The Dyson V11, even without the latest bells and whistles, clinches the winning spot in this comparison. What makes it stand out? Its key strengths lie in the Dynamic Load Sensor technology, which allows for automatic suction adjustment according to the surface type, and the anti-twist feature that makes it a perfect choice for pet owners.
The Bosch Series 8 also presents strong competition with a great set of attachments and an impressive battery life of up to 80 minutes with two included batteries. However, its performance leaves room for improvement – an unexpected shortcoming for a model in its price range.

Cleaning Performance
Winner: Dyson V11
Suction Power & Cleaning Head
These cord-free sticks share a maximum suction power of up to 185 AW. They have pretty impressive suction power but are not the most powerful model I’ve tested. That honor is held by the Dyson V15 (230 AW) – Dyson’s smartest and most powerful stick vacuum.
The Dyson V11 and the Bosch Series 8 come equipped with only one multi-surface floorhead, dubbed the High Torque floorhead and the All-Floor HighPower head, respectively. It’s worth noting that the V11 Absolute version (not available in the US) includes a soft roller in the box, which is specifically designed to tackle hard floors.
Hard Floor
Both the Dyson V11 and Bosch Series 8 performed admirably in picking up fine and small debris on this type of surface. All of such debris was removed in the initial sweep, leaving behind a spotless path. This level of cleaning efficacy is expected of most stick vacuums.
But the handling of the larger debris made the difference between them. The Dyson V11 could pick up all the large debris but required a little more effort: I had to fully open both gates on the nozzle and wiggle the vacuum a bit. Meanwhile, the Bosch Series 8 pushed the majority of large particles instead of sucking them up due to its low clearance.
Carpet
The carpet cleaning performances of the Dyson V11 and Bosch Series 8 stand in stark contrast – it’s like comparing night and day. The Dyson V11 impressively managed to pick up the lion’s share of debris in its first pass, leaving only a minimal trail of fine particles, irrespective of the type of carpet it was on.
On a low-pile carpet, the Bosch Series 8 removed smaller debris with ease and could capture a good chunk of larger particles as well. Sadly, its performance faltered on thicker carpets, where the roller experienced noticeable slowdowns and even came to a complete halt when it bogged down on this type of carpet.
Hair Test
When put through the paces with a hair collection test, both vacuums picked up strands of all lengths in one or two sweeps with little fuss. However, the Dyson V11 took the cake with its anti-tangle technology. If you look closely behind the brush roller, you will see a comb with many small fangs – they are polycarbonate teeth carefully engineered to nip the problem of hair entanglement in the bud.
Without anti-twist technology, the Bosch Series 8 required additional elbow grease to untangle its roller at the end of a cleaning session.

Neither the Dyson V11 nor the Bosch Series 8 don’t have the self-standing prowess of the Shark Stratos, nor do they come with a convenient self-standing charging station like the LG CordZero. Instead, they need to be parked in included wall stations for both charging and storage. For those residing in compact apartments, this type of charging station is really a panacea as it provides a safe and organized spot for vacuum charging/storage and saves precious floor space. It is also a godsend for pet owners, keeping the vacuum tucked away from curious paws.
However, not everyone is keen on turning their walls into Swiss cheese with drills. If you fall into that category, there’s an alternative tailored just for you – you can dock the battery into the charging station and stow the vacuum elsewhere – since batteries of both can be charged without the vacuum.
The Dyson V11’s docking station is quite the multitasker with room for two attachments, and two others can be stored onboard via the wand storage clip. On the contrary, I couldn’t find any way to put attachments to Bosch Series 8’s charging station or its body. This isn’t a deal-breaker, but it’s worth considering.
Weight & Maneuverability
The Dyson V11 and Bosch Series 8 tip the scales at 6.7 and 7 pounds, respectively. While the difference in weight is minimal, what is surprising is that the Bosch Series 8, despite being the heavier contender, felt more ergonomic in my grip. Its weight distribution is well-balanced, with the handle directly on the motor and dustbin assembly.
With the ability to lie completely flat on the floor, these machines can easily go further under any low-clearance furniture. They all feature rotating swivel heads to facilitate maneuvering in tight corners and crevices. However, I noticed that the swivel functionality on the Bosch Series 8 fell slightly short in comparison.
These vacuums also offer the versatility to transform into portable handheld devices, perfect for tackling hard-to-reach spots. But I quickly found that my hand was fatigued when cleaning overhead areas, as the full weight of the vacuum bore down on my hands.
Battery Life
The Dyson V11 vs Bosch Series 8 claim an impressive battery life of 60 and 40 minutes, respectively. However, is reaching this battery lifespan as easy as pie? I’m afraid not. Unless you’re planning on using the vacuum with a non-motorized tool on the lowest power setting the whole time – which, let’s be real, is about as likely as pigs flying. So I tested each one with the floorhead, which is the most commonly used, and here’s the lowdown on the results:

