If you are planning to buy a cordless upright vacuum cleaner, do not ignore Hoover Onepwr FloorMate Jet vs Bissell Crosswave since they are all products from reputable brands and good quality. Today’s post is my personal review of these two machines. To recap, the CrossWave has the upper hand.

Bissell CrossWave wins my heart with its cleaning performance. When on bare floors, it can handle large debris like breakfast cereal. Although it is primarily designed for hard floors, it still works quite well on area rugs and low-pile carpets.

Hoover Onepwr FloorMate Jet is a great choice for those looking for a compact machine. It weighs only about 10 pounds and takes up a very small area for storage. It not only vacuums but also helps you to polish the floor. In addition, it also picks up fur quite effectively.

Hoover Onepwr FloorMate Jet vs Bissell Crosswave: Differences

After weighing the differences between these two machines, I found that Bissell CrossWave wins 2:1 and ties 1 against Hoover Onepwr FloorMate Jet thanks to its cleaning performance and dirt tank capacity. Read the breakdown below to learn more about the pros and cons of each vacuum.

Cleaning PERFORMANCe

The winner: Bissell CrossWave

Performance on hard floors

Overall, both machines work pretty well on hard floors, but Bissell CrossWave has a better performance compared to Hoover Onepwr Floormate Jet when picking up large particles. It doesn’t matter for the CossWave to pick up small and medium-sized debris on hardwood or tile flooring. It only faltered when I went from Cheerios to full-sized Froot Loops.

These machines have very soft roll brushes that won’t scratch your flooring. These roll-on brushes both clean and polish the surface. They do not leave much water on the floor, and the floor, after being vacuumed and mopped, dries quite quickly.

For the wet cleaning tests, these vacuums did well with soggy cereal, mud, and yogurt. To make sure the floor is cleaned perfectly, you need to pull and push the machine quite a few times, especially with some sticky spills like honey. If you want to clean up spilled soda on the floor, I’m afraid the machine will have a hard time handling the amount of liquid that has drifted into the tiny spaces between hardwood floors.

Another point to keep in mind is that if you are using these vacuums for extreme spills, especially sticky things like yogurt, honey, or caramel, you need to try to keep the spills within the bounds of the cleaning path. If not, the spills will stick to the sides of the cleaner head and make things messier.

Performance on carpets

Bissell CrossWave does a good job at picking up fine and small dry debris on low- and medium-pile carpets. Compared to when on hard floors, it’s a little bit harder to push the machine on carpets, but nothing major.

Since this machine is primarily designed for cleaning hard floors and area rugs, you should not expect too much from its ability to pick up dirt and debris while on carpets. If you only vacuum, this machine tends to embed dirt into the carpet, so you should combine both vacuuming and gently mopping to clean the carpet more effectively.

In my opinion, Hoover Onepwr FloorMate Jet is only suitable for super short pile carpets. Its brush roll is very soft and not stiff enough to dig deep into carpets. This machine is much better for quick cleaning up, but I would not recommend you use it for deep cleaning carpets.

Pet hair performance

When it comes to cleaning pet hair, I found that both machines have the same performance. If your floors are dry, these machines suck up fur and long hair pretty well. However, their brush rolls do not have an anti-tangle function, so a lot of hair still wraps around the roller after vacuuming.

Fortunately, their brush rolls are easy to disassemble, so untangling and cleaning them doesn’t take much time. With Bissell CrossWave, I recommend you purchase this machine with the Pet Pro model’s brush roll to replace the standard one that comes with this main unit. The Pet Pro brush has an anti-tangle function, so it is more suitable for pet owners, while this Bissell CrossWave version saves you about $150 over the Pet Pro version.

As for the wet cleaning tasks, these devices all leave wet pet hair clumps on the floor. In this case, the vacuum was not able to remove all the pet hair, and I had to pick it up by hand.

Dirt tank and filtration

The winner: Bissell CrossWave

Dirt tank

Both machines come with a Two Tank system, which includes a clean water tank and a dust water tank. The clean water tank is responsible for distributing solutions to the floor, while the dirty water tank is where dirty water, dirt, pet hair, and debris are stored.

Regarding capacity, the clean water tank and dirt water tank of Bissell CrossWave are larger than those of the Hoover Onepwr FloorMate Jet (Refer to the comparison table above for more information).

