Check out my comparison of the Dyson Ball Animal 3 vs V15! Although both vacuums are extremely powerful and have very strong suction, they are differently-designed vacuums with unique features. Both of these vacuum cleaners will not disappoint you. However, read my comparison to determine which product is best suited to your needs.
The Dyson Ball Animal 3 is a corded upright vacuum cleaner, so it is the superior choice for extended cleaning sessions. It performs excellently on all types of surfaces, and in fact, it performs even better on carpets than its counterpart. Also, the machine’s anti-tangle floorhead is particularly resistant to hair wraps, making it ideal for cleaning pet hair.
The Dyson V15, on the other hand, is a cordless stick vacuum cleaner that is both lightweight and easy to maneuver, making it ideal for cleaning spaces that aren’t conveniently located near an electrical outlet. There’s a dirt sensor on board that monitors and counts particles being sucked into the vacuum. It can detect the surface beneath it to automatically alter its suction power to suit the surface.

Dyson Ball Animal 3 vs V15: Differences
This is a draw match between Dyson Ball Animal 3 vs V15. The Dyson Ball Animal 3 offers a performance that is satisfactory on all kinds of floors. You just need to pay a lower price than Dyson V15 for that. On the other hand, the Dyson V15 has a cordless design, a laser head, and a dirt sensor, making it more maneuverable and convenient than its competitors.
Cleaning Performance
The Winner: Tie
Floor (Bare Floor, Carpet) Performance – Dyson Ball Animal 3
Regarding cleaning performance, I am completely satisfied with Dyson Animal 3. The vacuum has powerful suction and will not leave any debris in its wake. With this model, I am able to effortlessly remove tiny to medium trash, such as dust, sand, pet hair, small cereals, and other debris that is usually found inside.
Even on high-pile carpets, Dyson Ball Animal 3 performs exceptionally well. Thanks to its adjustable floorhead and powerful suction motor, I had no trouble picking up everything from pet hair and fine debris to large debris. Still, you have to be very careful when vacuuming a very dense shag pile carpet because the piles can get stuck in the floorhead.
The Dyson V15 is, without a doubt, one of the best cordless vacuum cleaners available. It performs just as well as the Dyson Ball Animal 3 on hard floors and low-pile carpets.
For cleaning high-pile carpets, it is clearly inferior to the Dyson Ball Animal 3. Even with the suction gate on its floorhead partly open, this vacuum’s strong suction force still makes it hard to use or even move around on this surface type, which is pretty common for any vacuum. When dealing with shaggy fibers, almost no model can avoid the struggle.
If you find it too hard to move over carpet/rugs, follow these 3 steps:
- Set the motor sensitivity to low
- Adjust the motorhead to the minus symbol to life the little red gates
- Use “Eco” mode.
Unless your carpet has really high pile, that should solve your problem.
Stair Performance
The Dyson V15 is an excellent choice for cleaning the stairs in your home. It’s lightweight and reconfigurable, so you can use it as a handheld vacuum to clean longer staircases without switching outlets or stumbling over a power cord. It performs exceptionally well on bare floors as well as low and high-pile carpets, allowing you to simply clear dirt regardless of the surface type of your stairs.
Cleaning the stairs with Dyson Ball Animal 3 is just okay. Its upright body is a bit heavy and bulky, which makes it a little difficult to move around. Still, you can use it in a semi-handheld way by leaving it upright and cleaning it with its long hose, which lets you get to most hard-to-reach places.
It also has a long power cord, so you won’t have to switch outlets when you’re vacuuming stairs. Make sure you leave it on a stable surface so it doesn’t fall over.
Cars Performance
The Dyson V15 is a great option for cleaning the inside of your car. Thanks to its cordless design, it is simple to transform into a handheld vacuum cleaner that is light and relatively compact, and you do not need to worry about having to keep it in close proximity to an electrical outlet. It also includes a wide variety of tools and accessories, such as a crevice tool to clean messes in tight corners and a conical turbo brush to clean messes on car upholstery.
Due to its upright design, the Dyson Ball Animal 3 is not appropriate for vacuuming your car.
Design & Convenience
The Winner: Dyson V15
Noise Level
The Dyson V15 is not an overly loud vacuum. When used on bare floors with its soft roller floorhead, it won’t make much noise. However, when utilized with its multi-surface brushroll, particularly on carpets, where it automatically increase its suction power to the highest level when utilized in its ‘Auto’ mode, it is noticeably louder than when utilized with its standard brushroll.
- Bare Floor: 70.5 dBA
- Low-Pile Carpet: 71.0 dBA
The Dyson Ball Animal 3 is quite a bit louder than the Dyson V15, and the sound of it operating is sufficient to obscure most normal conversation.
- Bare Floor: 82.7 dBA
- Low-Pile Carpet: 79.1 dBA
Weight and Maneuverability
The Dyson V15 is a stick vacuum, so it goes without saying that it is much lighter and easier to maneuver than the Dyson Ball Animal 3. Because it only weighs 6.8 pounds, this model is extremely easy to transport from one room to another, as well as up and down stairs. Additionally, the Dyson V15 makes it simple to go further under the furniture, something that the Dyson Ball Animal 3 cannot do.
