When it comes to comparing the Dyson V11 Torque Drive vs V10 Animal, the final result is difficult to make. However, through several tests, my first pick is the V11 Torque Drive.
The Dyson V11 Torque Drive is the winner as it has stronger suction and a better cleaner head design, significantly supporting the cleaning efficiency and optimizing the cleaning time. Besides, it has an LCD screen for easily tracking the battery runtime and maintenance alerts. Moreover, the V11 Torque Drive is good at handling high volumes of pet hair on the floor without clogging, thanks to the hair-detangling vanes in its main cleaner head.
Dyson Cyclone V10 Animal is ranked in second place because it has lower suction power, shorter actual battery runtime, and only an LED display. However, as the name implies, this vacuum is more appropriate for cleaning pet hairs as it has accessories and hair-detangle brush rolls that are excellent at removing hair on floors and above-floor surfaces.

The Dyson V11 Torque Drive wins 2-0 against the V10 Animal in terms of cleaning performance and utility. In the design convenience category, the score is a draw.
Cleaning performance
Winner: Dyson V11 Torque Drive
Generally, the Dyson V11 Torque Drive and Cyclone V10 Animal work and transition well between carpeted and hardwood flooring types. They can deal with different types and sizes of dry dust and are exceptionally good at pulling up hair. However, the Dyson V11 Torque Drive is relatively better at picking up larger debris like cereals and kibbles on bare floors.
The difference between these two Dyson vacuums can be attributed to their suction power and cleaner head designs.
Suction power
The Dyson V11 Torque Drive has higher suction power than the V10 Animal. The V11’s highest suction power reaches 185 AW and ~101 inches of water lift, while that of the V10 Animal is 150 AW and ~84 inches of water lift.
With that stronger suction, the V11 Torque Drive can clean multiple floor surfaces quicker and is suitable for deep cleaning. When I embedded sand in a medium-pile carpet, the amount of sand pulled up by the V11 Torque Drive in a slow-forward pass was more than the amount collected by the Dyson V10 Animal. The efficiency of pick-up on carpets in the medium suction power of the V11 Torqure can reach 97%, while that of the V10 Animal stays around 85%.
Cleaner heads
It seems that the Dyson V10 Animal and V11 Torque Drive come with similar main cleaner heads as they all feature motorized bristle brush rollers. However, there are two noticeable differences between these two floorheads. The main floorhead of the Dyson V10 Animal is called the Motorbar cleaner head, while that of the Dyson V11 Torque Drive is the High Torque floorhead.
The High Torque cleaner head is equipped with Dynamic Load Sensor, which is responsible for detecting the cleaning surfaces to adjust the suction power and helps optimize the battery life. Additionally, this V11’s cleaner head has 2 adjustable gates. When I keep these gates wide open, it is advantageous to get larger debris like cereals sucked into the dust bin.
On the other hand, the Motorbar of the V10 Animal is the traditional cleaner head, meaning it is not equipped with the sensing feature and adjustable gates like the V11’s High Torque cleaner head. Therefore, when collecting large debris on bare floors, the V10 animal often pushes things away.
However, the cleaner head of V10 Animal has hair-detangling vanes that are effective in preventing hair from wrapping around the brush roll. The Dyson V11 Torque Drive’s high torque floor head does not have these vanes; thus, the amount of long hair wrapped on the roller is often more significant. Therefore, if you need to deal with high volumes of pet hair, I believe the Dyson V10 Animal is a more appropriate product.
Besides, there are two small problems I noticed with the V10 Animal and V11 Torque Drive main cleaner heads. One is that they do not have headlights for spotting hidden dirt on hard flooring, and another is they scatter the debris when I run it too quickly.
Design & Convenience

The V11 Torque Drive is a little heavier than the V10 Animal. However, owing to effective weight distribution, my experience of holding the V11 Torque Drive and V10 Animal in the handheld form is not too different; they are all easy to maneuver.
Nevertheless, what I do not really fond of about the design of the Dyson V10 and V11 is their on/off control buttons. To keep the vacuum on during the cleaning session, I have to hold down the red trigger continuously. This makes my hand tired quickly and somehow inconvenient to swap hands in the middle of the cleaning.
When it comes to the battery life, I can say that the Dyson V11 Torque Drive definitely improved the battery. Though both of these two vacuums claim to have a max runtime of 60 minutes, I found that the actual runtime with the main cleaner heads of the V11 Torque Drive is even longer than what the brand claimed.
Meanwhile, the Cyclone V10 Animal gave the shorter actual run time, which was about 47 minutes, with the main cleaner head. However, with the better battery life, the charging time of the V11 Torque Drive is longer than the V10 Animal, which is 4.5 hours instead of 3.5 hours.

I chose the Dyson V11 Torque Drive as the winner owing to its LCD screen, which is not featured on the Cyclone V10 Animal. The LCD screen of the Dyson V11 Torque Drive displays the runtime countdown in each selected mode and illustrations for alerts and maintenance. Besides, the V11 Torque Drive has more attachments than the V10 Animal, as can be seen in the following table.
However, if you are a pet owner and do not perform frequent deep cleaning, I would recommend the Cyclone V10 Animal because it has a hair screw tool with a conical roller bar specially designed to achieve the best hair-detangling performance. Therefore, this tool is effective for removing pet fur on furniture. Moreover, the Dyson V10 Animal is also cheaper than the V11 Torque Drive, so it is a competitive candidate to consider.

The Dyson V11 Torque Drive and Cyclone V10 Animal have the same dust cup capacity and filtration system. Specifically, their dust cup is 0.8 liters, an adequate capacity for cleaning on a daily basis. They are all fabricated with an advanced whole-machine filtration system that can filter micro dust up to 0.3 microns and expel the cleaner air. So I don’t have to worry about dust blowing back into the air when I vacuum.