Filtration

Although there is no information that their filtration system is HEPA filtration, in general, these filtration systems still work quite well.

Each machine has a filter located above the dirt water tank. These filters are washable, but you still need to replace them after a period of use because otherwise, they will create quite an unpleasant smell. In addition, their filters are quite small and get dirty quickly, so you need to clean them regularly.

Design and convenience

The winner: Hoover Onepwr FloorMate Jet

Maneuverability

Their maneuverability is fairly great.

In terms of weight, Hoover Onepwr FloorMate Jet weighs 10.4 pounds, while Bissell CrossWave weighs 11.5 pounds. They are both quite light and easy to carry.

These machines are all quite small and slim in appearance, but the Hoover Onepwr is still smaller than the CrossWave. Their small size takes up little space for storage and allows them to slip into tight spaces easily.

Their heads can all be rotated to a fairly wide angle, so the machines are easier to move around furniture and clean corners better.

Hoover Onepwr FloorMate Jet is a cordless type, so there is no entanglement, and users will not be limited in the cleaning range.

Noise level

According to my experience, both machines have the same noise level. Their noise level is around 80 dB – louder than the average noise level of an upright vacuum cleaner.

With such noise levels, you can’t answer the phone while someone else is vacuuming the room. You also cannot talk normally, watch TV or listen to the radio when someone is cleaning next to you. 80 decibels is equivalent to the noise of a busy downtown. If exposed to this level of sound for more than 8-10 hours per day, it will harm your hearing.

Power source

Hoover Onepwr FloorMate Jet is a cordless upright vacuum. This machine comes with a battery and charger. The advantage of this type is that you do not have limited cleaning reach, and there are no cumbersome cords. This is also the point that makes me love wireless machines. Besides, it only takes about three hours to charge the battery fully.

However, the downside is that the duration of the battery is quite short. If you choose the “High” setting, it only lasts about 20 to 25 minutes. If you choose “Eco” mode, it can last up to 30 minutes. Imagine you’re in the middle of vacuuming when the battery runs out; it seems a bit annoying, right? I need more than one battery to clean the entire downstairs continuously. In addition, the battery also heats up quite quickly, after about 5 minutes.

Bissell CrossWave is corded, and its power cord is 25 feet long. Compared to other models at the same price, I consider the length of the power cord to be a bit short. When cleaning larger spaces, you have to look for the next outlet to continue vacuuming. However, if the surrounding area has many power outlets available, you can vacuum continuously without stopping halfway or having to wait for the battery to be recharged.

Controls

All controls of the Hoover Onepwr FloorMate Jet are on the handle, including a “Power” button, a “Mode” adjustment button, and a display screen. That screen shows three factors, including battery indicator, “High” mode for max suction, and “Eco” mode for max run time.

As for the Bissell CrossWave, the controls on the handlebars include “Hard floor” and “Rug.” Additionally, the machine also has a trigger that supplies the water and cleaning solution to the brush roll.

MAINTenance

Tie

Cleaning brush roll

Each machine comes with a tray, which is both a holder for storing the machine and a cleaning tray for the brush roll. You can mix some clean water with the solution and pour it all into the tray, then turn on the machine and let it clean the brush roll on its own. However, with this method, you still have to empty the dirt in the dirty water tank and clean the cleaner head again. You also need to remove the brush roll to dry.

Each machine comes with a tray like this
Each machine comes with a tray like this.

Bissell CrossWave’s brush roll is easily removed. You just grasp the brushroll window at the front and pull it upward to remove it, then pull the brush roll out by grabbing the brush roll tab and pulling it upward. The brush and cover can be washed with warm water and left to dry. You also need to wipe the areas around the location of the brush roll. There are no complicated operations.

The steps to disassemble and clean the brush roll on the Hoover Onepwr FloorMate Jet are the same as above. I recommend cleaning their brush roll after each use.

Cleaning dirt tank

On the CrossWave, press down on the recessed button on the top of the dirty tank to release it. Remove the filter from the top of the dirty water tank by pulling it up. Then, pour dirty water and debris out. Rinse the inside of the dirty water tank. Wash by hand the vacuum filter and screen with warm water and mild detergent. Rinse the float at the bottom of the top of the dirty water tank. Remember to let the above parts dry before reassembling.

The steps to disassemble and clean the dirt tank of the Hoover Onepwr are the same as above. All step-by-step is in the manual.
