Both Dyson V15 Detect and Dyson Outsize are incredible cordless vacuums in the market as they perform excellent cleaning efficacy, have strong suction power, and feature advanced whole-machine sealed filtration. Yet, between Dyson V15 Vs Outsize, the Dyson V15 Detect is the better for me.
The Dyson V15 Detect is easier to control and maneuver owing to its smaller size and being lighter. Additionally, it comes with a fluffy cleaner head with laser light, which optimizes the bare-floor cleaning efficiency to 100%. Moreover, its advanced dust sensor efficiently calculates the picked dust amount and particle sizes, then reports the data on the LCD screen of the vacuum.
For the Dyson Outsize, the big advantage is its larger dust cup that allows the vacuums to hold more dust while less emptying. Besides, it includes a pack of interchangeable 2 batteries, extending the max runtime to 120 minutes. Thus, it is a suitable vacuum for cleaning the whole house with pets.

In the comparison of Dyson V15 vs Outsize, the Dyson V15 wins 2-1 against the Dyson Outsize due to its greater design convenience and utility. Meanwhile, the Dyson Outsize has greater dust bin capacity. Both of them have comparable suction and cleaning performance.

The suction of Dyson V15 and Outsize is astounding for cordless vacuums. As shown in the comparison chart, their suction is above average (>200 AW), and the Dyson V15 even has stronger suction than the Dyson Outsize.
However, it is just the number on paper. The actual performance in cleaning is more crucial to me. After trying both vacuums, I can conclude that their cleaning efficiency is impressive and comparable to each other. Thus, I give them a tie in this round.
The cleaning performance is influenced by many factors besides the suction power. These factors can include the design of the brush roll and cleaner head, the type of debris and dust, and the types of surfaces.
Floor-type compatibility
Overall, the Dyson Outsize and V15 are compatible with multiple surfaces and can effectively pick up many types of debris and dust. Besides, they are good for cleaning pet hairs as their cleaner head are designed with a hair-detangling mechanism.
In particular, the Dyson Outsize is relatively better at cleaning carpets, while the Dyson V15 is more effective in bare-floor cleaning.
- Carpets:
On low and high carpets, the Dyson Outsize gives excellent deep cleaning results (~99.5%). It pulls up embedded fine debris like sand and sugars and hidden pet hairs in just one to two passes. This may be ascribed to the heavier and wider cleaner head of the Dyson Outsize, helping the brush roll dig deeper into the carpet to loosen and pull up the dust.
Meanwhile, the Dyson V15 performance on carpets is a little lower in terms of picking up fine debris (~98%), especially on high-pile carpets. It is lighter and has a smaller cleaner head width; thus, it may not dig into the carpet as deep as the Dyson Outsize does.
- Bare floors:
However, the Dyson V15 is outstanding in pick-up efficiency on bare and hard floors, reaching 100% for all types of debris. It can be attributed to the included fluffy cleaner head with the soft brush roll of the Dyson V15. The fluffy cleaner head is specially engineered for bare floors so that it can pick up fine to large debris without any trouble.
On the other hand, the Dyson Outsize does not include the fluffy soft-brush cleaner head, only the High Torque XL cleaner head with a standard brush roll. Its cleaner head does well on picking up fine debris on hard floors without any trouble but pushes larger debris like cereals and fruit loops forward a little bit. Yet, its performance is still satisfying after several passes.
Dust bin & Filtration
Winner: Dyson Outsize
The Dyson Outsize wins this round due to its larger dust cup capacity. Its dust cup is about 1 liter larger than that of the Dyson V15. Therefore, it can hold more dust hand hair and is suitable for cleaning larger apartments or houses with less emptying.
For the filtration, though both standard Dyson V15 and Outsize models do not have HEPA filters, its whole sealed filtration system can effectively filter microdust up to 99.99% of 0.3-micron particles, meeting the HEPA standard. Besides, suppose you want a more advanced filtration system. In that case, the upgraded version of the Dyson V15 Detect, the V15 Detect Absolute, with the addition of a HEPA post-motor filter, is an ideal option.

Maneuverability & controls
For me, the Dyson V15 is easier to maneuver than the Dyson Outsize models due to its lighter weight and smaller size. As the Outsize features a bigger dust cup and wider cleaner head, handling it in tight corners is troublesome. Apart from that, both of them are easy to steer and transition between carpets and hard floors.
One feature I do not fond of about these two Dyson vacuums is their power trigger. It is tiresome when I have to keep holding the trigger during the entire cleaning for them to vacuum. I think they should redesign their power button for a more comfortable handling experience.
Noise level
In my experience, the Dyson Outsize is a little nosier than the Dyson V15. When running the Outsize over one of my low-pile carpets, I occasionally hear the high-pitch sound. I do not have this problem when using the Dyson V15. Besides, when putting both Dyson V15 and Outsize in Boost mode, I can barely hear what is on my TV, but in general, their noise level is bearable.
Battery
In terms of battery life for cleaning, the Dyson Outsize is relatively better than the Dyson V15. The collected battery runtimes with the cleaner head at different power modes are shown in the table below. These numbers are based on the readouts on their LCD screen.
The larger cleaner head width of the Dyson Outsize helps optimize its battery life owing to the wider coverage, reducing the passes needed to perform over a certain area. This means that the Dyson Outszie models will offer longer runtime for cleaning than the Dyson V15 models.
Besides, the Dyson Outsize comes with an extra battery in its package, increasing the cleaning runtime to 120 mins when using the batteries consecutively. However, the extra battery can be purchased separately, thus, you can buy another one for the Dyson V15.

Meanwhile, Dyson Outsize has several versions, including first-generation Outsize, Outsize Absolute, Outsize Total Clean, Outsize Absolute+, and Outsize+.

In general, I prefer the Dyson V15 when it comes to attachments because both versions of V15 Detect feature two cleaner heads, which is essential for optimizing the cleaning efficiency on carpets and bare floors, while the difference between their price tags is insignificant.
Meanwhile, the standard Dyson Outsize comes with one cleaner head in the package. Other versions, like the Outside Absolute and Outsize+, have an extra fluffy cleaner head, but the price tag difference between them is generous.

The standard Dyson V15 is better than the standard Dyson Outsize owing to the laser light featured on the included fluffy cleaner head. The laser light is not a gimmick for me because it helps spot the micro dust and hair on the floors so effectively, making cleaning the bare floor more satisfying.
Intelligent sensors & display
The dust sensor of the Dyson V15 is more advanced than that of the Outsize. Specifically, the V15 Detect sensor calculates the dust particles to adjust the suction and reports it on the LCD screen.
Apart from that, the LCD screen of these two vacuums all shows the runtime countdown and maintenance alerts.
