Miele Triflex HX2 Vs Samsung Jet 90: A Head-To-Head Comparison

Miele is globally renowned for premium domestic appliances, including cookers, ovens, coffee makers, dishwashers, floor-care products, and more, and its first cordless vacuum was released in February 2020. Although they are just new to the world of cordless vacuuming, their products have quickly sold like hotcakes globally. Today, I’ll compare their Miele Triflex HX2 vs Samsung Jet 90, which also comes from a big name in the tech industry.

The Samsung Jet 90, the overall winner, has many pros. This model comes with two floorheads so that it can work well on any type of surface. The most intriguing part is its Z station, which can stand on its own and charge two batteries simultaneously. However, there are a few things that let me down, such as the spare battery needing to be purchased separately, the lack of headlights, emptying the dust cup being a bit cumbersome, etc.

The Miele Triflex HX2 can rival many cordless vacuums from behemoths like Samsung or even Dyson. Its best selling point is the 3-in-1 design, which allows the vacuum to be used as a stick, a handheld, or an upright. The upright configuration is best for vacuuming floors; the handheld mode is more suitable for cleaning stairs/furniture surfaces/upholstery; and the stick mode is ideal for cleaning ceilings and under furniture. But this patented design cost an arm and a leg, making many people scared because of its exorbitant price.

Miele Triflex HX2 Vs Samsung Jet 90: Differences

The Samsung Jet 90 wins 2-1 and ties once against the Miele Triflex HX2. I was impressed by how well the Jet 90 worked on hard floors, thanks to a soft roller. As a guy who is against drilling into the wall, I also enjoyed its self-standing charging station.

Cleaning Performance

Winner: Samsung Jet 90

Suction Power And Cleaning Head

On its highest setting, the Miele Triflex HX2 generates a maximum suction power of 145 AW, which is equivalent to the Dyson V12 (150 AW) or Tineco Pure ONE S12 (150 AW). The Samsung Jet 90’s peak suction power is 200 AW, which is on par with the LG Cordzero Kompressor. There is a big difference here.

Regarding the floorhead, the Jet 90 comes with a turbo action brush and a soft brush, whereas the Miele Triflex HX2 only includes a regular roller. That said, the Jet 90 has an advantage over the Miele Triflex HX2 when cleaning hard floors.

Hard Floor

On the hard floor, I used the Jet 90 with its soft brush, and it performed very well. Nothing was left behind, or at least my naked eye couldn’t detect anything. It created a seal to prevent small debris from splattering around and provided enough clearance to sweep over larger ones.

The Miele Triflex HX2, on the other hand, picked up a good amount of dust and small to medium debris. But this model pushed large debris around instead of picking it up. The Triflex HX2 Pro version comes with two extra rollers next to the standard brush roller, and one of them is a soft roller for cleaning hard floors. Another thing that the Pro version has over the standard version is a headlight.

Carpet

The Samsung Jet 90 struggled a bit with Max mode enabled since the roller got stuck on my carpet and couldn’t spin. So I think this mode is ideal for cleaning hard floors or low-pile carpets. On the Min mode, the vacuum did a good job, with just a bit of dust left behind.

The Miele Triflex HX2 also easily picked up all the debris on all of my carpets without issue. The Triflex HX2 Pro includes a softer carpet brush roller that is ideal for delicate carpets.

Hair Removal

Both the Miele Triflex HX2 vs Samsung Jet 90 easily picked up hair on all surfaces. Still, they have no anti-tangle technology, so their rollers are prone to having long hair become wrapped around them. I’ve tested vacuum cleaners with anti-wrap technology to tackle such issues, such as the Dyson V15 or Shark IZ862H. Thankfully, it is a breeze to remove the roller from the floorhead for cleaning.

The Miele Triflex HX2 includes a wall dock that can house the vacuum and all of the attachments. In addition, there is a clip-on adapter that can hold two accessories, and I put the two that I use the most there: a crevice nozzle and an upholstery nozzle. Better yet, by putting the handheld unit at the bottom of the vacuum, it can self-standing without leaning anywhere. Thanks to that, I could easily leave the vacuum to do something while vacuuming, such as answer the phone or move the obstacles out of the way.

As for the Samsung Jet 90, it comes with a self-standing station called the Z station. This station provides a safe spot to store/charge the vacuum and has room for two accessories. So I had to leave most of the attachments somewhere else. The Jet 90 has a telescopic wand, which allowed me to easily increase and decrease its length to clean ceilings or for more compact storage. This is an improvement over the Jet 75, its predecessor.

