Carrying these bad boys up and down the stairs didn’t faze me, but it can make the physically weak huff and puff. Here’s a tip for them: take off the floorhead from the vacuum, and the overall weight will be reduced, making it a breeze to haul the vacuum up those steps!
These models can transform into portable handheld vacuums. In this nifty configuration, they become more compact and lightweight, perfect for tackling stairs, furniture surfaces, and those pesky, hard-to-reach areas. However, when cleaning the bookshelf and ceiling, the full weight of the vacuum rested in my hand, making it quickly get tired, and I had to switch hands a few times.
When it comes to getting under furniture for a thorough clean, it’s a breeze—unless you’re dealing with back problems. If you’re elderly, dealing with back pain, or simply not keen on crouching down, you may need the help of a low-reach adaptor. But this mighty battery life only rings true if you pair the vacuum with a non-motorized tool and keep it running on the gentlest power setting. That’s why hitting claimed battery life is pretty much like chasing a rainbow. I put each to the test using the multi-surface roller, and here’s what I found out:

When used with the main nozzle, the machines failed to achieve their bragged-about runtimes but were still impressive. I bet a full charge could tackle a small to medium-sized house without a problem. But having two batteries on hand would be a smart move if you’re dwelling in a mammoth-sized house.
The Dyson V11 Outsize comes out of the box with two batteries, so once the installed battery dies, just swap it out with a fully juiced-up one and get back to work. On the other hand, the Dyson V15 includes only one battery, so you’ll need to shell out for a second one if you think it’s necessary.

Suction Power & Floorhead
Operating at their maximum power settings, the Dyson V15 and V11 Outsize can reach impressive suction power of up to 230 AW and 220 AW, respectively – the difference is negligible. They are currently the most powerful Dyson cord-free sticks.
The Dyson V15 boasts two cleaning heads: Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head and Digital Motorbar cleaner head. I was impressed with the Laser Slim Fluffy floorhead, which has a lower profile than the previous-generation Fluffy floorhead and features a small laser light.
On the other hand, the V11 Outsize has a High Torque Xl Cleaner Head, which is wider than the Dyson V15’s floorheads. I consider this both a blessing and a curse since it helps to cover a larger area faster with fewer passes, but it may pose challenges when maneuvering in narrow spaces or tight corners.

Both models performed admirably on my hard floor and got very high scores across the board. The Dyson V15, with the Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head, easily picked up all the debris during the initial pass, resulting in a flawlessly clean floor. Likewise, the Dyson V11 Outsize left only approximately 2% of large debris and 99% of small ones behind, necessitating an additional pass to eliminate everything.

The Dyson V15 demonstrated its supremacy by effortlessly collecting all large debris on both low-pile and high-pile carpets, leaving behind only a negligible amount of smaller particles. Similarly, the V11 Outsize also effortlessly captured almost all the debris, and the remaining remnants were easily eliminated during another pass.
Hair Test
Both the Dyson V15 Vs V11 Outsize easily picked up all the hair scattered across surfaces, but the former took the lead due to its superior tangle resistance. Nothing stayed on its soft roller, and its multi-surface brush roll also did a great job of sending the majority of vacuumed hair into its dustbin, thanks to polycarbonate teeth.

As mentioned in the intro, one of the main selling points of the V11 Outsize is its gigantic dustbin, boasting an impressive capacity of up to 1.89 liters. On the other hand, the Dyson V15’s dust cup is noticeably smaller at 0.75 liter – It’s like comparing a jumbo-sized popcorn bucket to a regular-sized cup! So the V11 Outsize definitely picks up some brownie points with those who want to do extended cleaning sessions without frequent emptying.
These machines share the “Point and Shoot” emptying mechanism: simply depress a lever on the side to send all accumulated dust and dirt directly into the trash. You can do the up-and-down motion a few times to ensure nothing is left, sparing you the inconvenience of manually removing what remains.
I’m also glad that these models are equipped with a fully-sealed filtration system, which leaves no chance for dirt and allergens to escape before they are successfully trapped by the filters. This feature, no doubt, is a godsend for individuals battling asthma or severe allergies.
The filters incorporated in these models are reusable and necessitate cleaning whenever the LCD screen issues an alert. To accomplish this, simply rinse the filter under a running tap and then allow a minimum drying period of 24 hours before reconnecting it to the machine. Refraining from using the filter in a damp state is crucial since this can potentially inflict damage on the vacuum cleaner and consequently nullify the warranty.

The V15’s display is even a bit more modern. It not only presents the above information but also categorizes and counts vacuumed dust particles, illustrating this data via a visually comprehensible bar graph. While some may perceive this feature as superfluous, I beg to differ. It offers insight into the cleanliness of a given area, informing me whether or not additional vacuuming time is warranted for a more thorough cleanup.
Auto Mode
The Dyson V15 vs V11 Outsize share the Dyson DLS (Dynamic Load Sensor) technology which can detect the type of surface you are trying to clean and automatically fine-tune the vacuum’s suction accordingly for optimal performance. But the first one takes the lead with an additional built-in Piezo sensor, which measures and detects specific particles that are sucked up, then exhibits this data on the LCD display while concurrently adjusting the vacuum’s suction power.
