Dyson Ball Animal 3 vs Shark NV752: I gave the winning ticket to the first one.

If you’re struggling with the mess your four-legged friends left behind, you’ll be better off with the Dyson Ball Animal 3. But given such a high price, it should have more utilities.

The Shark NV752 is lightweight and easy to handle, especially if it is used in lift-away mode. It may be a good vacuum for those who don’t have any pets, but it’s really not ideal for pet owners as it has no self-cleaning brush roll.

Dyson Ball Animal 3 vs Shark NV752: Differences

The Dyson Ball Animal 3 wins 2-1 and draws one against the Shark NV752. The winner has a better overall cleaning performance thanks to the amazingly strong suction and the hair removal system in the floorhead. It also has a large dust cup and a longer cord, all adding to its convenience. But this machine would be better if it had some nice features like LED headlights and a cord receiver.

Cleaning Performance

Winner: Dyson Ball Animal 3

The Shark NV752’s suction power is good but not impressive enough to be a selling point. It is still effective at sucking up small-to-large debris, although it might take an extra pass to suck up things. I’d compliment its power, but I would score it higher if hair didn’t get stuck in its brush like crazy.

like all vacuums without a self-cleaning brush roll, the Shark NV752 didn’t work well with long hair. It wasn’t bad, but it couldn’t avoid winding hair in its roller. After just one test session, I had to clean the brush roller because a large amount of hair ended up on it.

On the other hand, the Dyson Ball Animal 3 has a reputation for generating insanely strong suction. Needless to say, it allows you to remove anything from both hard floors and carpets, including unwanted things like Lego blocks or coins. Pushing and pulling this machine on carpets, especially high-pile ones, is a daunting task. But you can reduce the suction by toggling a slider on the floorhead.

The hair removal system is the icing on the cake of the Dyson Ball Animal 3. My testing showed that it sent a lot of sucked-in hair into its dust cup and left only a small amount of longer hair in its roller. Then I just used a pair of scissors to cut and remove the rest with minimal effort.

Design and Usability

Winner: Tie

Weight and Maneuverability

The Dyson Ball Animal 3 weighs 17.4 lbs, so this model seems to be designed with strong guys in mind. The ball-shaped mechanism makes it easy to move this vacuum around obstacles. But unless you want the daily cleaning chores to help you burn calories and lose weight, you won’t want to struggle with shoving this beast around on a daily basis.

The Shark NV752 weighs 15.4 lbs. It’s lighter than the Dyson Ball Animal 3 but still on the heavy side. So maneuvering it can take a few drops of sweat, which is quite annoying. The advanced swivel steering may feel awkward for some initially, but once they get used to it, they’ll see how useful it is for maneuvering the vacuum.

Range

The cord lengths of the Dyson Ball Animal 3 vs Shark NV752 are 35 feet and 30 feet, respectively. To my mind, anything longer than 30 feet is enough to clean any large area without unplugging and plugging in too many times. Note that these cords are not retractable, and wrapping them manually can be a bit tedious and awkward.

Dust Cup Capacity And Filters

Winner: Dyson Ball Animal 3

The dust cup of the Dyson Ball Animal 3 can hold up to 1.28 quarts of dirt, whereas the NV752 comes with a 0.88-quart dirt bin. They are both large and don’t require to be emptied frequently. It is a breeze to empty them, but they are quite narrow, so you sometimes need to use your hands to get rid of large debris or tangled hair.

What the Dyson Ball Animal 3 vs Shark NV752 have in common is the HEPA filter, which is known for trapping up to 99.97% of the dust, dirt, and allergens in the air. They are washable, and you should rinse them whenever you find them dirty to prolong their life and maintain the machine’s good suction.

Special Features

Winner: Shark NV752

LED Lights

The Shark NV752 has LED headlights on the base, which are very bright and easily illuminate what you’re cleaning in any dark corners. As a bonus, the wand also has a light, which allows you to see what you are vacuuming when using the NV752 in its semi-handheld configuration.

The Dyson Ball Animal 3, on the other hand, lacks this nifty feature, which should be a must-have for such an expensive model.

Alternate Configuration

The NV752 features something called “powered lift-away,” so it can be used as a semi-handheld vacuum to clean hard-to-reach areas or a stick vacuum to go further under furniture.

Powered lift-away feature

Better yet, it can transform into a portable canister with its powered floorhead using the caddy, making cleaning all over your home easier. But note that Shark has stopped delivering the caddy with this model as of 2017, so you will need to purchase this part separately.

The Dyson Ball Animal 3 has no alternate configuration, and the only way to vacuum hard-to-reach areas is to use its wand and attachment and leave its body completely upright. Just note that it is prone to flipping in this state.

Controls

There is a slider on the NV752’s handle that is used to change between three settings: hardwood, low pile carpet, and high pile carpet, and the writing is upside down so you can easily read it when vacuuming. This is a huge improvement over the older Shark uprights, which have a switch on the body, and you need to bend over your knees to press it every time you switch from one surface to another.

The Dyson Ball Animal 3 has a small slider on its floorhead that can be used to change the suction level. The far left setting is for hard floors, the center position is for low-pile carpets, and the rightmost position is for high-pile carpets. In addition, it has a button on the body that you press to turn the roller on or off when you need to vacuum the bare floor or deep clean the carpet.
