Hoover Windtunnel 2 vs 3: Why Is The Most Recent Version More Worth Buying?

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

This comparison of the Hoover WindTunnel 2 vs 3 is one that you should not pass up if you are searching for an upright vacuum cleaner that is good for both hard floors and carpets. But which of these vacuums is better?

I had the chance to try out both of these machines, and I came to the conclusion that the Hoover WindTunnel 3 was the superior option. It performs really better in cleaning, especially in high-pile carpets. With the larger cleaning path, quick pass technology, and 3 suction channels, vacuuming with this is easier and faster. Additionally, I appreciated the included extra tool and the longer warranty. However, it came in at a somewhat higher price.

But if you don’t want to spend that much money, you could get a Hoover WindTunnel 2, which is also a great vacuum for any surface. It works quite effectively thanks to its two suction channels.

Hoover Windtunnel 2 vs 3: Differences

Hoover Windtunnel 3 wins 4-1 against Windtunnel 2 thanks to its cleaning performance, a larger dust bin, and some additional utilities. Read the details below to find out more.

    Cleaning Performance

    The Winner: Hoover Windtunnel 3

Cleaning performance is always the most crucial aspect when I choose a new vacuum cleaner. Both models perform admirably when it comes to general cleaning, but they differ significantly when it comes to removing deep-down embedded dirt thoroughly.

    Motor Power

You will see the difference in motor power between the two. While the Hoover WindTunnel 2 is powered by a 1200W motor, the WindTunnel 3 is powered by a more powerful motor of 1440W.-

However, don’t let the numbers fool you. The Watt rating of a motor’s power doesn’t tell you how strong the motor is or how well it vacuums. It only tells you how much energy the motor needs. In this case, the suction capacity is more important.

    Cleaning Performance

When I compared the performance of Hoover Windtunnel 2 and 3, I found that both can pick up the long hair of humans and pets from carpets and bare floors. However, I feel that Hoover Windtunnel 3 is more effective for deep cleaning plush carpets.

The WindTunnel 2 uses 2 channels of suction to pick up and remove surface debris and deep-down embedded dirt and hardwood floors. It also has 5 levels of height adjustment. So I can wipe off any surface with little to no effort.

WindTunnel 3 has 7 height adjustment levels
WindTunnel 3 has 7 height adjustment levels

WindTunnel 3 is an improvement over its predecessor since it has 3 suction channels instead of 2 and 7 height adjustment levels. My home has a plush carpet, a cat, and a dog so having this vacuum is truly ideal for me.

I will simulate how 3 suction channels work so that you can see their effectiveness in vacuuming the high-pile carpet. The first channel will agitate dirt out of the carpet fibers that are the deepest, and then the second channel will bring each dust particle to the surface using the suction channel. And last but not least, the third channel contains all the dust. You may expect to get the clean that is both the most thorough and the most effective.

    Quick Pass Brushroll

Have you ever vacuumed and had to go over the same spot repeatedly? I used to use some vacuum cleaners requiring this. However, with the Hoover Windtunnel 3, you will not need to do this thanks to a technology called Quick Pass Brushroll. It allows me to clean surface debris much more faster without having to pass over the same spot multiple times.

    Dust Bin & Filtration

    The Winner: Hoover Windtunnel 3

    Dust Bin Capacity

The dust bin of the Hoover WindTunnel 2 measures 1.29 liters, whereas that of the Hoover WindTunnel 3 measures 1.42 liters. As you can see, the difference is not too significant.

The dust bin on the Hoover WindTunnel 3 holds 1.42 liters, so you don't have to empty it too often.
The dust bin on the Hoover WindTunnel 3 holds 1.42 liters, so you don’t have to empty it too often.

With a larger capacity, Hoover Winterunnel 3 does not require you to empty the dustbin too often. Having a larger dirt bin is more convenient as long as doing so does not make the machine more cumbersome or heavier. So, in this term, Winterunnel 3 got my vote.

