This post will be about the Bissell 2252 vs 2998 comparison, in which I will demonstrate all the differences between these vacuums for pet owners. In brief, I prefer the Bissell 2998 to 2252.
The Bissell 2998 MultiClean has impressive suction for effective picking up deep dirt and can be adjusted. Additionally, it has a tangle-free brush roll to reduce the hair-wrap issue, a brush roll on/off switch, a good sealed HEPA filtration, and bright LED headlights. It also has a decent 30 ft. cord length and a detachable pod for easy carrying. Though it is quite heavy to pull back and forth, I am still pleased with its cleaning performance and convenience.
Meanwhile, the Bissell 2252 is a lighter vacuum with strong suction, but its suction cannot be modified. Besides, it has a triple-action brush roll with scatter-free technology, resulting in less debris scattering and less tangled hair. However, its brush roll cannot be shut off, even in the upright position, inducing the risk of damaging cleaning surfaces. It has a 5-setting adjustable nozzle height, but its cord is quite short. Overall, Bissell 2252 is a good vacuum with a more affordable price than its rival.

The Bissell 2998 wins 4-0 against the Bissell 2252 in this comparison. Particularly, the Bissell 2998 MultiClean Lift-off offers better cleaning performance, more advanced filtration, more convenience, and bright LED headlights. Meanwhile, the Bissell 2552 CleanView Swivel has greater attachments.

Suction power and control

I can say that they both have impressive suction power because they pick up deep dirt and hair out of the nooks and crannies!
In terms of the suction control, you can adjust the suction on the Bissell 2998. Meanwhile, on the Bissell 2252, this feature is not equipped. The suction adjustment for the Bissell 2998 can be accessed using the Carpet Type Control slider located on the handle.
- Air flow indicator
The Bissell 2252 has the Suction Indicator, which will let you know if there is something blocking the air path and causing the suction loss by turning red. In this case, all you need to do is to check the brush roll, the filtration, and the hose and get them cleaned.
Meanwhile, on the Bissell 2998, the suction indicator is removed. I think it is because they change the design of the pod. Yet, if you perform good and regular maintenance, the lack of an airflow indicator on the Bissell 2998 is not a significant concern.
Brush roll system
In my opinion, the brush roll of the Bissell 2998 is fairly better than that of the Bissell 2252. Let’s go into detail about their differences.
- Bissell 2252:
The Bissell 2252 has a triple-action brush roll system, which the brand claims can prevent hair wrap. However, the hair still gets tangled easily with this brush roll, but the amount is not as much as that wrapping on the traditional brush roll.
Besides, the brush roll of the Bissell 2252 model cannot be turned off even when it is locked in the upright position (while the vacuum is being operated). As I often mentioned in my reviews that the impossibility of turning off the brush roll could reduce the pick-up performance due to the scattering of debris and cause damage to the cleaning surface.
However, the Bissell 2252 brush roll is designed with anti-scattering technology, which is good for reducing debris scattering. A small squeegee located behind the brush roll helps to block the scattered debris, creating a better seal on hard floors. Therefore, the brush roll system is decent for cleaning a whole house.
- Bissell 2998:
The annoyance of hair tangle and debris scattering is all solved with the upgraded brush roll of the Bissell 2998. Particularly, thus model’s brush roll is designed with tangle-free technology, getting the brush roller free of hair up to 98%. I tested it on my carpet full of my dog hair; only a little amount of longer hair (~1-2%) stays on the brush roll, and the rest goes all into the dirt bin.
Moreover, its brush beater bar is auto-off in the upright position while operating, which I really appreciate as it will not chew up my carpet while the hose is utilized. Additionally, the brushroll on/off switch is equipped on this vacuum model, allowing you to shut off the brush roll for suction-only mode when cleaning the bare floor. Thus, debris scattering on hard, bare floors is perfectly addressed.
Nozzle-height adjustment
The nozzle height of the Bissell 2252 Swivel Pet can be manually adjusted by 5 settings; meanwhile, that of the Bissell 2998 is modified automatically using the Carpet Type Control slider on the handheld.
I prefer the adjustable nozzle height functionality on the Bissell 2252 to the one on the Bissell 2998 model. The adjustment on Bissell 2998 is insignificant to see the real difference. I mean, the Carpet Type Control slider effectively controls the suction power instead of the vacuum head height. However, on the Bissell 2252, when changing the height levels, I can really tell the difference between each level.
Moreover, the height increase of the cleaning head can help reduce the interaction of the brush bristles with the cleaning surfaces, which is useful for the vacuum that cannot be turned off the brush roll. So, when using the hose of Bissell 2252, I often increase the head height to the maximum.
Floor-type compatibility
These two vacuums of Bissell are compatible with hard and carpeted surfaces. However, each model still presents some minor issues.
Particularly for the Bissell 2252, the spinning bristles that are unable to disengage may destroy some types of rugs, such as wool rugs, as they could fray and suck the fiber and even pull strands from other weaves. So, I prefer using the Bissell 2252 with the highest nozzle setting.
In the case of the Bissell 2998, as it has strong suction, it can be a little difficult to push on thicker, dense carpets. Besides the strong suction, another factor that makes this vacuum sometimes hard to push on such carpets is that its nozzle height cannot be adjusted manually like the one on Bissell 2252. However, modifying its suction power may help in this case.
Aside from these problems, they can impressively pull embedded dirt, dander, and pet hairs from different types of floors.
Dirt bin & Filtration

