Dyson V7 vs V11: Both are cordless stick vacuums in the V-Series lineup of Dyson. While the V11 is the newest and most expensive model, the V7 offers comparable functionality at a more reasonable price. So which is your best bet?
After using both of them, I give the edge to the Dyson V11. It has a higher suction power, resulting in superior overall cleaning performance, especially on hard floors. In addition, its battery life is substantially longer, and it has a slightly larger dirt bin and more convenient features.
The Dyson V7 is a cordless stick vacuum cleaner that is both lightweight and agile, allowing for effortless movement around obstacles. Being lightweight and easy to maneuver, it’s perfect for those with little home space.

The Dyson V11 beats the Dyson V7 by a score of 4-1. While both vacuums do a great job of cleaning, the Dyson V11 stands out with its many helpful features and long battery life. Keep reading for more details.
Cleaning Performance
The Winner: Dyson V11
Airflow
When operating the main nozzle at full power, the Dyson V11 may produce up to 34.23% more airflow than the V7 (Dyson V7: 100 AW, Dyson V11: 185 AW).
This improvement contributes to an increase in the V11’s overall performance. That is what the brand has claimed to users. As a matter of fact, I am aware of it whenever I employ either one. The difference will be felt most when I clean the carpet; indeed, the Dyson V11 did better thanks to this stronger suction.
Cleaning Heads
The Dyson V7 comes with a Direct Drive cleaning head, and you may find a Fluffy soft roller head on some models.
The Dyson V11, in contrast, features an improved version of the Direct Drive cleaning head called the Torque Drive cleaning head.
The V11 models do not include the Fluffy cleaning head. If you normally use Dyson’s Fluffy cleaning head on your hard surfaces, this could be a downside to the Dyson V11. It is not a big concern for me because I find the Torque Drive cleaning head effective enough.
Cleaning Modes
The Dyson V7 only has two different cleaning modes: Auto and Max. You can turn on the Max mode when cleaning extremely difficult areas, dramatically enhancing the suction power. However, the V7’s battery life would be severely reduced if it were constantly used in Max mode.
The Dyson V11 may be switched between 3 cleaning modes: Eco, Auto, and Max. Using the digital display on the vacuum’s back, you can quickly and simply toggle between these settings. Alternatively, you may hand over the job to the vacuum itself and let it adjust the suction accordingly by choosing Auto mode.
The Dyson V11 has that ability thanks to the Dynamic Load Sensor technology. The V11 is able to decide on its own which cleaning mode is required for each different kind of floor and then make the appropriate adjustments. This helps to get a longer run time and saves the battery.
Hard Floor Cleaning Performance
With two adjustable gates, the Dyson V11 is superior to the Dyson V7 when it comes to cleaning hard floors. In my tests, the V11’s superior suction and gates meant it took just one pass with the cleaner to collect debris of all sizes. Thanks to these gates, Dyson V11 can pick up even significant bits of large dirt like Cheerios.
The V7 was able to remove the majority of the debris but not all of it. This is because it has trouble processing large debris. It can effortlessly pick up smaller materials such as pet hair and fine dust; but larger debris which the V11 can effortlessly pick up, stubbornly stayed on the floor when the V7 was used.
That’s to be expected, though, given the V11’s 185 AW and 170,000 rpm peak, whereas the V7’s max is a more modest 100 AW and 125,000 rpm.
Low Pile Carpet Cleaning
I found that the V7 and the V11 were more evenly matched on the low-plie carpet. Each vacuum effectively removed almost every sort of dirt and dust from the low-pile carpet. So it’s unnecessary to do much deliberating between these two vacuums if you’re seeking a cleaner for low-pile carpeted floors in your home.
High Pile Carpet Cleaning
They were almost as effective on high-pile carpets as on low-pile ones, picking up over 99% of dust and dirt. My plush carpeting looks better than it ever has before. They removed all of the dirt from the fibers of the carpet.
Design & Convenience

