The Dyson V15 Detect works great on both hard floors and carpets, as it is equipped with two cleaning heads specifically designed for those purposes. It has decent battery life and comes with a great collection of attachments. What takes the shine off it is the lack of a HEPA filter, which is only available in the Absolute version.
At up to 185 AW of maximum suction on the Boost setting, the Dyson V11 Animal has enough power to clean carpets of all types. However, it lacks some V15 bells and whistles, and the biggest miss is that it doesn’t include the Fluffy floorhead, which is specifically designed for hard floors.

The Dyson V15 Detect wins 2-0 and ties once against the V11 Animal. The areas where the V15 Detect triumphs over the V11 Animal are hard floor cleaning and bells and whistles.

Suction Power
The first factor separating the Dyson V15 Detect from the V11 Animal is suction power. Both the Dyson V15 Detect vs V11 Animal’s motors are very strong, spinning at up to 125,000 RPM. They can generate a maximum suction power of 185 AW and 230 AW, respectively. These numbers seem to be pretty far apart on paper, but my tests show that they are on equal terms regarding cleaning performance.
Hard Floor
The Dyson V15 Detect comes with two cleaning heads: High Torque 2.0 and Laser Slim Fluffy cleaning heads, which are specifically designed to vacuum hard floors and deep clean carpets. Meanwhile, the V11 Animal is only packaged with a High Torque 1.0 floorhead.
The High Torque 2.0 and High Torque 1.0 floorheads are essentially multi-surface cleaning heads, meaning they can work on carpets and hard surface flooring. However, I think they are ideal for deep cleaning carpets. The Laser Slim Fluffy Head has a removable and washable soft roller.
The strong suction of the Dyson V15, combined with the Laser Slim Fluffy cleaning floor head, was able to pick up debris of all sizes. This head has a lower profile, so it can easily go further under furniture. Moreover, the add-on green laser headlight made sure nothing was left out.
The V11 Animal, with the high torque floorhead, also picked up a good amount of stuff on my hard floors, but not all. This is normal because, as I mentioned above, this floorhead is ideal for deep cleaning carpets.
Carpets
Both the Dyson V15 Detect vs V11 Animal shone brightly on the low-pile carpet. The second one also had an excellent performance on high carpets with the boost setting.
But I found that the boost mode created very strong suction, so the Dyson V15’s floorhead was pulled down onto the high-pile carpet, causing the roller to stop or be unable to pick up large debris. Then I opened the front seal gates, and everything was fine. Another possible option is switching to a lower suction mode, but that will reduce cleaning performance.
After the test sessions, there was a decent amount of long hair staying on the roller of the Dyson V11, which was not the case with the V15. The reason is that the V15’s High Torque 2.0 cleaning head is equipped with a row of polycarbonate teeth, which is called anti-hair-wrap technology. It wasn’t perfect, but it worked.

Weight And Maneuverability
The Dyson V15 Detect weighs 6.8 pounds, while the V11 Animal brings 6.68 pounds to the scale. They are neither light nor particularly heavy, and I couldn’t really feel the difference. Maneuvering them is easy thanks to the rotating head, and their nozzles are not too wide, so they can easily get into tight areas.
They are not heavy, but their weight is not well distributed since the motor and dust cup are placed on top. They are, therefore, top-heavy and may fatigue people with weak wrists.
Battery Life
There are many factors that affect the battery life of a cordless vacuum, but none is as significant as the vacuuming mode. The Dyson V15 Detect vs V11 Animal share three cleaning settings: eco, auto, and boost. The first one uses less battery but produces less suction, while the third one consumes the most battery to provide the strongest suction.

By adding a piezo sensor, the machine can count exactly how many dust particles are captured and break them down into four sizes corresponding to the four color columns.
The Dyson V11 Animal, on the other hand, sports simpler LED light indicators that provide information regarding the cleaning mode, remaining run time, and maintenance alerts.
