Are you expecting a reliable and efficient vacuum cleaner but finding it challenging to choose between the Eureka NEU180 vs 185 models? Well, look no further because after putting both models to the test, I can confidently say that the Neu180 is the superior choice.
While both models are excellent at cleaning, the Eureka NEU180 outperforms its counterpart in several key areas. It has stronger suction power, making it more effective at picking up dirt, dust, and pet hair from carpets and hardwood floors. The Neu180 also comes equipped with a washable filter, making maintenance and upkeep a breeze.
On the other hand, the Eureka NEU185 is still a solid option. It also has impressive cleaning capabilities, washable filters, and a lightweight feature. However, it falls short in terms of suction power and utility compared to its rival. Keep reading to learn more about the detailed explanation.

Eureka NEU180 Vs 185: Differences
In the competition of vacuum cleaners from Eureka, the NEU180 model emerged victorious against the NEU185 model with a decisive score of 2 wins to 0 losses, along with one draw. The former proved to be a formidable opponent thanks to its superior suction power, ergonomic design, and helpful utilities.
Cleaning performance
The winner: Eureka NEU180
Suction power
I know most of you are curious about how powerful a vacuum cleaner’s suction is and how well it actually performs. Generally, the more suction a vacuum has, the better it can clean various floor types and surfaces. So, do these models have as much power as advertised? In my experience, the Eureka NEU180 and V185 offer decent performance for their price range.
One of the main differences I noticed between NEU180 and NEU185 is the level of suction power they offered. NEU180 has a powerful suction system that can easily lift and remove dirt, dust, and debris from various types of floors, including carpets and hard surfaces.
On the other hand, NEU185 has a decent but not outstanding suction performance. It can clean most floors adequately, but sometimes it struggles to pick up all the dirt in one pass. However, it still meets my requirements.
Compatible floor type
I observed that NEU180 is superior for carpets and bare floors because it possesses an exceptionally powerful suction capability to lift dirt and debris effortlessly. This model also contains a height adjustment mechanism that permits me to toggle between various floor types without compromising suction power.
NEU185 is ideal for hardwood floors and low-pile carpets due to its adequate suction strength that can extract dust and minute particles. The optimal choice would depend on your primary flooring material.
Pet hair performance
The Eureka NEU180 is fantastic at picking up my hair and the cats’ fur, but when it comes to vacuuming cat litter, it’s an absolute nightmare. My initial attempt to vacuum up the cat litter ended in utter chaos. It took me way longer than it should have to clean the area because the debris sprayed everywhere, coating the floor and walls and vacuuming. So if cat litter cleanup is a priority, you must consider it carefully.
With Eureka NEU185, as a pet owner with two dogs that shed like crazy, I had high hopes for handling the hair situation in my home. However, I found that while it does an okay job picking up pet hair, it still leaves a lot behind, especially around the furniture, like our entertainment center.
Design & Convenience
Ties!
Dirt Tank
Starting with the Eureka NEU180, while it does offer a bagless canister that is easy to empty, there is one issue that some of you may encounter. When you go to empty the canister, there is a chance that dust and powder can spill out onto the machine and the floor. This can be frustrating since you’ll then need to re-vacuum the area to clean it up.
To combat this, I have tried placing a plastic bag inside a tall trash can before emptying the canister to minimize the mess. Keep in mind, though, that you will still need to rinse out and allow the canister cup, sponge filter, and cap to dry.
On the other hand, the Eureka NEU185 offers a slightly different experience when it comes to the dirt bin. While it can also be difficult to snap the canister closed after it has been emptied, it does not appear to have any issues with opening and leaking during cleaning. This means that you won’t have to worry about additional messes to clean up, which can be a big plus.
Noise level
The role of noise level is crucial for users who are looking for a reliable and high-quality vacuum cleaner. The noise level refers to the amount of sound or interference that the vacuum produces while in use. In this case, the NEU180 produces a noise level of over 80 dB, while the NEU185 produces a noise level of 88 dB.
For users concerned about noise levels and wanting a quieter cleaning experience, the NEU 180 model would likely be the better choice. The lower noise output will allow for a more peaceful cleaning session without worrying about disturbing others or risking hearing damage from extended use.
Maneuverability & handle design
Regarding Eureka NEU 180, it glides smoothly on carpets without much effort. Actually, it does not have a telescoping handle, but it has a clever design that lets you use the onboard tools with the handle attached.
However, this design has a flaw: the hose tends to come off if you pull it too far, even if you align it carefully. This forces me to hold the handle near the hose connection, which is awkward and uncomfortable. Sometimes I just skip the handle and attach the tools directly to the hose.
On the other hand, NEU 185 model has trouble moving on some surfaces and gets stuck easily. It has a telescoping handle that can be used as an extension wand for cleaning hard-to-reach areas. But I don’t really appreciate this design because it makes the vacuum wobbly when I push and pull it. Also, the handle gets dirty from touching the floor and other places, and I have to clean it every time I use it. I wish they had a separate handle and extension wand instead.
Utility
The winner: Eureka NEU180
When it comes to utility, both NEU180 and NEU185 perform excellently with their versatile attachments. For example, NEU180 comes with a crevice tool for getting into tight spaces that are often hard to reach, a dusting brush specifically designed for gently and effectively cleaning delicate surfaces, and an upholstery tool ideal for vacuuming various types of furniture and fabric.
On top of that, this model features a retractable cord, so it offers additional convenience and ease of use. The retractable cord allows the user to extend the cord to the desired length based on their want at any particular moment, then automatically retract the excess cord back into the device when it is no longer needed.
Eureka NEU185 also provides similar attachments. They provide similar functionality to those included with many other common upright vacuum brands and allow users to tackle a wide range of cleaning tasks with a single appliance.
Eureka NEU180 Vs 185: Similarities
In addition to the key differences between the Eureka NEU180 and NEU185 models, I want to highlight some important similarities that could impact your buying choice. Both models share comparable features worth considering before you make a final decision.
Weight
The weight of a device is an important factor to consider when purchasing it, especially when it comes to portability and ease of use. In this case, both models mentioned are lightweight, weighing only 10 lbs. This feature makes them easy to move around and carry up and down stairs, particularly useful for those needing to transport the devices frequently or with limited space.
The fact that both models are lightweight also means that they are less likely to cause strain or fatigue when being carried or moved around, which can be a significant benefit for users who may have physical limitations or health issues.
Washable filter
Both the Eureka NEU 180 and NEU 185 feature a washable filter. This is a convenient feature as you can simply wash and reuse the filter instead of replacing it regularly. When the filter gets dirty, you can just remove it from the vacuum base, wash it with water and detergent, and let it dry.
Once dry, you can put it back into the vacuum and continue vacuuming. This saves you time and money as you do not need to buy a new filter. In addition, a washable filter is also more environmentally friendly than disposable filters.
