Bissell 2252 vs 2254: Which One Is Better For Your Choice?

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

If you are wondering which to choose between Bissell 2252 vs 2254, I think this article will help you make a decision. I have had the opportunity to test both upright vacuum cleaners, and they really work well. However, for me, Bissell 2254 still has a better performance.

The 2254 wins thanks to improvements in design, such as dirt cup capacity, cord length, hose length, and automatic cord rewind function. This machine can work well on various surfaces due to its 5 surface height adjustment settings.

The 2252 runner-up is still a great vacuum cleaner. It is very inexpensive and comes with a pretty decent attachment that you don’t usually find in many other vacuum cleaners in this price range, including a suction booster.

Bissell 2252 vs 2254: Differences

After considering the performance of these two upright vacuums, I concluded that the Bissell 2254 wins 3:0 and ties 1 against Bissell 2252. For more details, please check out the breakdown below.

cleaning performance

The winner: Bissell 2254

Compatible Floor Type

Both upright vacuum cleaners perform well on hard floors. First of all, you can adjust the height of the cleaning head to match the surface environment. Based on my experience, I recommend adjusting the height setting to “medium,” since it is suitable for almost any surface or type of debris without scattering debris.

Next, the cleaning head of each machine is also designed with a little squeegee to help create a cushion when the machine works on hard floors. This is also crucial, especially when you want to vacuum hard floors without scattering debris or turning off the brush roll. Besides, the machine’s wheels are also covered with a rubber layer that helps them move smoothly on hard floors without clacking and screwing into your floor.

As for the ability to vacuum the carpet, these two machines also work quite effectively. Their soft bristle brushes work very well on carpets, so many hairs and pet hair are easily pulled out. Depending on the type of carpet, you will need to select the height setting type. The lowest setting is for vacuuming low-pile carpets. The medium setting is for medium and optimal carpets, while the highest setting is usually suitable for high-pile carpets.

Pet Hair Performance

Both the Bissell 2252 and 2254 are designed to cater to pet owners. When you buy the machine, you will receive many accessories for cleaning pet hair, such as a suction-based turbo pet brush, crevice tool, pet hair corner tool, and so on. Their cleaning heads are all designed with soft bristle brushes that effectively remove pet hair from all surfaces.

I tried using Bissell 2254 to suck cat hair on my Turkish polypropylene rug, and the results exceeded my expectations. This machine works really well, and the carpet covered with cat hair before is now back to its original color.

However, there is a small problem that I think you should be aware of. While these two machines are very effective at removing pet hair, sucking hair often gets stuck and twisted around the brush roll. Therefore, after each vacuuming and emptying the dust bin, I recommend you check the brush roll to see if there is a lot of cat hair stuck there.

Noise Level

All vacuums have some noise, right? What surprised me was that the Bissell 2254 was not as noisy as I had imagined. The noise level of this machine is average, meaning you can still vacuum and normally talk at the same time without having to raise your voice.

As for the Bissell 2252, this machine is a bit noisier than average, with a measured noise level of about 84 dB. This level is comparable to the noise of a diesel truck. However, the noise level can vary more or less depending on the surface on which the machine is operating.

design and convenience

The winner: Bissell 2254

Build Quality

Bissell 2252 and 2254 are almost the same size. The 2254 is about 2 feet taller than the 2252 and also weighs about 1 pound more than its rival. To me, these differences are insignificant. Best of all, they’re all pretty light, and you can easily move them around the house for cleaning.

They are also really simple to assemble right out of the box. Get a screwdriver to attach the handle and hook up the hose, and you’re done. It took less than 5 minutes to assemble the machine fully.

Range

Comparing the ranges of the two machines, Bissell 2254 offers a wider range of movement than its opponent.

While Bissell 2252 has a power cord length of 25 feet, the power cord of the Bissell 2254 is 2 feet longer. Same with hose length; the hose length of the 2254 is 8 feet, while that of the 2252 is 6 feet.

When it comes to the length of the power cord, the longer the cord, the wider the range of movement of the machine, which is especially handy if you need to clean up in places with few electrical outlets. In the meantime, the long hose will help you vacuum objects far away, especially when you need to sweep large objects that the main cleaning head cannot.

dirt tank & filter

Tie

Dirk Tank

Both of these Bissell models are bagless. Instead of using filter bags, these two machines come with dirt cups that combine Multi-Cyclonic cleaning technology. This technology prolongs the performance of the canister vacuum cleaner and keeps the filter clean for longer.

The dirt tank size of the two machines is the same, and both are 1 liter. The dirt that is sucked in will stay in it, and after you’re done vacuuming, you need to empty the dust container, and you’re done. The dirt container is easy to empty and includes no hard-to-clean parts.

Filter

This pair shares the same Multi-Level Filtration system. Personally, I do not find anything too outstanding or different between the filtering capabilities of these two machines. What I want to mention here is that they are all without HEPA filtration. This can be seen as one of the unfortunate points that I found in these two models. The HEPA filter is one of the most effective types that can capture up to 99.9% of the dirt inside the vacuum cleaner. As a result, the dust sucked in will be retained mostly inside the machine and not returned to the outside environment. This is especially helpful for those with sinusitis or allergies.

However, if you consider the overall list of upright vacuums in this price range, most of them do not have a HEPA filter. Therefore, this is an acceptable defect.

Additional Feature

The winner: Bissell 2254

Despite sharing many similar utilities, such as an airflow indicator, a swivel head, and dual edge cleaning, there will still be some small differences between these two machines. Typically, automatic cord rewind is a feature that you only find on the Bissell 2254.

The automatic cord rewind function allows you to neatly store the cord without wrapping it. To use the cord, gently pull it out and stop when the yellow band is visible on the cord. Do not pull the power cord beyond the red line. To rewind the cord, hold the end of the cord and press the automatic rewind button located on the lower side of the unit. Guide the cord so that it gently fits back into the machine. As for the Bissell 2252, you have to wrap the cord manually.
