Eureka NEU180 vs 190: Big Differences! – Which One Should You Get For A Better Price AND Value?

Eureka NEU180 vs 190 sounds like a battle of 2 similar models due to their series numbers, but the truth is: these vacuums are very distinctive! After putting their cleaning power to the test and comparing the convenience, Eureka NEU180 convinces me more and wins the debate!

There are several reasons why the Eureka NEU180 is a good vacuum cleaner. Firstly, it is a powerful machine with a motor that can produce up to 8 amps of suction power, making it ideal for cleaning carpets, hardwood floors, and upholstery. Secondly, it comes equipped with a five-height adjustment feature, allowing you to adjust the height of the brush roll to clean different floor types effectively. The suction is very consistent overall!

The runner-up Eureka NEU190, weighing only 11.8 pounds, is relatively easy to maneuver, making it a good choice for those who need to clean multiple rooms or floors. This vacuum also has LED headlights, making detecting dirty areas easier for me or any user. Unfortunately, this model doesn’t have consistent suction as I would prefer.

Eureka NEU180 vs 190: Differences

Eureka NEU180 wins 3-1 and ties once against NEU190. It has proven to be more consistent with its suction power, and there are 5 head height settings to choose from as well! Check out my full review below to learn more about the cleaning performance, filter, noise level, and more.

Cleaning performance and suction power

Winner: Eureka NEU180

Surfaces

Eureka Neu180 works better on carpets, especially high-pile ones that are shaggy and harder to work on. The reason is that it has 5 manually adjustable height settings to collaborate better with each surface. So when I work on hard floors, I can set the brushroll lower, and the head height remains consistent, while on high-pile carpets or rugs, I can move the roller higher to avoid adding weight to my arms and wrists, and the suction doesn’t chew up the carpets.

Also, NEU180 comes with an exposed pair of wheels to improve the movement of the vacuum. Even though it’s not self-propelled, I can still appreciate the assistance of the wheels when going over carpets and rugs, which are the surfaces that require the most physical effort when vacuuming. I wish NEU190 had the same set of wheels instead of the restricted ones, so I don’t have to push and pull with force frequently.

So, in shorts, it’s easier to vacuum with NEU180 on all floor types, while NEU190 is better designed for bare floors and low-pile carpets only. We can still haul it around high-pile carpets and rugs, but the floor nozzle will struggle due to the head height that can’t be secured due to being automatic-adjusting.

Debris

The suction power of the NEU190 isn’t stable enough, which is the biggest reason why it can’t excel above NEU180. However, against pet hair, I find no problem with it since the bristles of the roller pick up strands rather easily.

But against dust patches or small sand around the floor, I have to go over the same floor section a few times to pick up all the dirt with NEU190. With NEU180, a push forward and backward usually eliminates all the particles on my way already. So I rarely have to go over a section repeatedly, like I sometimes do with NEU190.

Filtration system and dust cup

Tie

The disc filter is a type of filter commonly used in vacuum cleaners to capture dust and debris from the air as it passes through the machine. The design of the disc filter is simple yet effective, consisting of a series of round and spongy foams.

One of the advantages of disc filters is that they are relatively easy to clean and maintain. When the filter becomes clogged with dirt and debris, it can be removed from the vacuum cleaner and either cleaned or replaced with a new one. And the disc filters are also washable, extending their lifespan and reducing the need for frequent replacements.

However, it’s important to note that disc filters can have some limitations. For example, they may not be as effective at capturing very small particles, such as pollen or allergens, as the HEPA filter.

Height adjustment

Winner: Eureka NEU180

The Eureka NEU180 features 5 height adjustment settings that allow you to customize the vacuum’s brush roll height to suit different floor surfaces. This is important because it helps ensure the vacuum is cleaning effectively and efficiently on carpets, hard floors, and other surfaces.

The height adjustment setting on the NEU180 is located on the front of the vacuum, and it can be easily adjusted via the rotary switch. The vacuum has 5 height settings in total, ranging from bare floor to a high-pile carpet, so you can choose the right height for the surface you’re cleaning.

As for NEU190, it has an “automatic” height adjustment feature that is supposed to change the head’s height automatically depending on floor type, whether it’s bare floors, high-pile, or low-pile carpets. But this feature is genuinely unstable, and there is no way to ensure that the head height remains stable when users work in the same section. I have tried it and did not like it! It gets caught in the fabric from time to time.

Utilities

Winner: Eureka NEU190

Eureka NEU190 wins the round thanks to its LED headlights, which is a convenient function that its opponent, NEU180, doesn’t have. There are many benefits to having these lights on the floor nozzle of your vacuum. The lights make dust particles stand out more, which our naked eyes may not catch at first glimpse. Whenever I clean with the lights on, I can see the dust patches and spots I missed.

Also, it’s not easy to vacuum under the sofa or the bed without any assistance from a flashlight. I know I can’t thoroughly clean it without enabling my phone’s flashlight. So, it’s convenient to have a system installed already on the vacuum itself.

Noise

Winner: Eureka NEU180

The Eureka NEU180 is generally considered to be a quieter vacuum than the NEU190. I have been using these models for a while, and I find NEU190 to struggle a lot when cleaning larger dust piles or removing debris from carpets, which are the moments when the noise level is noticeably higher than usual.

I have checked the brushroll to see if clogging causes the noise level to be so loud, but it’s the vacuum’s doing, not any error. So, despite not having a device to measure the decibel of this vacuum, I can confirm that it’s noisier than NEU180’s 88dB.
