Samsung Jet 90 vs Dyson V8 – In the realm of cordless stick vacuums, Dyson is often the name on everyone’s lips. Meanwhile, Samsung’s illustrious reputation is often associated with high-tech TVs and refrigerators. But, in fact, Samsung has also hit the market with some great stick vacuums, such as the Samsung Jet 90. This model is on par with Dyson’s top-tier and leaves older Dyson contenders, like the V8, in the dust.
The Samsung Jet 90 is currently one of the most expensive stick vacuums available today but for good reasons. It works well on all types of surfaces and adapts to all cleaning situations, thanks to two floorheads and a wide range of attachments. Additionally, it boasts a self-standing charging station that can juice up two batteries simultaneously and a clean station that makes emptying the dustbin as easy as falling off a log.
The Dyson V8 is among Dyson’s most affordable stick vacuums, so don’t expect to get the latest bells and whistles from the brand. However, it still manages to capture the hearts of many with its stellar cleaning performance and a generous assortment of attachments.

Samsung Jet 90 vs Dyson V8: Differences
The Samsung Jet 90 emerges victorious against the Dyson V8 with a score of 3-1. Let’s delve deeper into the pros and cons of each model.
Cleaning Performance
Winner: Dyson V8
Suction Power & Floorhead
At the highest power setting, the Samsung Jet 90 peaked at 200 AW, which is pretty close to the Dyson V15 (230 AW). Meanwhile, the Dyson V8 lagged far behind at 1115 AW maximum suction.
The Samsung Jet 90 comes with two cleaning heads: a Turbo Action Brush and a Soft Action Brush They aren’t equipped with headlights or any kind of anti-tangle technology, which disappointed me a bit.
Likewise, the Dyson V8 also comes out of the box with two floorheads: a Motorbar cleaner head and a Fluffy cleaner head. The Motorbar cleaner head is equipped with de-tangling vanes, which are advertised as completely eliminating the hair wrap issue. It’s worth noting that whether you get the fluffy, soft floorhead depends on the version you choose. In my case, I got my hands on the V8 Absolute.
Hard Floor
The Dyson V8, with its fluffy cleaner head, knocked my socks off with its stellar cleaning performance. It gobbled up all the debris with ease, leaving behind only the slightest trace of fine particles. If you choose the Dyson V8, you won’t get the soft roller, and it will struggle with larger debris.
Along with the Turbo Action Brush, the Samsung Jet 90 also performed excellently on this surface type. All the debris was easily picked up in the first pass, leaving nothing but a spotless floor in its wake.
Carpet
As I moved on to my low-carpet test, the Dyson V8 still showed a great level of performance. It left a meager 2% of large debris and 6% of smaller particles after the initial pass. Regarding the high-pile carpet, the percentage of uncollected debris increased slightly, with 2% of large particles and 7% of the smaller variety remaining.
Similarly, the Samsung Jet 90 also failed to remove all debris in a single pass. It easily removes all large debris from all carpets. But when it came to smaller particles, it left 5% and 6% behind on low and high-pile surfaces, respectively.
Hair Test
Both the Samsung Jet 90 vs Dyson V8 easily collected all the hair/fur on my carpet. However, the second one takes the lead here since its multi-surface floorhead is equipped with anti-tangle technology. There is a row of polycarbonate vanes behind the roller, cleverly designed to prevent hair from getting wrapped around it.
Better yet, the Dyson V8 also comes with a hair screw tool, which lends me a huge hand in picking up hair from smaller surfaces, such as stairs or sofas. So if you are a pet owner, I wholeheartedly recommend the Dyson V8 as a top choice.

When you grab yourself the Samsung Jet 90, one of the most valuable things you’ll get is the Z station. It’s a self-standing charging station that provides room for the vacuum, two attachments, and an extra battery. If you’re not keen on drilling into your wall, this tower is a game-changer.
This tower isn’t pre-assembled, so it’ll require a bit of DIY. But no worries! You don’t have to be a DIY expert with a toolbox full of specialized tools to get the job done. Believe it or not, I could get the whole thing put together in less than 10 minutes, and it’s got the perfect “Z” shape, just like its name suggests.
Nothing is perfect, isn’t it? This charging station has a few minor drawbacks to consider. First, it can’t hold all attachments like the LG Cordzero Kompressor‘s AIO station, so you’ll have to find another spot to stash some attachments. Moreover, it can be a bit of a hassle to find the perfect spot for it, especially in compact apartments where space is at a premium.
The Dyson V8, just like its siblings, comes equipped with a nifty wall docking station. Once you securely fix it to the wall, you’ll have a neat and tidy spot to store and charge the vacuum. It even has room for two attachments, but as with most models, you’ll still need to find a separate place for the remaining attachments.
Ah, gotcha! If drilling into the wall isn’t your cup of tea, I’ve got an alternative solution for you. Simply plug the charger directly into the handhelđ part and find a secure spot, such as a cupboard, to store the rest. That way, you can still keep everything organized without the need for wall drilling. Nice workaround!
