It’s hard to compare two products when they perform as well as the competition, like in the case of Hoover Windtunnel 3 vs Bissell Pet Hair Eraser. However, this article is my objective review after a period of testing. To summarize, the winner is the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser.

The Windtunnel 3 is a great upright vacuum cleaner. I was really impressed with its great suction power. It is best for deep-cleaning low-pile carpets, and it has a great HEPA filtration system that allergy sufferers like me are looking for.

Meanwhile, Bissell Pet Hair Eraser wins thanks to its good vacuuming ability on both hard floors and carpets. It is especially suitable for pet hair removal. Besides, it is quieter than many machines of the same price and has a super convenient anti-tangle mode.

Hoover WindTunnel 3 vs Bissell Pet Hair Eraser: Differences

After considering the different characteristics of both machines, I conclude Bissell Pet Hair Eraser wins 2:1 against Hoover Windtunnel 3. Read the analysis below to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each machine.

cleaning performance

The winner: Bissell Pet Hair Eraser

Performance on hard floors

The Bissell 24613 has many great features that make it work better on hard floors. The machine is well adapted to many different surfaces, such as tile or hardwood floors. The debris the size of beads, paper clips, or birdfeed is easily sucked into the machine. The brush on/off switch is one of my favorite features on this machine. This function allows you to turn off the brush when vacuuming on hard floors to avoid scattering dirt, as well as limit scratching the floor.

Besides, the machine also has a swivel head function to help it work flexibly in small nooks and crannies with tight spaces with lots of furniture. However, the small minus point is that on my hard floors, it picks up debris but leaves some dust, and I need to use a broom to sweep.

As for the Hoover Windtunnel 3, the hard floor setting is really powerful. Its suction is so strong that it almost sticks to my floor. The machine also has a brush on and off function like the Bissell 24613, and the switch is on the left side of the bottom part. You can toggle the switch on and off with your foot, and I love the convenience. However, because the machine is heavy and a bit cumbersome, pushing the machine back and forth on the floor is a bit difficult.

Performance on carpets

Both machines perform greatly on deep cleaning carpets.

For the test, I dipped the sand in a medium-pile carpet and weighed the dust cup to compare before and after vacuuming. Through two consecutive tests, the result is that the Bissell 24613 sucks up to 98% of the sand on the carpet. The machine also has the function of automatically adjusting the nozzle height to adapt to different types of surfaces. However, in my experience, this function is not effective, and the machine still struggles when working on high-pile carpets.

As for the Windtunnel 3, it did perform really well with fine particulate on carpets, especially on low-pile and medium-pile carpets. Unlike its opponent, this machine offers 4 level nozzle height setting that allows users to manually adjust the cleaning head height to suit the type of surface. Personally, I appreciate this convenience.

Pet hair performance

Designed with pet owners in mind, the Bissell 24613’s ability to clean pet hair is truly commendable. I really had a headache with my white cat shedding all day, and I had to clean up her mess. Luckily, this machine came along, and it sucked all the hair out of the places it went through with a single wipe.

Besides, the anti-tangle brushroll really does great work. I do not like the tangle of hair on the brush after each vacuuming, so I especially love the anti-tangle function of the Bissell. Even though my carpet had dozens of cat hairs, not a single strand of hair was left on the brush. Therefore, if your family has many cats and dogs, I recommend this machine.

Meanwhile, the Windtunnel 3 doesn’t really perform well with pet hair or large particles. It is more suitable for cleaning smaller and finer dirt. It also has no anti-tangle function and struggles to pick up pet hair on both hard floors and carpets. Thus, if you are a pet owner or someone with small children who always drop cereal all over the floor, this machine is not my first choice.

Suction Power

Honestly, the pull of the Bissell 24613 is below average for this price range. From what I measured, its airflow at the hose is 68 CFM and at the head is 48 CFM. These are not bad numbers at all, but it’s not very good either.

