Today, I will compare the Dyson V11 Torque Drive Extra Vs Absolute: two sub-versions of the Dyson V11. If you are a Dyson lover, you may already know that the Dyson V11 Absolute is unavailable in the US – in fact, this version is available in very few countries, including the UK and Canada. So how is it different from the Dyson V11 Torque Drive? Let’s scroll down for more information.
Dyson V11 Torque Drive Vs Absolute: Comparison Chart
Dyson V11 Torque Drive Vs Absolute: Differences
The Absolute version wins 1-0 against the Torque Drive version since it comes with a soft roller floorhead, resulting in better cleaning performance on hard floors.

As you can see, the Dyson V11 Torque Drive vs Absolute share almost all of the same parts and accessories. The only difference is that the Absolute variant comes out of the box with the soft roller floorhead, designed mainly for vacuuming hard floors.
The V11 Absolute is the only V11 variant that comes with this type of roller. My test showed it worked well on hardwoods – The vacuum could pick up all debris on this type of surface without scattering it around the floor.
Dyson V11 Torque Drive Vs Absolute: Similarities
Design And Usability
Maneuverability And Storage
Both the Dyson V11 Torque Drive vs Absolute weigh around 6.53 pounds – lighter than the Dyson V15 (6.8 pounds) and considerably heavier than the Dyson V12 (5.2 pounds). They are very flexible: their swivel heads allow for 90° turns, even though they don’t have wheels.
Like all cord-free machines, they can be used as handheld vacuums with just the body and attachments. If you want to reach higher or go further under the furniture, just attach the wand to the handheld unit.
They include a wall-mounted charging station, which can hold the vacuum and two attachments together but has no room for the additional battery. If you feel uncomfortable drilling into walls, Dyson has another storage solution for you – a self-standing charging station. It has room for any attachments, and no wall holes are required, but you must purchase it separately.
Battery Life
Battery Life | Eco mode: ≈ 76 mins |
Auto or Med mode: ≈ 36 mins | |
Boost mode: ≈ 9 mins | |
Charge Time | ≈ 3 hours |
The Dyson V11 has three cleaning modes: eco, auto (or med), and boost. In eco mode, the vacuum produces the weakest suction but can run longer, while with boost mode turned on, the vacuum drains the battery the fastest to create maximum suction.
The Dyson V11 is equipped with the Dynamic Load Sensor, allowing it to automatically adjust its suction depending on the type of surface being cleaned. So it’s very difficult to accurately estimate the battery life of the vacuum when it’s in auto mode. Note that once you replace the High Torque floorhead with some attachment, the auto mode will switch to the mid mode.
In most cases, having a spare battery on hand is essential, and it needs to be purchased separately.
Dust Cup and Filter System
Both the Dyson V11 Torque Drive vs Absolute share a 0.75-liter dust cup, which is smaller than the Dyson V11 Outsize dustbin (1.89 liters). Emptying their dust cups is easy but quite unusual: just grip a red lever on the side and do the up and down motion a few times until all the contents go.
All the Dyson V11 versions have a sealed system and a HEPA filter. If you suffer from severe allergies, you need a vacuum with a sealed system since it keeps dirt and allergens from escaping the vacuum before they are captured by the filter.
Utilities
Display Screen
The V11 Torque Drive features a handy LCD screen showing a run-time countdown and allows you to easily switch between three vacuuming modes: eco, auto, and boost. Better yet, it also shows you videos on maintaining the vacuum properly.
The V11 Animal is the only V11 version without an LCD screen. Instead, it sports a LED screen and does not have a real-time countdown timer. It still displays an estimated remaining running time as an illustrated icon.
On/Off Control
Regarding the on/off control system, instead of pressing a button to turn the machine on or off, the Dyson V11, on the other hand, requires keeping a trigger pressed during vacuuming. So the vacuum will stop operating as soon as you release the trigger. This continuous-hold system ensures you won’t waste any battery power unless you’re ready to vacuum, but it may seem inconvenient.