Weight & Maneuverability
When fully assembled (with wand and bare floor cleaning head), the Dyson V8 tips the scales at around 5.8 lbs, while the Jet 90 weighs in at approximately 6.87 lbs. Maneuvering both machines is easy and ergonomically pleasant. I felt the Jet 90 didn’t swivel as well as the Dyson V8, but this wasn’t too pronounced.
Both can be used as handheld vacuums by removing the wand from the top portion. In this configuration, they are considerably more compact and lightweight, making them my go-to gadgets for tidying up hard-to-reach areas. When it comes to overhead cleaning—think ceilings and bookshelves—where the full weight of the vacuum is in my hands, the Jet 90 left me with a tired wrist after about 15 minutes of use. Still, tackling the same tasks with the Dyson V8 was a piece of cake—no wrist pain to speak of.
The Jet 90 can lay completely flat and has low-profile cleaning heads, making it a breeze to slide under furniture, even those pieces that sit low to the ground. The Dyson V8 could do the same thing, even making it easier, courtesy of the up-top adapter. This tool basically helped me clean these areas without crouching down, pretty much like the MultiFLEX wand of the Shark Stratos.
Battery Life
The Samsung Jet 90 vs Dyson V8 is claimed to be able to run continuously for 60 and 40 minutes, respectively. But this “ideal” battery life can only be achieved when you use the vacuum at the lowest power setting and attach it with a non-motorized tool. In reality, most users, including myself, tend to rely heavily on the floorhead attachment for regular cleaning. That’s exactly what I used during my battery life test as well.
Samsung Jet 90 | Dyson V8 | |
---|---|---|
Maximum Battery Life | ≈ 42 mins | ≈ 25 mins |
Minimum Battery Life | ≈ 10 mins | ≈ 7 mins |
Charging Time | ≈ 3.5 hours | ≈ 5 hours |
The Samsung Jet 90 sports a swappable battery, meaning you can easily double down on its battery life by grabbing a spare (Buy on Amazon). As touched on earlier, the Z station features a handy charging slot for the backup battery, allowing you to juice up two batteries at the same time.
However, instead of using a click-in battery like the latest Dyson sticks, the Dyson V8 features a screw-in battery that can’t be easily swapped out. You can’t insert a spare battery to use while leaving the other being charged. This is a big minus for this model, especially considering its less-than-impressive battery life.
Dustbin & Filtration System
Winner: Samsung Jet 90
The compromise for the Dyson V8’s lightweight and compact design is a not-so-large dust cup with a capacity of 0.5 liters. On the flip side, the Jet 90 boasts a more spacious 0.8-liter dust tank, sparing you frequent pit stops to empty it and trimming your overall cleaning time.
Emptying the Dyson V8 is very easy – Just pull a vast red tab (with a bin icon) on the handheld part, and as the dustbin reaches about halfway out, the bottom door will open, letting the contents get out. Meanwhile, emptying the Jet 90’s dust tank is quite complicated: I had to remove it from the top portion, remove the micro filter, detach the entire cyclone, and dump all the dust and dirt.
Fortunately, the Jet 90 comes with a clean station, which is designed to make the emptying process hygienic and easier. All you need to do is put the dustbin on the top of this tower, and it will take care of this dirty work for you. All contents will be automatically sucked down to a single-use bag nestled inside the clean station, pretty much like the dust bag you’d find in traditional bagged vacuums. Once this disposable bag is full (after about two to three emptying cycles), it will need to be replaced with a new one. Additionally, it’s essential to give the filter inside the clean station a clean regularly.
This clean station is really a blessing for people with severe allergies. But if you’re fine with emptying the Jet 90’s dustbin manually, you can opt for a cheaper package that doesn’t include this tower.
The Dyson V8 features a sealed HEPA filtration system. The sealed system takes care of preventing the vacuumed air from escaping from your vacuum before the filters remove tiny particles, such as pet dander, dust mites, pollen, and mold spores from it. This combination ensures that the air circulating in your home stays fresh and clean and is a real gem for folks wrestling with serious allergies.
On the other hand, the Jet 90 boasts a comprehensive 5-layer filtration system capable of segregating and filtering up to 99.999% of minuscule particles. This system consists of a cyclone, a micro filter, and a HEPA exhaust filter. The first two filters are washable and should be routinely cleaned under a running tap. As for the HEPA filter, a gentle tap over the trash can suffice to dislodge any accumulated dust and dirt.
Utilities & Other Features
Winner: Samsung Jet 90
User Interface & Control Methođ
The Samsung Jet 90 is equipped with a high-tech display that provides real-time information about the current power setting and offers alerts if the filter is incorrectly installed or if there is a blockage in the tube or brush roll. This is undoubtedly a stellar feature, though it falls short by not displaying the battery level. That duty is relegated to a trio of small LEDs located on the battery itself.
There are three physical buttons at the bottom of the screen: the center one to turn on/off the vacuum and the two on the side to toggle between modes (min, mid, max, and wet). “Wet” mode is activated when the Jet 90 is paired with a spinning sweeper brush, allowing it to act like a mop.
The Dyson V8 features a pistol-grip trigger that demands constant pressure for the vacuum to operate. The moment you release this trigger, the vacuum ceases operation instantly. This design was made with the intention of optimizing battery life. However, it does have a downside in that it can quickly lead to hand fatigue.
