Dyson V11 Total Clean vs Torque Drive Extra: The only difference between these two versions is the set of attachments. The Total Clean is unavailable in the US and doesn’t include three accessories: the mini motorized tool, the mini soft dusting brush, the stubborn dirt brush, and the wand storage clip. Meanwhile, with the soft roller, the Total Clean version has the advantage on hard floors over the Torque Drive.

  • Soft roller floorhead: This floorhead is crafted specifically for cleaning hard floors. This part helps pick up debris of all sizes easily and quickly. Two newest models, including the Dyson V15 and V12, even come with a more modern soft roller dubbed the Laser Slim Fluffy floorhead, which is equipped with laser light to make the dust and dirt more visible.
  • Mini motorized tool: The mini motorized brush is essentially the motorbar cleaning head but is smaller in size. This spiral bristle floorhead uses a small motor to spin the internal brushroll to capture debris. This attachment is great for cleaning smaller surfaces, stairs, upholstery, and more.
  • Mini soft dusting brush: This brush has longer bristles and is larger than the dusting surface of the combination tool. I usually use it for clean fabrics and some delicate surfaces.
  • Stubborn dirt brush: Its bristles are much stiffer bristles than that of the dusting brush and are useful for dislodging stubborn dirt from carpet fibers and ground-in debris.
  • Wand storage clip: This attachment allows to attach two attachments to the vacuum’s body.
  • Low-reach adaptor: This tool can be bent at an angle of up to 90°, allowing the user to slide the vacuum further under low furniture without bending over. This is really a lifesaver for people with back or hip problems.

Dyson V11 Total Clean Vs Torque Drive Extra: Similarities

Storage

The Dyson V11 includes a wall-mount charging station. By mounting this charging station near an outlet, the vacuum will be automatically charged every time it is parked on this station. It only holds two attachments and has no room for the spare battery, which needs to be purchased separately.

If you feel uncomfortable with drilling into your wall, consider buying a self-standing charging station, which is an additional $90. It can keep the vacuum and all the attachments neatly stored in one place, but it still doesn’t have a slot for an extra battery like the Samsung Jet 90‘s stand.

Weight And Usability

The V11 has roughly the same dimensions as the previous V10 model but weighs 6.68 pounds, around one pound heavier. I still felt it was easy to carry this machine up/down the stairs and from room to room. Perhaps the only cord-free stick vacuum that made me feel arduous to carry around is the Dyson V11 Outsize, the heaviest Dyson vacuum. And apart from the default cordless stick vacuum configuration, the Dyson V11 can also be used as a portable handheld vacuum.

Battery Life

To my mind, how quickly a battery-powered vacuum runs out of battery depends on more than one factor, such as the type of surface, the type of tool used (motorized or suction-only), and most importantly, the cleaning mode selected. The following results were measured with the motorbar cleaner head attached:

Battery LifeEco mode: ≈ 76 mins
Med/Auto mode: ≈ 35- 38 mins
Boost mode: ≈ 9 mins
Charge Time≈ 240 minutes

This vacuum uses a click-in battery that is easy to detach and insert. For me, one battery isn’t enough to complete my daily vacuuming task because I use boost mode most of the time, which drains the battery the fastest – so purchasing additional batteries is highly recommended. My only gripe is that its charger can’t charge two batteries simultaneously, so you must wait longer to get two fully charged batteries.

Dust Cup And Filtration System

All the Dyson V11 versions share a 0.75-liter dust cup, except for the Outsize version. Emptying it is simple: grab the red lever and do the up and down movement a few times until all the content goes to the trash can underneath.

People with severe asthma will be better off with the Dyson V11 since it has a sealed system and a washable HEPA filter. The sealed system ensures that the vacuumed air can’t escape from the vacuum’s body before being properly filtered by the HEPA filter. This filter is washable and reusable many times, but it will need to be replaced one day. It also makes sense to have a spare filter on hand to cut down on downtime every time you give the filter a wash.

Utilities

One thing that the Dyson V11 has over its previous models is the Dynamic Load Sensor, which automatically adjusts the vacuum’s suction power according to the surface type. With the Motorbar cleaner head attached, just turn on the auto mode, and you won’t have to fine-tune the suction when moving from hard floors to carpets and vice versa.

The current mode is shown on an LCD screen (on top of the handheld unit). It also displays the estimated battery life in minutes, which varies according to the mode used. The only V11 version without this screen is Animal. There is a physical button on the screen that is used to switch between the three modes.

To activate the vacuum, you will need to hold down a trigger. In the latest model, Dyson V12, this trigger was replaced by a physical button. Perhaps Dyson realized that keeping the trigger pressed for long periods of time can cause hand fatigue.
