Hoover WindTunnel 3 High Performance vs Max Performance Best Vacs: What Are The Differences?

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

There are no significant differences between Hoover WindTunnel 3 High Performance vs Max Performance. I have noticed some distinguishing points, but they do not have considerable effects on their vacuuming performance. Thus, for me, it is a tie in this comparison.

Particularly, the Hoover WindTunnel 3 High Performance has some upgraded features, including the longer 40 ft. cord, the Quick Pass Brushroll for faster cleaning, and the switch to go between Floor and Hose suction. Meanwhile, the Hoover WindTunnel 3 Max Performance eliminates the Floor/Hose suction switch and reduces the cord length to 30 ft; but its hose length is increased to 15 ft. instead of 12 ft. like on the High Performance.

They both give very good suction, effectively picking up embedded dirt and pet hairs on carpets and bare floors. They also have a manually adjustable nozzle height and brushroll shutoff pedal, which are useful for cleaning different surfaces. Thus, they are good vacuums for the price and can efficiently serve heavy-duty deep cleaning tasks.

Hoover WindTunnel 3 High Performance vs Max Performance: Differences

Though there are some differences between the Hoover WindTunnel 3 High Performance vs Max Performance, its cleaning performance and convenience do not have significant discrepancies. Therefore, it is a TIE in this comparison.

Cleaning performance

Tie!

Suction power

Between Hoover WindTunnel 3 High Performance vs Max Performance suction power, I can’t tell any difference because they have incredible suction. Their motor is very powerful (1440 W) with that 12 amps power to produce plenty of power. With that power, their measured airflow at nozzle is significantly impressive, which is around 65.7 cfm, much higher than many vacuum cleaners I’d tried in the past.

Brush roll system

On the High Performance version, the brushroll has the QuickPass technology, which the brand claims to make the vacuum clean surfaces faster. Yet, I haven’t noticed this when testing the two versions, as I often push the vacuum over one area about 2-3 times to make sure everything is picked up.

Both vacuums have the brushroll shutoff functionality, and I really appreciate this one. The brushroll off when cleaning bare floors is critical to the sucking performance as the fine solid debris is not scattered away.

Head cleaning nozzle

Both versions of Hoover WindTunnel 3 have adjustable nozzle height. However, the height settings will be varies depending on the model number. The vacuum model I got has 7 height settings. Meanwhile, when reading the reviews, I noticed that some people got the 4-setting model.

This adjustable-height cleaning nozzle is handy when you have different surfaces to clean in your home. For instance, you can easily alter the height of the nozzle to accommodate varied carpet piles; or if the Hoover WindTunnel 3 is difficult to push due to its intense suction, you can increase the cleaning head to make the maneuvering easier.

Floor compatibility

In comparing the pick-up performance between Hoover WindTunnel 3 High Performance vs Max Performance, I can say that these two versions can collect all fine to large debris particles and long to short pet hairs. They work very well on carpets, rugs, and bare floors. On bare floors, it is essential to turn off the brush roll motion to avoid the scattering of debris.

Though their powerful suction is a benefit for deep cleaning, the lack of a suction adjustment function is a drawback. Too strong suction can cause damage to delicate surfaces like press-tiled floors. They also occasionally suck the carpet fiber of my medium-pile and high-pile carpets.

Design & Convenience

Tie!

  • Cord & hose lengths

The length of the electric cord and hose between Hoover WindTunnel 3 High Performance vs Max Performance are noticeably different. The Max Performance version has a 10 ft. shorter cord than the High Performance. Specifically, the cord length of the Max and High Performance version are 30 ft. and 40 ft., respectively.

Meanwhile, the hose of the Max Performance version is 15 ft. long, which is 3 ft. longer than that of the High Performance. In general, such cord and hose lengths are generous for me, so the difference has little influence on my cleaning process.

However, if you need an extended reach for cleaning the above floor, the Max Performance could be slightly better. Meanwhile, if you mainly vacuum with the head cleaning nozzle, the longer cord of the High Performance version is more appropriate.

  •  Floor/Hose suction dial

One feature that is not on the Max Performance is the dial to select between Floor and Hose suction. Therefore, if you want to use the Hose function, you have to bend all way down to disconnect its end from the cradle. Meanwhile, the High Performance still feature this dial, thus you should remember to switch back to the Floor mode after using the Hose option.

  • Weight

They are heavy solid vacuum cleaners compared to my previous vacs. They have the same weight of 18.1 lbs, so when in first use, I was overwhelmed by the amount of force I needed on my arm to move these Hoover WindTunnel 3 models. Besides, they do not feature swivel steering; thus, maneuvering them around the furniture is quite difficult, and I sweated a lot when vacuuming my whole house with them.

However, this heaviness has an advantage: contributing to maintaining the balance of the machines when the hose is stretched for above-floor cleaning. Therefore, you don’t have to worry much about getting the vacuums moved and slipped while cleaning.

Hoover WindTunnel 3 High Performance vs Max Performance: Similarities

The Hoover WindTunnel 3 High Performance and Max Performance vacuums have identical dirt bins, filtration systems, and utility features.

Dirt bin & Filtration

Dirt bin capacity

The two versions of Hoover WindTunnel 3 have the same 1.42 quarts dirt bin capacity. This size of the dirt bin is large enough for me to deep clean my house with three large bedrooms. This is quite impressive to me.

Filtration system

They feature Carbon HEPA filtration for reducing dirt odors when vacuuming. Their HEPA filtration has a standard seal, which can help reduce the dust emitting from the vacuums. So, they are quite friendly to people suffering from dust allergies and asthma.

Utility

Attachments

Hoover WindTunnel 3 High Performance vs Max Performance attachments are the same. All the accessories can be stored on board. Besides, their pivoting dusters can change the angle to clean awkward vents or ceiling fans, and for me, they work quite great. The air-driven pet turbo tool is also useful and efficient in removing pet hairs on my couches and sofas.

Headlights

Both of them have headlights, but I really don’t like them. Their headlights are dim and not directed where it is needed. So, I wish Hoover would change to LED headlights with higher brightness so that it is more effective to illuminate dark surfaces, helping users know where they have and haven’t gone over.