Configuration
There will probably be a noticeable difference between the two of these vacuums as soon as you pick them up and compare how they feel in your hand because they have different overall configurations.
The dust bin on the V7 forms a “T” with the extension wand, but on the V11, the two components are arranged more or less in a straight line. Dyson claimed the new design made the cleaning power and airflow better. Dyson V11 indeed has higher suction power and airflow, but I’m not sure that’s the inevitable result of only the change in configuration.
Weight & Maneuverability
The vacuums are easy to maneuver. However, the V7 has the upper hand because its more compact design means less fatigue even after extended use.
Even with its extension tube and main nozzle, the Dyson V7 weighs only 5.45 pounds. When using this vacuum, one thing that stood out to me was how lightweight the handle was.
The V11 is heavier overall due to its larger motor and batteries. At 6.7 lbs, it’s not much heavier than the Dyson V7, but my arm starts to fatigue after 20-30 minutes of vacuuming. Especially in the max setting, the suction makes it difficult to push forward; thus, my hands become fatigued faster.
Because of its smaller size and lighter weight, the V7 is superior for handheld use. Its smaller design makes it more versatile than the V11’s larger but less flexible frame. I prefer using the V7 to using the V11 for cleaning my car.
Battery and Run Time
You can count on the Dyson V11 lasting for around 60 minutes when using Eco mode, 40 minutes when using Auto, and just 15 minutes while using Boost. These impressive numbers allow for a full cleaning of even sizable homes on a single charge without worrying about running out of power. Dyson V11 also includes a click-in battery. This allows you to swap in fully charged batteries to extend run time further.
In terms of battery usage, it is the biggest disadvantage of the Dyson V7. Because its runtime of 30 minutes is significantly lower than the usual standard of 40 minutes for a cordless vacuum, it is not recommended for houses with more than two bedrooms unless you are willing to charge it again for three hours. The most frustrating thing is that the Max setting loses battery after only 7 minutes.
Using the V11, I can check the run time left on display. But the V7 doesn’t have any sort of battery indicator; you’ll only realize it needs charging when the motor stops working. Only when the motor has turned off will the battery indicator lights on either side of the handle begin flashing (indicating the battery needs to be topped off).
Don’t like other vacuums from other brands; the Dyson continues to operate without any loss of suction even when it is nearly running out of battery, which is what Dyson promised.
Dustbin & Filtration
The Winner: Dyson V11
Dustbin Capacity
Compared to the V11, the V7’s dust bin is less capacious. The V7 has a maximum capacity of 0.53 liters, whereas the V11 can hold up to 0.77 liters of debris. You could get the impression that they are on the smaller side, but considering that they are both stick vacuums, you’ll realize these sizes are reasonable. What a strain they’ll put on your wrist if the dust bin’s abnormally big.
If you have a larger house, the V11 is a better option than the V7 because it can run longer before needing to be emptied.
Emptying The Dustbin
The dustbin needs to be emptied slightly differently on the V7 than on the V11, but neither model is particularly challenging in this regard.
The Dyson V7 has a convenient top clasp that can be pulled to open the dust bin and remove the trash inside.
The V11 takes a more traditional “trigger” technique, with a sliding clasp on the bin’s side. When the clasp is depressed, the entire container is propelled forward, at which point the debris is ejected.
Filters
There is only one filter in the V7 Motorhead, and it’s a pre-motor filter. If you require superior filtration, the V7 Allery or V7 Fluffy are equipped with a post-motor HEPA filter.
The V11 combines the functions of a pre-motor and post-motor filter into a single unit. It is situated behind the motor, which prevents allergens from escaping through the exhaust; this is not the case with the V7 Motorhead.

Click-in Battery
As mentioned, the Dyson 11 has a click-in battery that makes removal and replacement a breeze. The Dyson V11 is a dream come true because not only does its battery last significantly longer than that of the Dyson V7, but it offers this amazing new feature. Now that I have a spare battery for my Dyson V11, I no longer worry about running out of power while using a cordless vacuum cleaner.
The V7 doesn’t have a click-in battery system. Please don’t get it mixed up! Just because the battery can’t click in doesn’t imply it can’t be removed. The battery can be removed from the V7; however, doing so requires more effort. You’ll need a screwdriver to unscrew it. Unlike the Dyson V11, its design doesn’t allow quick battery swaps. Until it can no longer hold a charge, you shouldn’t take it out to put in a new one.
User Interface
We’ll go on to compare the interfaces of these vacuums. To turn on the motor on the Dyson V7, you have to hold the trigger. And it also has a slide switch that allows you to switch between the power modes.
The trigger is still included in the Dyson V11; however, the slide switch has been removed. Now, to switch between the three power modes, we use a single button on the digital display.
The digital display is vibrant and interactive, giving you real-time data like battery life, remaining time, error codes, and more. I like that it displays the remaining time, so I know when to have the vacuum charged.
Dynamic Load Sensor
The V11 further improves upon the V7 by including a Dynamic Load Sensor. Thanks to this technology, the V11 can adapt its suction power based on the surface beneath it. As a result, you can clean thoroughly when necessary without draining the battery.
I like that I won’t have to deal with the power settings every time I transition from hard floor to carpet, or worse, just leave it on a constant setting such as med or max power.
Unfortunately, this function only applies to the Torque Drive Cleaning head, so you must manually switch between power modes when using the other cleaning head.
Price & Value For Money
The Winner: Dyson V7
If you only care about price, the Dyson V7 is your best pick. On carpeted floors, its cleaning efficiency is about on par with that of the V11, whereas on hardwoods, it has trouble sucking up large debris. This isn’t anything that would affect you if you don’t often use it to clean up large debris.
While the Dyson V7 is an older model, it still provides excellent cleaning performance for its relatively modest price, provided you can live with its shorter run time and fewer advanced functions.
The Dyson V11 is a more expensive but potentially more valuable option if you need a powerful vacuum that can effectively clean like a full-size upright. In addition, the V11 boasts increased battery life by three times that of the V7, stronger suction, a convenient digital display, and more.
