 x 9.9 x 9.8 inches, respectively. The second one is a few inches higher, making it slightly more comfortable for a taller guy.

The Jet 90 comes with a storage stand that provides a safe spot for the vacuum to sit when not in use. It also has a place to charge two batteries at once and store accessories onboard. You can only put two accessories in the back of this stand, so it is essential to find somewhere else to store the rest of them.

The Dyson V12, on the other hand, comes with a wall mount that is a neater option. Unlike the Jet 90’s storage stand, it can fit in even the tightest spaces. All you need to do is route the charging cable through the docking base and drill it into the wall with a little patience. The Dyson V12’s charging dock also has room for two attachments, while you can put two other tools on the machine’s body. I put the combination and crevice tools here since they are the most used.

Weight And Maneuverability

Weighing just approximately 5.2 pounds, the Dyson V12 is among the lightest Dyson cordless stick vacuums you can get. It is about 20% lighter than the Dyson V15 Detect at 6.8 pounds, largely because it has a smaller motor and dust cup. The Jet 90 weighs 6.2 pounds.

The Jet 90 seems significantly heavier than the V12, but the difference in weight is less obvious than I assumed. I found these units extremely easy to lift and lug around, and they were considerably lighter if used in their handheld configuration. Making tight turns and reaching under low furniture is also very easy, thanks to the rotating head design.

Battery Life

Cleaning ModeSamsung Jet 90Dyson V12
Maximum- Boost10 mins9 mins
Medium- Auto25 mins24 mins
Low – Eco42 mins41mins

The charging time of the Samsung Jet 90 is 215 minutes, while about 236 minutes are required for the Dyson V12 to be fully charged. At the maximum suction setting, they run out of battery pretty quickly. So if you use it as the default setting, like me, and don’t want downtime in the middle of your vacuuming cycle, buying a second battery can make a lot of sense.

Dust Cup Capacity

Winner: Samsung Jet 90

The Dyson V12 features a 0.35-liter dust canister, which is considerably smaller than the Jet 90’s 0.8-liter dust cup. The smaller cup of the V12 means a few extra trips to the garbage can to empty it, but this isn’t a huge problem for tiny apartments.

The Dyson V12’s canister can be easily emptied thanks to the “point and shoot” mechanism. All I had to do was hold the dust cup over a trash can, pull a red lever, and all the stuff would fall out straight into the can. It worked well most of the time, but I sometimes had to remove clumps of hair and debris by hand.

As for the Jet 90, the emptying process was a little more complicated than I expected. I had to detach it from the unit, twist off the cap, and turn the cup upside down to empty it. If you have severe allergies, this mechanism will upset you.

So I strongly advise purchasing a Clean Station, which Samsung sells separately for under $200. This sleek device isn’t cheap and will take up extra space inside your home, but it will help to empty the Jet 90’s dust cup hygienically. All you need to do is put your Jet 90 cup upside down on top and hit the Start button.

Special Features And Utilities

Winner: Tie

Noise

I measured the Dyson V12’s noise level at around 71 dB to 78 dB, which is somewhat loud. At the highest noise level, this model and an alarm clock are neck and neck.

The Jet 90’s noise level ranges from 69 to 74 dB, which is quieter than the Dyson V12. This noise is similar to that of a shower or traffic.

On/Off Control

The Jet 90 uses buttons to turn on and control the device. With these buttons, you can easily turn the device on and off and switch through three different suction settings. The Dyson V12 also has an on/off button, which sets it apart from other Dyson cordless stick vacuums with an on/off trigger. A trigger switch allows you to maximize battery life, but a physical on/off button is handy for those who find it difficult or annoying to hold a trigger for a long time.

I found the Dyson V12’s button to be in an awkward location – on the back of the handle – and I had to use my second hand to push it. So it isn’t a one-handed operation, which might be inconvenient for some.

Display Screen

The Jet 90‘s digital display simply shows the chosen suction mode and some alerts, including “roller stuck,” “clogged,” and “no filter.” It’s a shame that it doesn’t show the estimated remaining runtime, which is crucial for cordless vacuums.

On the flip side, the Dyson V12’s LCD provides more information than any model from other brands. It shows particle data (by number and four sizes), filter and blockage information, how much battery life is left, and the current suction mode.