Weight & Maneuverability

The Samsung Jet 90 weighs in at 6.2 pounds, while the Miele Triflex HX2 is noticeably heavier at 7.8 pounds. Although the Triflex HX2 is heavier, it turns out to be more convenient thanks to its 3-in-1 design.

By putting the handheld part at the bottom, the Triflex HX2 can be used as an upright vacuum, which is really convenient for vacuuming large areas. Apart from allowing the vacuum to stand on its own, as mentioned above, it also solves a widespread problem with stick cleaners: Most of the machine’s weight is in the hands of the user.

Putting the handheld unit at the top makes the Triflex HX2 more like a traditional stick vacuum. In this configuration, vacuuming underneath furniture with the floor head or cleaning up high with proper attachments is a breeze, but the vacuum becomes top-heavy.

Eventually, by attaching the floorhead or an attachment directly to the handheld unit, you can easily clean stairs and hard-to-reach areas with a portable vacuum.

As for the Samsung Jet 90, it can also be used in the default stick configuration and can be reconfigured as a portable vacuum by removing the wand from the handheld unit as well. I felt its weight was well balanced, and I didn’t have hand fatigue after a long time.

Both the Miele Triflex HX2 vs Samsung Jet 90 have swivel heads, so maneuvering around obstacles and making sharp turns is super easy.

Battery Life

Miele Triflex HX2Samsung Jet 90
Max Battery Life≈ 42 mins≈ 45 mins
Min Battery Life≈ 14 mins≈11 mins
Charging Time≈ 4 hours≈ 3.5 hours

Both the Miele Triflex HX2 vs Samsung Jet 90 use removable batteries, so their runtime can easily be extended with backup batteries.

Unlike the Triflex HX2 Pro, the standard version doesn’t come with the battery charger cradle and spare battery, but you should buy them separately to double the running time of the vacuum. With the battery charger cradle in hand, two batteries can be charged simultaneously, but you will need two outlets for this: one for the charger cradle and the other for the wall mount.

As for the Samsung Jet 90, the spare battery also needs to be purchased separately. Its Z station has a slot for the extra battery so that it can charge two batteries in the same place simultaneously.

Dust Cup and Filtration System

Winner: Samsung Jet 90

The Triflex HX2 has a 0.5-liter dust cup, which is neither large nor particularly small. Emptying it is a bit awkward: rotate the entire top lid counterclockwise by a quarter, remove the entire cup, keep rotating this lid to open the bottom door, and all the contents will fall straight into the trash can. A quick-release system would make the whole emptying process simpler.

empty the dust cup
Empty the dust cup

The Samsung Jet 90 features a 0.8-liter dust canister, so it needs to be emptied less frequently. Emptying it is also quite complicated: twist the micro-filter, remove the cyclone filter, and turn the dust cup upside down to let all the dust and debris go. Fortunately, the clean station (sold separately) can simplify this process: just detach the entire dust cup and put it on top of this tower. This clean station contains a disposable bag that needs to be replaced after several emptying cycles.

The Samsung Jet 90 features a 5-layer filtration system that is claimed to trap up to 99.999% of microdust particles. It includes a cyclone filter, a micro-filter, and a HEPA exhaust filter. The two heads, along with the dust cup, are rinsable and should be cleaned regularly.

The Miele Triflex HX2 features a micro-filter and a HEPA filter that can capture 99.999% of ultrafine dust particles as well. While the micro-filter is washable, the HEPA filter is, as far as I know, non-washable and needs to be dry-cleaned.

Utilities

Winner: Tie

On/Off Control

Miele cleverly put a slider on the handle that is within a thumb’s reach. This slider allows switching between four positions (Off, Min, Eco, and Max) by pushing it towards.

Likewise, the Samsung Jet 90 also has three physical buttons used to turn the vacuum on and off and switch between the three vacuuming modes: min, mid, and max.

Display Screen

The Jet 90 features an LED screen, which shows the power mode used and some alerts about blockage and maintenance but doesn’t show the remaining runtime. It looks like Samsung wants to simplify this screen as much as possible, but the lack of a battery life indicator is a huge con. As for the Triflex HX2, it has no fancy screen at all, but it has a column of three LEDs that show battery life.
