Are there any differences between Shark IZ840H Vs IZ862H Stratos? My answer is yes, but not significant. The differences are colors, attachments, and the odor-neutralizer feature.
Particularly, the wand and filer cover of Shark IZ862H has an Ash Purple color while those of the Shark IZ840H are in Rose Gold color. Additionally, the Shark IZ862H has more attachments and is the only version featuring the odor-neutralizer. So, if you are looking for greater utility and a nice odor in the expelled air, the Shark IZ862H is a great option to consider.
Apart from that, both Shark IZ840H and IZ862H Stratos have similar suction power and cleaning performance. Overall, they can deal with different types and sizes of debris pretty well. Their HEPA filtration is completely sealed, and their dust cup has sufficient capacity and is easy to dump. In brief, they satisfy all my general cleaning requirements, but it would be better if they improved the battery life.

Shark IZ840H Vs IZ862H: Differences
The Shark IZ862H wins 1-0 against the IZ840H version because it has greater utility for the additional attachments and odor neutralizer.
Utility
Winner: Shark IZ862H
Often, I evaluate the utility category based on whether the vacuum product has headlights and enough attachment for multi-surface cleaning. After researching, I can conclude that the Shark IZ862H version is the winner of this round because it has the same bright LED headlight as the Shark IZ840H but with more accessories and an additional odor neutralizer cartridge.
In particular, they all have LED headlights on the cleaner head, which is useful for cleaning in dark areas such as under furniture or in storage places. However, the Shark IZ862H comes with two attachments, including a Duster Crevice Tool and an Anti-Allergen Brush. Meanwhile, the IZ840H only includes a crevice tool, and you need to purchase other accessories separately.
Moreover, the duster crevice tool included in the Shark IZ862H box is a combination of a dusting brush and the crevice tool. This means the tool can be used to clean cracks, crevices, and other flat surfaces like tables and blinds. Therefore, I found that the included set of accessories of the Shark IZ862H is enough for my daily cleaning intervals.
Besides, the Shark IZ862H has an odor neutralizer cartridge, which provides a better and fresher smells to the house. This is additionally useful for households with pets as the unpleasant odors are effectively removed from the expelled air. So, if you have pets, the vacuum product with odor neutralizer technology like the Shark IZ862H would give a more satisfying cleaning result, in my opinion.
Shark IZ840H Vs IZ862H: Similarities
Generally, the Shark IZ840H and IZ862H are nearly identical to each other because they are in the same IZ800H series. Apart from the mentioned differences, the cleaning performance, dust cup, filtration system, and design are similar.
Cleaning performance
Suction
The Shark IZ840H and IZ862H feature the same motor head with a power of 309 W, so I believe they have the same suction power. The power suction I measured by airflow (cfm) for the Shark IZ862H with the cleaner head is about 42 cfm. So, the Shark IZ840H is supposed to have the same amount of airflow.
Besides, these two Shark cordless vacuums have 3 modes of suction, including Eco, Boost, and Clean Sense IQ. The Eco mode has the lowest suction power for gentle cleaning, while the Boost mode gives the strongest suction, suitable for deep cleaning. However, the Boost mode drains the battery very quickly, so I just use it for deep cleaning of a small area.
The Clean Sense IQ mode is the one I use most. The IQ sense technology of the Shark IZ862H and IZ840H, according to my preference, makes the cleaning more convenient and effective. In this mode, the suction of the vacuum is automatically adjusted depending on the detected debris density. If you use the vacuum to clean a dusty area, the suction is increased and then automatically decreased when the area is clean.
Therefore, when using the Clean Sense IQ mode, I can vacuum without any concerns about whether I need to increase the suction level. Besides, I found that this mode contributes to optimizing the battery life in addition to the cleaning efficiency.
Multi-surface cleaning
I can say that both of them can easily move from carpet to bare floor and vice versa. Their duo-roller cleaner heads allow them to work very well on both carpeted and hard floors. The front roller is a soft brush, which is considered ideal for cleaning bare floors. Meanwhile, the other roller is the fins roller, which will be useful for cleaning the carpet as it provides sufficient surface agitation to loosen the dirt.
Testing their pick-up efficiency on bare floors and carpets, they pick up pretty much anything I throw on the floor, even the large debris like kibbles and cheerios that many cordless vacuums are struggled with. Moreover, they are especially good with dust and other light stuff like garlic skins and fine seasoning particles.
Additionally, they are pretty good at deep carpet cleaning owing to the great suction. To get the best cleaning result on carpets, I run the vacuum slowly and use the Clean Sense IQ mode. However, they are not ideal for cleaning area rugs because the rugs are often sucked up.
In terms of cleaning pet hair, I believe they are a good option to purchase. Besides the strong suction, they have self-cleaning brush rolls, which reduces the amount of hair getting tangled on the brush rollers. After one cleaning, I noticed that the hair staying on the brush roll was about 1-2%, very impressive!
Dust bin & Filtration
The Shark IZ840H and IZ862H have enough dust cup capacity to spare in one cleaning, which is about 0.72 dry quarts (~0.68 liters).
Besides, the filtration system of these vacuums is excellent. They have the HEPA filter and Anti-Allergen Complete Seal technology, allowing the vacuums to filter and capture about 99.99% micro dust and allergens inside. Therefore, they are suitable for people with asthma and allergies.
Design & Convenience
Maneuverability
Their total weight is about 8.9 lbs, which is relatively heavier than average, so it wears out my arms when holding these vacuums during the long cleaning time. However, with the duo-brushroll system of the cleaner head, I don’t need to change the cleaner head when switching between different surfaces.
Both Shark IZ862H and IZ840H can be used as handheld vacuums by detaching the wand to use with included cleaning tools. Therefore, I can use them to clean the stairs and even clean out my car with less effort.
Additionally, these two vacuums feature multiflex technology, allowing the wand to be easily bent to get under beds and furniture conveniently. For me, this is a useful feature for people with mobility or back problems because I don’t need to bend all the way down while cleaning under my sofas.
Battery
Though the brand states that the Shark Stratos models have a max runtime of up to 50-60 mins, the actual battery life is shorter. The longest running time I can get when using the Shark Stratos IZ862H or IZ840H with the main cleaner heads was about 45 mins in the ECO modes. In the Clean Sense IQ modes, the runtime was around 25-30 mins, depending on how dusty the floors were. In the Boost mode, the battery lasts about 10 mins.
While I said that Clean Sense IQ is effective at enhancing the battery life, it is beneficial to have an additional battery, especially if you have a large house (>1000 square feet) with a lot of furniture. If your house is about 1000 square feet or less and mainly open spaces, you can get away with one battery because the debris sensor does not require frequent high-power usage.
