To this day, the Dyson V11 remains one of the favorite Dyson sticks for neat freaks worldwide, and rightfully so. It boasts superior cleaning efficiency, includes a set of handy attachments, and isn’t as costly as its recent siblings in the Dyson family. The Dyson V11 comes in four variations, and in this post, I will throw the Dyson V11 Outsize vs V11 Animal into the ring for a head-to-head comparison.
The Dyson V11 Animal is the bare-bones model in the lineup, lacking the fancy LCD screen found in other variants. However, it still retains top-notch features like the Dynamic Load Sensor, an expansive dustbin, a wide range of attachments, and more.
On the flip side, the Dyson V11 Outsize is viewed as the bigger, bolder model with greater suction power, a supersized dust cup, and an expansive floorhead. These enhancements are certainly welcome, but they come with a trade-off – it’s a bit of a heavyweight, which can tire your arms during those long cleaning sessions.

Dyson V11 Outsize Vs V11 Animal: Differences
The Dyson V11 Outsize takes the lead against the V11 Animal, scoring 3-1 and drawing one. Stay tuned for more in-depth information!
Cleaning Performance
Winner: Tie
Suction Power & Floorhead
The V11 Animal can rev up to a peak suction power of 185 air watts (AW), while the V11 Outsize stands out as the only variant that can crank it up to a whopping 220 AW – which is very close to the Dyson V15 (230 AW).
Both the Dyson V11 Outsize vs V11 Animal come out of the box with a High Torque cleaner head, but the V11 Outsize comes with a new High Torque XL floorhead that’s 25% wider than the High Torque version accompanying the V11 Animal – this is both a blessing and a curse. A wider floorhead lets you tackle larger areas with fewer sweeps, shaving off some valuable vacuuming time. But on the flip side, it could make reaching tight areas more difficult.
Another important thing to mention is that these models don’t come with soft rollers like the Dyson V11 Absolute, which are designed to clean hard floors effectively. While this version is off the shelves in the US, you can still buy this roller separately.
Hard Floor
Although the models don’t have the fluffy floorhead attachment, they could still score high marks on all my tests. They scooped up almost all the debris, leaving behind just a smattering of fine detritus in their wake.
When the two gates on the floorhead are wide open (by nudging the slider to the “+” position), their clearance is high enough to gobble up all the larger debris. This is a pretty impressive feat considering most standard-nozzled vacuums would throw in the towel when faced with this sort of debris.
Carpet
Both models also put on a stellar performance on my carpets. With the turbo boost mode enabled, they effortlessly swept up 100% of the total debris, whether they were on the high-pile carpet or the low-pile variant. However, I’d strongly suggest switching to auto mode for a smoother glide over these surfaces.
Hair Test
These beasts also aced the hair-pickup test on my surfaces but didn’t do as well at untangling long hair strands exceeding 12 inches. But you’ll likely have a run-in with such lengthy strands only if the ladies in your house don’t get regular haircuts.
Battery Life
Winner: Dyson V11 Outsize
When teamed up with a non-motorized attachment (like a crevice or combination tool) and set to the lowest power, these machines could run for the advertised 60 minutes or even more. However, my tests revealed a chink in the armor – they fell short of the promised battery life when used with the floorhead.
Dyson V11 Outsize | Dyson V11 Animal | |
---|---|---|
Maximum Battery Life | ≈ 52 mins | ≈ 54 mins |
Minimum Battery Life | ≈ 8 mins | ≈ 9 mins |
Charging Time | ≈ 4 hours | ≈ 4 hours |
All these machines come equipped with swappable and interchangeable batteries. So if your abode is the size of a mansion or even a castle, keeping a spare battery in your arsenal would be a smart move. You can swap the battery for a fully juiced-up one via a simple button click, giving you almost another hour to carry on your cleaning spree.
The major point of divergence here is that the V11 Outsize comes out of the box with a pair of batteries. On the other hand, if you opt for the V11 Animal, you’ll need to shell out some extra dough for a backup battery to say goodbye to dead time.
