Over the course of time, they have consistently introduced advanced models, with each successor boasting enhancements over its predecessor. You will clearly see that via my comparison of the Dyson V11 vs V15.
The Dyson V15 currently holds the title as the undefeated champion, persistently emerging as the victor in all my comparisons. It proudly bears the mantle of Dyson’s most potent cordless stick vacuum to date, packing the latest punches, including the Laser Slim Fluffy floorhead, piezo sensor, patented anti-tangle technology, and an advanced LCD display. If there’s anything to make you say no to this one, it would solely reside in its steep price point.
Despite the Dyson V11 having relinquished its status as the brand’s flagship, it continues to overshadow various rivals out there, maintaining its esteemed position. This one lacks some of the latest technology but is worth considering for Dyson enthusiasts who can’t afford the V15’s outrageous price tag.

The Dyson V15 utterly outperformed the V11, achieving a flawless victory with a score of 3-0. It’s hardly a surprise, considering the Dyson V15 is presently the most potent and smartest stick vacuum in Dyson’s lineup.
Cleaning Performance

Suction Power & Floorhead
The Dyson V11 boasts a maximum suction of 185 Air Watts (AW), which surpasses the newest Dyson cordless stick, the Dyson V12 (150 AW). Meanwhile, the Dyson V15 has up to 230 AW of maximum suction, positioning it at the top end of the suction spectrum.
Regarding the floorhead, the V11 (Torque Drive) comes out of the box with a High Torque cleaner head. Meanwhile, the Dyson V15 takes the lead with two floorheads, a Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head, and a Digital Motorbar head, empowering it to deliver outstanding performance across various surface types.
Hard Floor
Equipped with the next-generation Fluffy cleaner head, the V15 adeptly eliminated all sizes of debris with ease. It leaves nothing in its wake except for a flawlessly clean path. This is a feat that only Dyson’s flagship can accomplish.
Despite lacking a soft roller, the Dyson V11 demonstrates exceptional performance on my hard flooring. It effortlessly collects nearly all small to medium-sized debris, only pushing about 1% of the total debris forward. To deal with larger debris, I had to fully open both gates on the nozzle and wiggle the vacuum a bit.
Carpet
The Dyson V15 maintained its exceptional performance in cleaning my carpets. On my low-pile carpet, it effectively eliminated all sizable detritus, with a residual of 1% of smaller particles left untouched. Comparable outcomes were observed on the high-pile variant, though the quantity of smaller debris not addressed in the first sweep increased marginally by 3%.
On the other hand, the V11 also had high scores across the board. It efficiently gathered nearly all of the debris on the low-pile carpet, leaving behind only 1% of the larger particles and 2% of the smaller ones. Regarding the high-pile carpet, the amount of larger and smaller debris left behind after the initial sweep was approximately 2% and 4%, respectively.
Hair Test
The Digital Motorbar head of the V15 incorporates an anti-tangle system. I proceeded to test this feature by attempting to remove hair from sofas, hard floors, and carpets to see if any tangling would occur.
Fortunately, it didn’t disappoint me – both models effortlessly collected all the hair. But only the V15 left virtually no strands on their rollers. Its anti-tangle system is among the best systems I’ve experienced. So it’s no exaggeration to say that the V15 is a blessing for pet owners.
In addition, the Dyson V15 is equipped with a Hair Screw tool which proved effective in hair removal from sofas, leaving zero strands wrapped around its roller.

