Eureka NEU182A vs NEU180: Similarities outweigh the differences, but the former is slightly better.
I think finding an under-$100 upright that is better than the Eureka NEU182A is tricky. It’s a good balance of suction, weight, size, and price. It is quite noisy and can get hot when operating, but you need to accept that to get great suction without spending an arm and a leg.
The Eureka NEU180 is almost identical to the NEU182A, so I don’t want to spend extra time bragging about it. The only thing that sets it slightly behind the competition is that it performs poorly on high carpets.

Eureka NEU182A vs NEU180: Differences
The Eureka NEU182A wins 1-0 against the NEU180. Overall, they are neck and neck, and both are great values for money, but the first one performs better on the high carpet.
Cleaning Performance
Winner: Eureka NEU182A
With its incredibly powerful suction, the Eureka NEU182A could perform well on my hardwood floors and various types of carpets as long as it was set to the proper setting. On my thicker rugs and dense carpets, it worked great and at least exceeded my expectations for a model under $100. Still, this machine grabbed onto my thinner rugs and wouldn’t let go – It seemed like overkill for this type of surface.
As for the Eureka NEU180, it also seemed to work fine on both my hardwood floors and low carpets, like the NEU182A. But I wish it were a little “beefier” to work better on the high carpet, but it wouldn’t have been very different from the NEU182A if this occurred.
These machines got hotter during vacuuming, and I felt this more noticeable after about half an hour. Also, they were very noisy, beyond my line. I’m usually willing to sacrifice quietness for insanely powerful suction, but these models might make me hesitate. They were both incredibly loud and almost made me deaf. This noise level might be acceptable if you only clean a small area. But if you live in a big house like me, just wear earplugs or look for something quieter.
At the end of the day, I noticed a large amount of hair stayed on the roller of both instead of going into its dust canister. Turning the floorhead over and pulling/cutting out anything wrapped around the roller is challenging, tedious, and a waste of time. But this is essential to prolong the roller/motor life and its cleaning performance.
Eureka NEU182A vs NEU180: Similarities
Cord Length
The duo has an under-25-foot power cord. This length is suitable for those who live in a duplex without stairs, but I know not everybody is that lucky. With such a short power cord, I used an extension cord to increase the range to 5 feet to avoid unplugging and plugging in multiple times.
Also, I wish these cords were retractable. Bending down and wrapping them manually is time-consuming, not to mention this can be a big deal for people with back or hip problems.
Weight and Maneuverability
Both the Eureka NEU182A vs NEU180 are very lightweight at 10 pounds, so carrying them around is as light as a feather. They are also compact in size and fit easily in my closet.
With a carefully-placed and well-designed handle, carrying these machines up and down stairs is no longer a burden for those with weak wrists or the elderly. But also because they are so light, keeping them upright to use the hose/wand becomes arduous.
Dust Cup Capacity And Filter
A 2.6-liter dust cup is another thing that the Eureka NEU182A vs NEU180 have in common. That means they can hold a lot of dust and dirt, and there won’t be many trips to the trash can to empty them during the vacuuming process. These cups are all clear, so you can tell how full they are at a glance.
Emptying these dust containers is generally a breeze, but there’s a problem. You’ll need to press a release button at the bottom of the cup to open the door, and gravity will take care of the rest. The point is that you will need to ensure the dust container is high enough for you to press the release button, and this will lead to the spread of dust and allergens. If you have severe allergies, I recommend emptying the cup outside, ensuring there is no wind, and wearing a mask when doing so.
Attachments
The Eureka NEU182A vs NEU180 share a set of attachments, including a crevice tool, a dusting brush, and an upholstery tool. All attachments can be mounted on the body to ensure they are available within your reach at all times.
You can get all the ins and outs on how to use these attachments, but here’s a quick rundown about the best way to use them:
- The crevice tool is intended for cleaning tight spaces or hard-to-reach areas, such as heating vents and baseboard edges.
- The dusting brush works best for more delicate items, such as window blinds, lampshades, and drapes.
- The upholstery brush is handy for capturing hair, lint, and other debris from couches, chairs, and the like.
Filter System
The duo has a removable and washable filter, which is foam with some sort of paper on top. You should wash it about four times a year or more frequently, depending on how often you use the machine. Hand washing it under tap water is best, and machine washing it is also okay. Ensure it’s completely dry (usually takes 24 hours) before reattaching it to the unit.
Surface-Type Settings
There are five types of surface-type settings on both, and you can switch between them by grinding a knob on the floorhead, similar to what you do for most old ceiling fans. It is a breeze to adjust, with solid and positive click-stop feedback at each of the five positions.