Both are juiced up by detachable batteries. So if your dwelling is on the larger side of the spectrum, it’s a no-brainer to keep a second battery in your arsenal. The Dyson V11 comes out of the box with a click-in battery, and the extra one need to be purchased separately. The Bosch Series 8 is better with two batteries included and a quick charger which shortens the charging time from 5 hours to about 50 minutes.
Dustbin & Filtration System
Winner: Dyson V11
The Dyson V11’s dustbin can hold a lot of dust and dirt with a capacity of 0.75 liters, while the Bosch Series 8’s 0.4-liter dust tank needs to be emptied more frequently.
The first model also takes the lead with its user-friendly emptying mechanism: All I had to do was remove the wand from the top position and push a lever down to send all the contents straight to the trash below. I had to do the up and down motion a few times to ensure nothing was left. As for the Bosch Series 8’s dust tank, emptying it was more complicated than I expected. I had to separate it from the handheld part by pressing a button, removing the filter on the top, and turning it upside down to let all the dust and dirt go. With such a small dust cup, emptying it should be simpler with the push of a button.
The Dyson V11 is a top-notch option for individuals with severe allergies, as it boasts a sealed system and a HEPA filter. This powerful duo works in tandem to capture a staggering 99.97% of microscopic dirt and allergens, ensuring that the air in your home remains fresh and pristine. Better yet, the filter is washable and reusable. Just remember to store it completely before re-attaching it. It usually takes at least a day, or even more, to dry completely, so you can eliminate downtime by purchasing an additional filter.
While the Bosch Series 8’s filtration system isn’t explicitly labeled as HEPA grade, it is claimed to possess an impressive filtration capacity of 99.9%, and we have to trust in this stated filtration performance. Its filter isn’t washable, but you don’t have to knock it against the side of the trash, either. Just turning the handle on top to knock out trapped dust. The process may appear straightforward, but there’s a lingering doubt about whether it can effectively remove everything. Personally, I still lean towards washable filters as my preferred choice.

User Interface
The Dyson V11 comes equipped with a practical LCD screen that displays the battery life and selected power modes. Moreover, it is positioned in a convenient spot, allowing for effortless monitoring while vacuuming. There is a small physical button there to switch between modes.
Similar to other Dyson cordless vacuums, excluding the Dyson V12, the V11 is operated by a trigger mechanism. It must be continuously held down throughout the cleaning process, which may result in hand fatigue – It’s a surefire recipe for hand fatigue, no doubt about it!
Unlike its counterpart, the Bosch Series 8 doesn’t flaunt a fancy digital screen. Instead, it keeps the control panel simple with a small LED light perched on the top, serving as a battery indicator. It also has a trigger, but you only need to press it once without holding it down to activate the vacuum.
Power Mode
The Bosch Serie 8 keeps things straightforward with just two options: standard and turbo. Activating the turbo mode is as simple as pushing a button, giving you that extra oomph for tackling tough cleaning tasks.
The V11, on the other hand, includes three modes: eco, auto, and boost. Auto mode is really the icing on the cake: it can automatically adjust the vacuum’s suction based on the type of surface detected by a dynamic load sensor (increasing on the carpet and decreasing on the floor). But it is only available when the main nozzle is attached.
