Dyson Ball Animal vs Animal 2: Should You Spend Your Money On The Updated Model Or The Original One?

Are you searching for an upright vacuum to deep clean your home and your pet? Check out the debate of Dyson Ball Animal vs Animal 2 and find out which machine checks all your boxes!

The winner Dyson Ball Animal 2 is an updated version of the original (Dyson Ball Animal). Both models have a similar design but are slightly different in cleaning performance. Animal 2 has a suction power of 306 AW, which is the highest level of suction of any upright vacuum produced by Dyson. This allows it to suction effectively on both bare floors and remove pet hair.

The runner-up, Dyson Ball Animal, is also worth buying. It performs just as well as Animal 2 does in terms of cleaning hard floors and removing pet hair. But if your home has carpets, this product, although not performing particularly well, is still more suitable than Animal 2.

Dyson Ball Animal vs Animal 2: Differences

The Dyson Ball Animal vs Animal 2 shares more similarities than they are differences. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is a definite upgrade over the first-generation Animal, but they aren’t massively different. Dyson Ball Animal 2 won the match against the Dyson Ball Animal with a score of 2-1, with one win and a tie. Its stronger suction power is the deciding factor.

Cleaning Performance

The Winner: Dyson Ball Animal 2

Airwatts Rating

The suction power is the primary distinction between the Dyson Ball Animal and the Animal 2. However, it has a significant impact on the efficiency of the cleaning and makes all differences.

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is the strongest suction vacuum cleaner that Dyson or any one company offers. It has 306 AW of suction power. That’s significantly higher compared to the Dyson Ball Animal (245 AW). With this strong suction power, it performs perfectly in almost all of my tests.
However, excessive suction power is also a common complaint when users use this machine to vacuum carpets, especially high-pile carpets because it makes it may be impossible to push forward due to the strong suction.

The Dyson Ball Animal has a lower maximum suction power so it performs more effectively on carpets. It addresses issues of excessive suction, which were problematic on the Dyson Ball Animal 2, thanks to its lower suction power of 245 AW.

The following is a comparison of how well two different types of machines work on various floor surfaces.

Bare Floor Performance (Hardwood, Laminate, Tiles)

On bare floors, the Dyson Ball Animal 2 gives a satisfactory cleaning performance. It can clean up a variety of different forms of debris without any problems.

I also use the Dyson Ball Animal pretty frequently on hardwood floors. The primary floors in my house are tile and hand-scraped hardwood. I don’t know what else to say other than the fact that this machine is top on flat surfaces. I particularly enjoy how it automatically adjusts to any surface, which eliminates the need for me to change the settings whenever I go over carpets or rugs on my hard floors. In addition to that, I adore how simply turning my wrist may cause it to rotate through 90 degrees. But if you have dark floors in which the stain and sealer are not thick or if the dark floors were not of higher quality, it will scratch.

In any case, when it comes to the effectiveness of cleaning bare floors, I don’t see a significant difference between these two vacuums. Both of them get a perfect score from me of 10 on this test.

Low-Pile Carpet Performance

Dyson Ball Animal performs well on low-pile carpets
Dyson Ball Animal performs well on low-pile carpets

When it comes to cleaning low-pile carpets, both the Dyson Ball Animal and the Dyson Animal 2 are excellent choices. Their powerful suction motor enables them to quickly and effectively remove both tiny and large particles from low-pile carpets.

They perform as well on low-pile carpets as they do on hardwood floors. I have mentioned how much I appreciate not having to manually adjust the height on these machines.

High-Pile Carpet Performance

Dyson Ball Animal vacuums perform exceptionally well on low-pile carpets but might be challenging to maneuver on high-pile carpets. The manufacturer does not disclose this weak point in the product description, despite the fact that this vacuum cannot handle high-pile carpets. Even the smallest attempt to move would require a lot of force.

In addition, the Dyson Ball Animal should not be used on brand-new carpets. This vacuum was not able to handle the new plush carpet that I had placed in my living room. Its beater bar sank itself into the pile and began to clamp down. It would neither go forward nor backward. I was curious, so I tried it in a room that had an older carpet, and to my delight, it worked fine.

On this type of carpet, the Dyson Ball Animal 2 can be hard to push due to its strong suction force. I read some of the reviews saying it was impossible to push on the carpet and thought maybe they have new, plush carpets. The carpet at my home is 5 years old and is not plush. I figured I would have no problem cleaning this carpet using the Dyson Ball Animal 2. However, it has an even worse performance than the Dyson Ball Animal.

The suction is really strong, and if you ask me, it’s almost too much. It’s a very costly product that doesn’t even function properly if you buy this for only cleaning high-pile carpet purposes. You’ll face the same problem as everybody else.

Long Hairs and Pet Hair Performance

When it comes to dealing with pet hair, the Dyson Ball Animal and the Dyson Ball Animal 2 are both excellent options. They are able to remove hair from any surface without any difficulty. However, there is a possibility that a few strands of hair became entangled around the brushroll, and in that case, I will have to remove it manually. besides, the cleaning head isn’t designed to be removed completely from the vacuum, so untangling any hair can be a little bit more difficult.

Design & Convenience

The Winner: It’s a Tie!

Weight

If there is a difference in weight at all between the two vacuums, it is extremely minute and, in my opinion, insignificant. While the original Dyson Ball Animal weighs 17.0 pounds, the newer Dyson Ball Animal 2 weighs 17.5 pounds.

They do not qualify as lightweight uprights with those weights. Both of these things are considered to be on the heavier side, and you will feel that heaviness while you are lifting and moving them. Thankfully, they can more easily maneuver around obstructions thanks to a ball-shaped articulating mechanism.

Noise Level

I vacuum almost every day and I don’t want to be tortured by loud noises. But I’m aware that it’s unrealistic to expect vacuum cleaners to be both silent and have powerful suction. Both the original Dyson Ball Animal and its successor, the Dyson Ball Animal 2, have noise levels on the high side. While the Dyson Ball Animal produces 76 decibels, the Dyson Ball Animal 2 generates 78.1 decibels.

Despite the fact these noise levels are somewhat high, they are still within the range that I find tolerable and do not bother me.