Battery Life
Both the Dyson V11 and Dyson V15 models boast an advertised battery life of 60 minutes. But this impressive battery life is only achievable when the vacuum is utilized with a non-motorized tool and set to the minimum power mode. So achieving this maximum battery duration might be improbable for most users since the main nozzle tends to be the main tool utilized (unless you already have a robot vacuum to take care of the floor cleaning).
I tested each one with the multi-surface floorhead, and here are the results I got:

I’m thrilled these models come equipped with swappable batteries (Dyson dubs them “click-in”). Need more juice for your daily clean-up? Just snag an extra battery. Both the V11 and V15 use the same click-in battery, and a backup is just an Amazon order away.
It is worth noting that there are two ways to charge these vacuums, depending on if you’re not keen on drilling into your wall:
The traditional way involves a bit of DIY – you’ll need to drill and secure the docking station to a wall that is near an outlet. No sweat! You don’t need to be an expert to get the job done! Then, once docked, your vacuum charges automatically, always ready for the next clean-up spree. It’s a perfect solution if you’re in a tight apartment where every square foot counts.
However, if drilling into the wall isn’t your cup of tea, you can simply plug the charger directly into the battery and store the vacuum and all its attachments in a safe nook.

As you can see, the Dyson V15 comes with a hair screw tool instead of a mini-motorized tool. This improvement, in my opinion, makes the newer model a pet owner’s dream. I found this small motorized really shined in picking up hair/hairs on small and hard-to-reach surfaces, such as sofas and stairs, without tangles.
Utilities
Winner: Dyson V15
Both the Dyson V11 vs V15 have LCD screens on top of the handheld part. What they have in common is that they show the estimated battery life and the current mode. But the V15 is ahead of the game since its screen shows the count and size of vacuumed dust particles.
Specifically, it is equipped with a piezo sensor that can count dust particles that are sucked into the unit and classify them into four different sizes – 10, 60, 180, and 500 microns. Many people consider this feature redundant, but I don’t think so. It told me if I should spend extra minutes cleaning a specific area. Some folks consider this feature redundant, but I beg to differ. It tells whether I should give a particular spot a few more minutes of vacuuming.
And the cherry on top? When paired with the main nozzle or the motorized tool, the V15 uses this data to tweak its suction for peak performance.
Meanwhile, the dynamic load sensor – nestled inside the multi-surface floorhead of both the Dyson V11 and V15 – can also auto-tweak the vacuum’s suction based on the type of surface it’s working on. I found this sensor has increased suction on carpets and decreased it on hard floors. Of course, it is only available if the vacuum is paired with the High Torque or Digital Motorbar cleaner heads.
Dyson V11 Vs V15: Similarities
Dustbin & Filtration System
The Dyson V11 vs V15 share a 0.75-liter dustbin, making them the biggest among all the Dyson vacuums I’ve tested. Empty them is based on a very simple mechanism, what Dyson calls “point and shoot:” Just push a lever down to let all the contents go.
Dyson calls this “hygienic bin emptying,” and “there’s no need to touch the dirt,” but I found this isn’t totally true, especially when there was a lot of hair vacuumed. Most dirt and dust would come out with only one slide, but some hair clumps can get stuck deep in the dustbin, making me get my hands dirty to evict them.
If you’re one of those folks grappling with allergies, you’ll be glad to know these machines pack a completely sealed filtration system armed with a filter that can trap up to 99.97% of teeny-tiny particles. The filter, positioned at the top of the handheld component, is washable, and the screen will give you the heads-up when it’s time for a rinse. To keep downtime at bay, I’d strongly suggest buying a backup filter.
Weight & Maneuverability
Weighing about 6.8 pounds, these machines are on the lightweight side. But they felt a bit top-heavy in my hands due to their design – the motor and dustbin assembly are on top. Not a big problem since I could still maneuver them easily on the floor. But when using them in handheld configuration to clean areas above my head, such as ceilings, I had to alternate hands constantly to avoid strain on my wrist.
They can also easily get under furniture, including low-clearance ones, as they can lie completely flat on the ground. But the V15 takes the lead with the “Laser Detect” technology, which was my go-to assistant when cleaning those dimly lit areas.
Control Method
The final shared feature between the Dyson V11 and V15 is the on/off trigger, which needs to be held down continually to keep the vacuum running. This feature is designed to save battery power in mind since as soon as you release the trigger, the machine will stop working immediately. About the trade-off? Your hand/wrist will quickly get tired.
