It wasn’t difficult to choose the overall winner in the confrontation between the Hoover HF 9 vs Dyson V15.
The Dyson V15 was the overall winner. It has powerful suction to pick up anything on various surfaces, but that makes it a little hard to push on a high carpet. Its battery life is sufficient for those living in large houses, and on top of that, its set of attachments is rich and of high quality.
The Hoover HF 9 has excellent performance on both hard floors and carpets. It is equipped with Anti-Twist technology to minimize the tangled hair problem, making it ideal for pet owners. Regarding the cons, it’s a bit heavy and comes with fewer accessories.

The Dyson V15 wins 2-0 and draws twice against the Hoover HF 9. Both are equal in cleaning performance, but the former is lighter, has a better set of attachments, and its LCD screen is more useful.
Cleaning Performance

I found the suction power of the Hoover HF 9 to be great. While it didn’t seem powerful enough to beat the Dyson V15’s insanely strong suction, it still did a good job on all types of surfaces used for testing.
Hard Floors
Many of the sticks I tested just simply pushed around bits of rubbish or debris rather than capturing them. Thankfully, this is far from being the case with the Hoover HF 9 vs Dyson V15. I used some kind of dust, debris (of different sizes), and hair for my tests, and both passed with flying colors. Note that the Dyson V15 comes with two cleaning heads: the Digital Motorbar and the Laser Slim Fluffy, and I used the first one for my flooring tests (and the second one for carpeting tests).
My only gripe is that their nozzles are quite narrow, resulting in spending more time covering the same area. But I just needed to work a little harder, and everything was fine.
Carpets
The Hoover HF 9 itself moved smoothly since its suction wasn’t so powerful that it pulled at my carpet or on my rug, and I thought this was a plus. It still provided enough suction to gather a whole lot of things on my carpets, including debris of all sizes and large clumps of hair.
If you choose the Dyson V15, be prepared for it to be a little hard to push on high carpets or hairy rugs, even though it provided a great performance on my carpets. Just know that a slider on its digital motorhead can be used to adjust the machine until it moves more freely.
Hair Removal
Both the Hoover HF 9 vs Dyson V15 were great at picking up hair on various surfaces. And better yet, there was almost no hair left on their rollers at the end of the day.
The HF9 has Anti-Twist Technology, which is meant to make it much less likely for human and animal hair to get tangled up on the motorized brush roller. This technology involves a comb that prevents hair from becoming tangled. Instead, it ends up in the dust cup.
In the same token, the Dyson V15 has an anti-hair-wrap system, including a row of fangs, which also prevents you from needing to cut out hair from the roller with a pair of scissors.

Dimensions And Storage
The Hoover HF 9 can stand upright on its own, which means you can store it anywhere or temporarily park it to focus on other tasks. There are very few cordless sticks that can balance perfectly like that. It also comes with a wall mount for easy storage.
On the other hand, the Dyson V15 is top-heavy and can’t stand on its own. So if you want to answer the phone or do something else in the middle of your vacuuming cycle, you need to lean it on a wall or the like. Once you get the job done, just put it on the wall charger.
Weight And Maneuverability
One of the downsides of the HF9 is that its body is quite heavy at 7.49 pounds. It’s a little heavier than the Dyson V15, which weighs 6.8 pounds but it is lighter than my cat. These vacuums will also be significantly lighter if used as handheld vacuums. Maneuvering this duo is child’s play because they feature rotating heads, and I had no trouble getting them in and out of tight corners.

Using the “Boost” setting on both will produce the strongest suction, ideal for handling stubborn debris but draining the machine’s battery very quickly. So I recommend not using it continuously from first to last.
If you live in a small apartment, the HF 9 will be fine for you as long as you put it back on charge after using it. But if you live in a large home, this 30-minute period might not cut it for you. Fortunately, their batteries are all removable, meaning you can always buy another one from the manufacturer. That way, you can switch out a dead battery for one that’s already charged up to get more minutes of use.
Dust Cup Capacity
Winner: Tie
The dust bin capacities of the Hoover HF 9 vs Dyson V15 are 0.7 liters and 0.75 liters, respectively. The dust canisters are on the large side for stick vacuums.
Emptying the Hoover HF 9’s dust cup is straightforward. It’s located on the side of the extension wand, so it can be removed without taking off any attachments. It can be removed by pressing a button at the top, and there is another button at the bottom that needs to be pressed to release the door and let all the stuff fall out. I had to poke and prod a bit to remove some of the collected fluff and hair. That is okay for a cordless stick, but it could be improved.
The mechanism for emptying the Dyson V15’s cup is a bit different but still very easy. You will need to grab a slider that is positioned on the side of the cup and make some up-and-down motions until the dust cup is completely clean without any nastiness (just like how to reload a shotgun).
Hoover HF 9 vs Dyson V15 share a sealed system, which prevents allergens from escaping from the system, as both didn’t leak during the fog test. Better yet, the washable HEPA on both can trap 99.9 % dirt and allergens.
Utilities And special features

On/Off Control
All the control buttons of the Hoover HF 9 are located on top of the handle: the central button is used to turn the machine on/off, and the “mode” button is used to switch between carpet and hard floor modes (which control the speed of the roller), and finally, the “turbo” button is used to increase suction.
As for the Dyson V15, you’ll need to press and hold a trigger to keep the machine running. According to Dyson’s statement, this mechanism will help save power in the long term. On the downside, this can make your hands tired. To switch between the three cleaning modes (Eco, Auto, and Boost), you need to press the button on its LCD screen.
Display Screen
The LED screen of the Hoover HF 9 only gives a countdown on how many minutes it can run before running out of battery. Meanwhile, the Dyson V15’s LCD screen displays more information, including your chosen cleaning mode, an estimate of how much battery life is left, maintenance alerts, and data about the amount and size of sucked dust particles.
Headlight
I also loved the LED headlights of the Hoover HF 9. This nifty feature makes it much easier to see under hard-to-reach areas or makes things that you can miss without the lights more visible.
The Dyson V15’s Laser Slim Fluffy also features a green laser that is brilliant at spotlighting patches of dirt and hair when I vacuum on a gloomy afternoon or night. However, you won’t benefit from this if you use its High Torque 2.0 head.
Attachments
Regarding attachments, the Dyson V15 easily overwhelms the Hoover HF 9 because its great set of attachments is richer.