    Filtration

Both vacuums have good filtration systems, which don’t differ much between the two models. Still, it’s a very important part of every vacuum, so I think it should be discussed in depth.

The vacuums come equipped with two filters: the first is a HEPA paper filter, which does an excellent job when it comes to picking up fine particles; the second is an easy-rinse filter, which can be easily washed and reused right away.

The first layer is the industry-standard easy-rinse filter, which, as the name implies, is easily cleaned by washing it with water. You just need to give it a good washing and let it air dry before you can put it back for the next usage. This is something that I really appreciate because it helps me save some money on the cost of purchasing a new filter.

When it comes to the HEPA paper filter, things aren’t quite so straightforward. This layer will catch most dust and small particles, but it will last a long time before needing replacement. This is as a result of the fact that this filter comes after an easy-rinse filter.

The specialized Hoover Windtunnel 3 filter has a carbon-activated layer that absorbs all odors and unpleasant scents that might otherwise be present in the exhaust air.

    Design And Convenience

    The Winner: Hoover Windtunnel 3

    Weight

If you vacuum every day and have to move the vacuum around your home quite often, you might want to invest in a lightweight one. Weight is an important factor to think about. Well, the Hoover Windtunnel 2 vs 3 differ here.

The Hoover Windtunnel 2 vs 3’s weights are 16.1 lbs and 18.1 lbs, respectively. The difference in their weights is not enough to be considered significant. For me, both of these vacuums are quite a little heavy to carry around the house, but once you get used to the wheels, it’s easy.

    Power Cord

Checking the length of the vacuum’s power cord is essential if you have a big house. This is the reason why I took it into consideration when comparing the two vacuums. The length of the power cord for Windtunnel 2 is 25 feet, while Windtunnel 3 is 40 feet.

Hoover Windtunnel 3 has 40-feet cord wrapped around the back of the unit
Hoover Windtunnel 3 has 40-feet cord wrapped around the back of the unit

Regarding the Windtunnel 3, its cord is not retractable but rather wrapped around the back of the unit, and I found it quite lengthy. It is prone to get tangled up and stuck in furniture. Even though you might not think a tangled cord is a big deal, constantly stopping and untangling it can be a real pain.

The Windtunnel 2 has a retractable cord, but the cord rewind feature doesn’t do a very good job of pulling the cord back into the device. The vacuum’s cord rewind feature stopped working after some time I used it. I don’t know if the operator made a mistake or just poor engineering. But not only I but many other users also encounter this problem.

So, the retractable cord feature seems meaningless, and it does not help Winterunnel 2 win over Winterunnel 3 in this match.

    Cleaning Path

The term “cleaning path” refers to the width of the brush roll on a vacuum cleaner. Brush width determines how many times you’ll have to pass the vacuum over an area before it’s clean.

Therefore, I appreciate the cleaning path of the Hoover Windtunnel 3, which measures 15 inches, is wider than the cleaning path of the Hoover Windtunnel 2, which measures 13.5 inches. Both sizes are quite wide. But the inches cleaning paths help me vacuum my large house more quickly.

    Utilities

    The Winner: Tie

    On/Off Brushroll

The rolling brush can be disabled on the Hoover Windtunnel 2 if desired. If you turn off the brush, you can only use suction. This is especially helpful if you’re worried about bumps and scratches on your new smooth, glossy polish. Since the floors in my home are mostly hardwood with area rugs, it’s convenient to be able to switch the brush roller on and off with my foot instead of bending over.

The company removed this feature from the Windtunnel 3, which is a shame. Therefore, you should consider purchasing the Hoover Winterunnel 2 if you have both hardwood and carpets in your home.

    Headlamp

The Windtunnel 3 comes equipped with a headlamp, which is incredibly helpful when cleaning dark areas around your house. However, I wish it was LED instead of a headlamp because it isn’t very bright and doesn’t do a very good job of lighting the way. Anyway, half a loaf is better than no bread.