The Dyson Ball Animal 3 is much heavier than the Dyson V15. Because of its weight, which is approximately 18 pounds, using it and moving it around is similar to doing cardio exercises. Take special note of this Dyson Ball Animal 3 characteristic if you suffer from weak wrists or bad backs.
Range
This area is where the Dyson Ball Animal 3 vs Dyson V8 presents the most obvious difference, as the first one is a corded vacuum while the other is cordless.
The Dyson Ball Animal 3 features a 35-foot power cord, which is really long. It helps me take the vacuuming job without plugging and unplugging too many times.
Since the Dyson V15 is a cordless vacuum, it is powered by a rechargeable battery rather than an extension cord. It is cordless, so there is no need to worry about finding an outlet or carrying it around the house. It is also portable, so you can take it outside.
When it comes to the Dyson V15, I assumed that a product of this price point would have a respectable battery life. The performance of the battery on the Dyson V15 is satisfactory. It can run for more than 70 minutes in “Eco” mode with no attachments. However, if you run it continuously in “Boost” mode with the motorized head, it will only run for less than 10 minutes, so you’ll need to clean up tough messes quickly.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that the battery life of the auto-adjusting “Auto” mode can vary greatly depending on the surface you’re cleaning.
Unfortunately, the charging time for this vacuum is under four hours, which is a considerable amount of time. However, the battery can be removed, and if necessary, you can either replace it or purchase additional ones.
Dirt Bin & Filtration
The Winner: Dyson Ball Animal 3
The Dyson Ball Animal 3 has a dust bin that is 0.32 gal in capacity. In the meantime, the dust bin on the Dyson V15 can only hold up to 0.12 gal of dirt, and I had to empty it anywhere from three to four times during each cleaning session.
Both come equipped with high-quality filters, one of which is a HEPA filter. Therefore, when they are vacuumed, they are able to capture almost all of the dust and allergens that are in the air, which is beneficial for people who suffer from allergies. Even better, they can be washed, which will cut down on maintenance costs.
Utilities
The Winner: Dyson V15
Controls
On the Dyson Animal 3, you can change the head height and its suction force by adjusting the slider that is located on the front of the Motorbar. The leftmost setting is used for cleaning embedded dirt and debris and hard floor, the setting in the center is for cleaning solid debris from low-pile carpets, and the rightmost setting is optimized for cleaning high-pile carpets.
When it comes to the Dyson V15, you have the option of selecting from three different power modes: the energy-efficient ‘Eco’ mode, the high-suction ‘Boost’ mode, and the ‘Auto’ mode. If you have the vacuum set to the “Auto” mode, it will adjust the suction so that it is stronger or weaker depending on whether you are vacuuming carpets or hard floors. Which I really liked, and it really does maximize the battery life.
Laser Head
Only the Dyson V15 comes with this handy laser head. The laser on the soft roller is positioned in a way to highlight dust and hair on hard floors. I was prepared to call this feature a gimmick. I mean how much better could a green laser be than one of the many vacuums out there with led headlights?
But when I used it, I found that it did seem to make a difference, even in decent lighting. I could see stuff that I don’t think I would have otherwise been able to. Especially under furniture in some of those darker places. I have to say it did make vacuuming hard floors more satisfying.
Just a quick note: this is only on the fluffy head not on the regular torque head.
Dirt Sensor
The Dyson15 took it a step further and added a dirt sensor that also adjusts the suction based on how dirty the floors are. If it senses dirt being heavier than normal in a given area it will adjust the suction up or down based on that.
This is another new feature that I think is very important because it results in a better overall cleaning job with better overall battery optimization. And you don’t have to think about anything, just put it in “Auto” mode.
Alternative Configuration
You can convert the Dyson V15 into a handheld vacuum cleaner by detaching the wand and floorhead from the rest of the vacuum. It is very light, easily maneuverable, and can be controlled with just one hand when it is configured in this way.
You can also use the Dyson Ball Animal 3 in a semi-handheld configuration. But you have to leave it completely upright and then the suction will be diverted through the wand.
Price & Value For Money
The Winner: Dyson Ball Animal 3
What does the Dyson Animal Ball 3 have to offer, other than a lower price point, that makes its value more desirable than that of the V15? For me, the most important deciding factors are the suction power and the cleaning performance of this product. It exceeded my expectations in cleaning the bare floors, cars, and pet hair.
Even though it’s bulkier and more difficult to maneuver, I don’t mind either of those things because the price is a lot lower than that of the Dyson V15. I’m willing to make that tradeoff.
Dyson V15 has some great features that Animal Ball 3 can’t beat, like its slim, lightweight frame that makes it easy to move around and slide under furniture. It’s much easier to move around the house and lift the cleaner to clean the stairs without having to switch to different outlets. You can use it to clean outside because it’s compact and cordless.