Weight & Maneuverability
Winner: Dyson V11 Animal
The V11 Animal hits the scales at about 6.7 pounds, while the V11 Outsize is heavier at 7.85 pounds. Navigating them around obstacles is a breeze, courtesy of their swivel heads. Still, the V11 Outsize struggled to get in and out of tight areas because, as mentioned above, it has a wider floorhead.
The weight discrepancy between the two devices becomes glaringly obvious when carrying them up and down the stairs in their full form or using them as handheld vacuums to spruce up overhead areas. The V11 Outsize tends to be a bit of an arm workout, quickly tiring out my wrist and hand.
Both could easily go further under furniture thanks to their ability to lie completely flat and their low-profile floorheads. But it would be better if they were equipped with headlights to make it easier for me to spot dust and dirt lurking in those dimly lit spaces.
Dustbin
Winner: Dyson V11 Outsize
The Dyson V11 Outsize boasts a dustbin with a capacity of 1.9 liters, dwarfing the V11 Animal’s 0.76-liter dust cup by a whopping 150%. Naturally, a larger dust cup is a boon since it leads to fewer trips to the trash can.
Emptying these dust tanks is easy thanks to a mechanism called “point and shoot,” which requires just a downward push of a lever to eject all the contents into the trash bin. I had to do the up-and-down movement a few times to evict every last speck of dust and dirt.
User Interface
Winner: Dyson V11 Outsize
The V11 Outsize comes with a high-tech LCD screen that displays the battery level down to the minute and second and the current operating mode. Better yet, it offers tips on tackling blockages when they occur, making it a far more advanced user interface than the V11 Animal’s more rudimentary LED screen.
In contrast, the V11 Animal’s LED screen is relatively no-frills. It still delivers the same information, albeit in a more pared-down format. For instance, it represents the remaining battery life as an illustrative bar icon rather than providing a real-time countdown.
Dyson V11 Outsize Vs V11 Animal: Similarities
Attachments & Storage
Dyson V11 Outsize | Dyson V11 Animal |
---|---|
High Torque Xl Cleaner Head Crevice Tool Combination Tool Mini Soft Dusting Brush Stubborn Dirt Brush Mini Motorized Tool Docking Station & Charger Wand Storage Clip Removable Battery (x2) | High Torque cleaner head Mini Motorized Tool Combination tool Stubborn dirt brush Crevice tool Docking Station & Charger Wand clip Removable Battery (x1) |
Both the Dyson V11 Outsize vs V11 Animal aren’t well-balanced to stand on their own. So, they either need to lean on something or be docked into the included wall mount for storage and charging. This wall mount can accommodate two accessories, and two others will find a home on the vacuum’s body via a wand clip for easier access during vacuuming.
Are you not keen on drilling holes in your wall? No worries. Just hook the charger directly to the battery and find a secure corner for your vacuum and all the attachments.
Filtration System
The Dyson V11 Outsize vs V11 Animal share a fully-sealed system that guarantees all microscopic dust particles and allergens are incarcerated until they are captured by the HEPA filter. This feature ensures that the air circulating in your home remains fresh and devoid of allergens, making it a significant selling point for folks battling severe asthma when searching for a vacuum cleaner.
The HEPA filter is washable and can be used multiple times. After being rinsed under the tap, it must be thoroughly dried out, typically taking about 24 hours, before being put back into the vacuum. It’s crucial to remember that using a damp filter is a big no-no, as it can damage the vacuum and potentially void the warranty. So it might be a good idea to consider investing in a few extra filters to minimize downtime.
Utilities
Control Method
Both require holding down a pistol-like trigger for power. This mechanism is a bit of a double-edged sword — on the one hand, it helps optimize battery life, but on the other, it can lead to quick hand fatigue. It would be better if they were equipped with a trigger lock feature that can be found in the Tineco S11.
Auto Mode
In auto mode, the Dyson V11 can automatically adjust its suction based on surface type (detected by the Dynamic Load Sensor) for optimal performance. Specifically, this feature will increase suction on carpets and reduce it on hard floors. It’s worth noting that this sensor is inside the floorhead, so if you use the vacuum with an attachment instead, this mode will be replaced with “med” mode.