If comparing the specifications on paper between Bissell 2252 vs 2998, the dirt bin capacity to the fill line of Bissell 2998 is a bit smaller than that of the Bissell 2252. However, I see no obvious difference in their dirt bin, so this difference is minor.
The significant difference between them is in the filtration. All of them feature a multi-filter system, but on the Bissell 2998, the HEPA post-motor filter with the allergen seal is added. I really appreciate that Bissell provided the sealed HEPA filtration to their later vacuum products. Such advanced filtration can effectively trap all dust, from large to micro, in the machine. In other words, the dust that the vacuum picked up will not come out with the released air.
For that reason, when choosing a suitable vacuum, besides the price, the filtration also matters, especially for those who are sensitive to dust particles. Therefore, in this round, I give one point to the Bissell 2998 and zero to the 2252 model though it has a little bigger dirt bin capacity.

The Bissell 2252 is lighter than the 2298, as shown in the comparison chart. The heavier vacuum often makes it hard to push and pull on carpets, but the good side is that it can stay balanced on the floor when the hose is stretching.

Both machines feature great swivel heads. After testing many vacuums, I would say that the swivel steering feature is very practical for our cleaning tasks. The swivel joint allows you to effortlessly navigate the vacuum cleaners around wall corners and furniture, thus alleviating pressure on your wrist. Besides, swiveling the cleaning head can effectively support sucking large particles.
- Lift-off canister
This is one of the noticeable differences between Bissell 2252 vs 2998. The 2298 features a detachable pod for easy carrying to clean the stairs, while the pod of Bissell 2252 is fixed to the base. Thus, the Bissell 2298 offers greater portability than the Bissell 2252.
- Reach range
The Bissell 2998 offers greater reach than the Bissell 2252 owing to its longer cord and hose. Specifically, the 2998 has a 30 ft. cord and 7 ft. hose, while those of the 2252 are 25 ft. and 6 ft., respectively.

The Bissell 2998 has LED headlights, whereas the Bissell 2252 does not. The LED lights on the cleaning head of the Bissell 2998 are very bright and direct, efficiently illuminating the hidden dirt and hairs I often missed, especially in dark areas.

The included accessories of Bissell 2252 are greater in quantity compared to that of the Bissell 2998. Let’s take a look at the attachment set of each model in the table below:
