For Dyson V10 Absolute vs Shark Ion F80 comparison, the winner in my opinion is the Dyson V10. The Shark ION F80 can be a good alternative for cleaning multiple surfaces.
The Dyson V10 Absolute wins in terms of cleaning performance and dust cup and filtration system. It has a stronger suction with great designs of brush rolls for cleaner heads to deal with different types and sizes of debris and pet hairs. Moreover, it has a larger dust cup and a nicely sealed HEPA filtration system for hygienic and convenient cleaning.
Meanwhile, the Shark ION F80 has a smaller dust cup capacity and a non-HEPA filter system, which may make them a less favorable choice for large house cleaning. However, with a decent suction and a duo-clean cleaner head, it performs pretty well on different floor types. Therefore, it can be considered a good alternative to the Dyson V10 for standard and basic cleaning tasks.

Dyson V10 Absolute Vs Shark Ion F80: Differences
Through testing and comparing the Dyson V10 Absolute vs Shark ION F80, I decided to choose the V10 Absolute as the winner. In my experience, the Dyson V10 Absolute wins 2-0 against the Sharl ION F80 in terms of cleaning performance and dust bin & filtration.
Cleaning performance
Winner: Dyson V10 Absolute
The suction of the Dyson V10 Absolute and the Shark ION F80 is quite similar. In the low power mode, their suction measurements are around 24 cfm. The difference is noticeable in their high suction mode. Specifically, the suction of the Dyson V10 Absolute in the Max mode is 53 cfm, while that of the Shark ION F80 in the high power mode is just around 38 cfm.
Despite such a difference in suction power, the Shark ION F80’s pick-up efficiency is quite close to that of the Dyson V10 Absolute, in terms of fine to large debris. In my experience, they pull up sugar, cereals, and other stuff on carpeted and hard floors pretty well. However, with high volumes of pet hairs and dirt, the Shark ION F80 is inferior to the Dyson V10 Absolute.
The cleaner heads’ brushroll design is another critical feature impacting the pick-up efficiency of the vacuums. The Dyson V10 Absolute includes the standard motobar cleaner head and the fluffy cleaner head. Meanwhile, the Shark ION F80 has a duo-clean cleaner head. Let’s discuss a little more detail about these vacuums’ cleaning efficiency.
Shark ION F80
The duoclean cleaner head of the ION F80 is comprised of a bristle-brush roller and a soft-brush roller. This combination can create a better seal to enhance the pick-up efficiency. Moreover, with the soft roller in the front, the scattering of debris is reduced effectively, and the ability to collect large things is also enhanced.
Specifically, when I tested the Shark ION F80 with small and fine debris like rice and powder on carpets, it cleaned up all things decently, as the agitation was enough to loosen the dirt. With larger particles, the vacuum can also collect all with little struggle. The tests conducted with the same object size on bare floors also gave the same results.
In addition, the Shark ION F80 has a switch for changing surfaces from carpets to bare floors. This switch changes the brush roll speed and suction power suitable for specific floor types to improve cleaning efficiency. Moreover, with this feature, I don’t have to change the cleaner head when transitioning between carpeted and bare floors when using the Shark ION F80.
However, when dealing with pet hair, the Shark ION F80 easily gets clogged up by hair wrapping as its brush rollers are not designed with a self-cleaning mechanism. Thus, if you have pets, especially those with long hair and shed a lot, you have to cut the tangled hair off the roller frequently.
Dyson V10 Absolute
The Dyson V10 Absolute has two cleaner heads, including a Motorbar and a Fluffy brush rollers. The Motorbar brush roller works well on both carpeted and bare floors. It collects small particles like rice and sand very well.
Besides, it effectively pulls up pet hairs from carpets and hard floors with less clogging than the Shark ION F80. This can be attributed to the detangling design of the motorbar cleaner head. Therefore, I would recommend the Dyson V10 Absolute for pet owners rather than the Shark ION F80.
With larger particles like fruit loops and cereals, the Motorbar cleaner head performs better on carpets than on bare floors. On bare floors, it often pushes the tested objects and needs more passes to collect all of them.
However, the bare-floor cleaning efficiency of the Dyson V10 Absolute can be improved by using the included Fluffy cleaner head. The soft roller of this cleaner head is effective for dealing with not only small and fine dirt particles but also large debris like kibbles and piles of cereals.
Yet, one problem I’ve noticed when using the Dyson V10 Absolute with the fluffy cleaner head is that it scattered the debris on the bare floor when I ran it too quickly. I figured out that pushing it slowly and selecting the low or medium mode could improve the situation.
Design & Convenience
Tie!
Maneuverability & controls
The Shark ION F80 is heavier than the Dyson V10 Absolute. It weighs about 8.7 lbs, while the V10 Absolute is just about 5.7 lbs. When using the ION F80 in the handheld form, I feel that the weight is not distributed evenly, and my arms get tired after holding it for bout 15 mins.
On the other hand, the Dyson V10 Absolute is more balanced and less tiring when held for a long time. However, to keep the power on, I have to continuously pull the power trigger during my cleaning session. For some people, this may cause discomfort owing to the tension put on fingers. Meanwhile, the Shark ION F80 features a single-push button to on and off the power, which can compromise the drawback of being heavier.
Besides, one of the notable differences between these vacuums in this round is the wand design. The Shark ION F80 has a flex wand design, while the Dyson V10 has a fixed wand. This flex wand allows the wand to bend and easily get under furniture without having your body bending all over. Moreover, this flex-wand function makes the Shark ION F80 more compact for storage.
Battery
Considering the runtime per battery between the Dyson V10 and Shark ION F80, the Dyson V10 is the winner. It is because the Dyson V10’s max runtime can reach 60 minutes in the Min suction mode while that of the Shark ION F80 is about 43 minutes. However, the Shark ION F80 comes with a pack of 2 batteries, increasing the max runtime to 80 minutes when used in the handheld form.
The following table shows the estimated runtime in each mode of the Dyson V10 Absolute and Shark ION F80. The battery life was measured with the main cleaner head in use.
Dyson V10 Absolute | Shark ION F80 | |
---|---|---|
Battery pack | x1 battery | x2 batteries |
Runtime (with cleaner head) | Min: ~ 47 mins Med: ~ 26 mins Max: ~ 6 mins | Low: ~ 57 mins High: ~ 27 mins |
Charging time | 3.5 hours | 3.5 hours |
Dust bin & Filtration
Winner: Dyson V10 Absolute
In this category, the Dyson V10 Absolute is the winner because it has a larger dust cup capacity and a more advanced filtration system than the Shark ION F80. Specifically, its dust cup is 0.8 liters, while that of the Shark ION F80 is just 0.3 liters to the max fill line. The larger dust cup will allow you to clean the whole house with less emptying.
Additionally, the Dyson V10 Absolute filtration is a whole-machine sealed filtration system with the ability to filter micro dust up to 0.3 microns, which meets the HEPA standard. Therefore, I don’t have to worry about the dust splitting back into the air when vacuuming. On the other hand, the filtration of Shark ION F80 does not have any HEPA filters, so it may not be a good choice for people who are sensitive to dust.
Utility
Tie!
I gave them a tie in this round because the Shark ION F80 has LED headlights but fewer attachments than the Dyson V10 Absolute. Meanwhile, the Dyson V10 does not have laser light on the fluffy cleaner head like the Dyson V12 or V15, yet its accessory set is more comprehensive than that of the Shark ION F80.