Meanwhile, Hoover Windtunnel 3 has a very strong suction. The suction is so strong that it can actually stick to the floor on its own. Only on the 3rd setting on hard floors, the machine almost sticks to the floor. In every place on the bare floors that it passes, it hardly misses any dirt or small-sized debris. The suction at the hose is even stronger.

dirt bin & filtration

The winner: Hoover Windtunnel 3

Dirt Bin

Both the Hoover Windtunnel 3 and the Bissell 24613 are bagless upright vacuums. Instead of a bag, they use a dust cup to store dirt and debris.

The Windtunnel 3 has a much larger dust container capacity than the Bissell, which is an advantage. The larger the dust container, the more dirt it can hold, requiring less emptying. Small capacity will not be an issue if you only need to clean in small spaces; however, with larger spaces, it is different. Sometimes having to vacuum for a while and then have to take out the trash is really uncomfortable.

Filtration

In this aspect, Hoover Windtunnel 3 wins my heart. This unit is equipped with a Carbon HEPA filter, and I am a fan of it. This filter removes odor and traps 99.97% of airborne particles down to 0.3 microns. This is one of the best filters I’ve come across in a bagless upright vacuum cleaner. It is suitable for people with allergies and people with a history of diseases such as sinusitis and allergic rhinitis.

In addition to the HEPA filter, Windtunnel 3 has another filter below the dirt cup. It can be easily washed with water and is reusable. It costs $8 or so to replace if you need it.

As for the Bissell 24613, SmartSeal Allergen System is still good and safe for people with allergies. It also has a foam filter and an after-engine filter. Overall, its filtration is better than average but not particularly good. Its second filter is also not a HEPA filter, so it cannot achieve the same air purification effect as the Windtunnel 3.

design & convenience

The winner: Bissell Pet Hair Eraser

Build Quality

Most upright vacuum cleaners are made mainly of plastic, and so are these two. There’s nothing too impressive about their build quality.

The common advantages of the two machines in this section are all tools onboard and ease of assembly. Initial assembly on this is straightforward; everything just snaps into place.

Despite having similar dimensions, the Hoover Windtunnel 3 is much heavier than the Bissell 24613, more than 4 pounds. Therefore, sometimes moving Windtunnel 3 on the floor is a bit difficult.

Maneuverability

Due to the advantage of a 40-foot power cord and 12-foot hose, the Hoover Windtunnel 3’s operating range is truly wide. It allows you to vacuum in a large room with high ceilings without changing the outlet. However, because the power cord is too long, it will sometimes cause problems. In addition, because it is not a lightweight vacuum cleaner and the suction is too strong, for some people, this machine is a bit difficult to control.

The Bissell 24613 has a 30-foot power cord, not too long but still long enough for you to clean an entire room without needing to change the outlet. Since it’s lighter and the suction isn’t as strong as the Windtunnel 3, it’s easier to maneuver than its opponent. Besides, when standing up the device to use the wand, you can rest assured that the device will not fall down. Moreover, it is also quite easy to move around furniture, and the canister can be moved to the side to get under low furniture.

Noise Level

Overall, the Bissell 24613 is quieter than the Hoover Windtunnel 3, even when vacuuming on hard floors or carpets.

The noise level of the Bissell is about 74 dB. Compared to many machines I have reviewed before, this level is relatively quiet. It’s loud but not so loud that you have to raise your voice to talk to others or damage your hearing.

Meanwhile, the noise level of the Windtunnel 3 can reach 80 dB or more. This level can be compared to a busy street. You will hardly hear the radio or TV while vacuuming with this machine.

Hoover WindTunnel 3 vs Bissell Pet Hair Eraser: Similarities

Although there are many differences, in general, these two vacuum cleaners still have certain similarities. Here are some striking similarities between them.

cyclonic technology

Both machines use cyclonic technology to filter debris and dirt from the airflow to help prevent loss of suction. The air entering from the suction head passes through the first filter (foam filter), where most airborne particles are trapped. The remaining smaller particles will continue to be filtered at the second filter. In addition, their filters are suitable for people with allergies.

led light

I like the LED light feature on these two machines because it helps me pick up items that shouldn’t be put in the vacuums. I can easily see under the kitchen table when I vacuum and know where the dirt remains. This feature is especially effective when there are places where, with the naked eye, you will never know how dirty it is, in fact.
