Get ready to say goodbye to the days of tedious and frustrating vacuuming because Shark is here to save the day! Today, I’m going to take a look at two of their models – the Shark WZ140 vs WZ240 – and find out which one is right for you!
The Shark WZ240 is our winner and is a cordless vacuum cleaner that boasts a powerful motor, swivel steering, and an anti-allergen complete seal system. Its cordless design provides users with greater flexibility and portability. In addition, an advanced motorized brushroll and beater bar work together to provide deep, comprehensive cleaning.
The Shark WZ140 is still capable of cleaning effectively, which is suitable for daily cleaning at the basic level. The WZ140 is more compact and lightweight, making it less expensive, but its more limited features and performance make it the runner-up in this comparison.

Shark WZ140 Vs WZ240: Differences
Shark WZ240 vacuum is the winner with a score of 1-0 and ties twice thanks to its powerful suction and lightweight design. It also offers great maneuverability and flexibility, making it ideal for cleaning hard-to-reach areas.
Cleaning performance
The winner: Shark WZ240
One of the standout features of the WZ140 is its self-cleaning brush roll with powerfins. This brush roll is designed to trap small particles and prevent them from getting suctioned into the canister. While this is a great feature in theory, I have found that these particles can still escape and end up back on the floor. To avoid this issue, I make sure to clean the brush roller and the area where it attaches when I empty the canister.
Similarly, the WZ240 boasts a powerfins brush roll that provides continuous cleaning contact to dig deep into carpets and directly engage floors. One of the most impressive features of this brush roll is its ability to prevent tangling with hair, which is a common issue with other vacuums. It is a real game-changer for those with pets or long hair.
When it comes to bare floor vacuuming, the WZ140 does a pretty decent job. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for carpets in bedrooms. I mainly use it for area rugs in my living room spaces. It’s impressive how it can pick up 95% of visible dust and dirt, but I have to say, it clogs and unclogs quite easily, which is a bit of a letdown.
Despite that, it does do good edge work, but it tends to miss things in front of it. To compensate for this, I’ve learned to hit all my edges from the side, and it picks up great. Besides, I have a pet room, and as you can imagine, it often gets messy with hay, bedding, fur, and anything else my furry friends kick out of their cages. But, I must admit, this vacuum works like a charm for the pet room mess.
Although the primary selling point of this vacuum was its ability to prevent hair from getting tangled around the brush, in my experience, it does not completely live up to that claim. While it may not get tangled as often as some other vacuums, it still happens to some extent.
Now, let’s talk about the WZ240. This vacuum works perfectly on my hardwood floors as well as my carpets, but area rugs are a different story. It can pick up fine debris, but with larger ones, there are some left behind, and it requires going over twice.
While this vacuum could be a suitable choice for individuals with small or minimally shedding pets, it falls short of my needs as an owner of a Great Pyrenees. The vacuum easily becomes clogged when the canister connects to the vacuu. The lever is responsible for opening the canister over the trash appears to be stuck and non-functional once the canister is full. If you have a pet that sheds less, this vacuum may be a viable option for you.
Design & convenience
Tie!
Dimension and weight
The Shark WZ140 measures 14.96 x 10.24 x 46.06 inches and weighs 7.5 pounds, making it a relatively compact and lightweight vacuum cleaner. However, don’t let its size fool you, as it packs a powerful suction that can effectively clean carpets or pet hair.
On the other hand, the Shark WZ240 has slightly larger dimensions, measuring 15 x 10.5 x 46 inches and weighing 7.63 pounds. However, despite its somewhat bulkier build, this vacuum cleaner boasts a robust motor and advanced filtration system for good performance.
In terms of design, both vacuum cleaners feature a sleek and modern appearance, with ergonomic handles and intuitive controls that make cleaning a breeze.
Battery
On the one hand, the WZ140 has a turbo mode that makes quick work of my two-bedroom slab home, but on the other hand, its battery life is disappointingly short. As a result, I stop halfway through my cleaning routine to recharge, which can be quite a bother.
The WZ240, in contrast, has a longer battery life that is sufficient for most of my one-story home in one pass. However, it takes a frustratingly long time to charge, which can be a real inconvenience when I need to use it for smaller jobs.
You can see that the WZ140’s quick cleaning power is impressive, but its battery life leaves much to be desired. Meanwhile, the WZ240’s longer battery life is appreciated, but its charging time is a real buzzkill.
As I consider my options, I feel a burst of frustration. I wish one vacuum could have the best of both worlds: quick cleaning power and a long-lasting battery. But, unfortunately, it seems as though I must choose between the two.
In the end, I suppose it comes down to personal preference and priorities. If quick cleaning is a top priority, then the WZ140 may be better. But if longer battery life is more important, then the WZ240 may be the way to go.
Utility
Tie!
First up, the Shark WZ140 comes with a crevice tool and dusting brush. These attachments allow you to reach tight spaces and corners and also remove dirt and dust from hard-to-reach surfaces like bookshelves, lampshades, and ceiling fans. The crevice tool is particularly useful for cleaning the gaps between furniture or getting into the nooks and crannies of your car’s interior.
On the contrary, the Shark WZ240 comes with a crevice tool and an upholstery tool. The upholstery tool is a game changer when it comes to cleaning furniture, mattresses, and curtains. With its gentle bristles and powerful suction, it can easily remove dust, pet hair, and other allergens from your soft furnishings. Meanwhile, the crevice tool, as its rival, is ideal for cleaning tight spaces.
