Bissell 2252 vs 2316: Differences

As I mentioned above, they are similar models. The official Bissell website also points out that the Bissell 2252 is a similar model to the Bissell 2316. However, I’ve found that the color variations and markets are the key differences between them.

Particularly, the Bissell 2316 has version 2316C for the Canadian market. Meanwhile, I cannot find the Canada version of the Bissell 2252 online. Additionally, the 2316 has two color variations, Green/Silver and Orange/Black. Meanwhile, the 2252 has only the Green/White color version, and the green shade is lighter than that of the Bissell 2316.

Moreover, to differentiate the Bissell 2252 and 2316, you can look at their swivel joints. The swivel joint of Bissell 2316 is in green and of Bissell 2252 is in purple.

Bissell 2252 vs 2316: Review Details

Apart from the differences in colors and markets, Bissell 2252 and 2316 share the same technical specifications, meaning they will have similar functionality and performance. So, let’s review them to see if they meet your cleaning requirements.

Cleaning performance

Their suction is pretty strong, in my experience. The suction at the hose is about 64 inches of water lift with the airflow at the hose of about 78 cfm, pretty much higher than many vacuums in the same price range.

With that amount of suction, their pick-up efficiency is impressive. For the deep cleaning carpet tests, they can suck up all pet hair and sand embedded in the low-pile to high-pile carpets, giving 100% efficiency for carpet cleaning.

Besides, they are also easy to move on even high and thick carpets though they do not have any option to adjust the suction amount. This is attributed to their adjustable head nozzle height, which gives you 5 height levels to choose from and is suitable for many surfaces. After some experiments, I can select the most appropriate setting for my carpets and hard floors.

Nevertheless, their brush roller cannot be turned off for cleaning bare floors, which may lead to debris scattering. However, this is not a big problem for Bissell 2252 and 2316, thanks to their adjustable nozzle height. As I demonstrated, I found that the lowest to the medium setting of the nozzle height is effective for cleaning bare floors without debris scattering. The scattering will occur as the height of the nozzle is higher.

Adding to the adjustable height of the cleaning head, its bottom design also supports limiting debris scattering. It has a little squeegee to create a better seal on the bare floor, especially with a suitable nozzle height.

However, one thing that I don’t like about their brush roll system is that it does not shut off when the vacuum body is in the straight upright position. The brush beater continuously spins unless you turn off the vacuum power. Thus, I am afraid that it will damage my floors and carpets whenever I use the hose.

In that case, I often set the nozzle height to the highest, and it turns out to be a good solution as the direct interaction between the brush and the cleaning surface is significantly limited. Therefore, the adjustable nozzle height and the great suction are among the features I really appreciate, especially for vacuum products in such a low price range.

Design & Convenience

Besides the good suction, the user-friendly design is what makes Bissell 2252 and 2316 popular for homeowners. They are easy to assemble. It only took me less than 5 minutes to put all the parts together.

They are easy to maneuver as they are lightweight (12.5 lbs) and have good swivel heads and smooth wheels. Besides, their cord and hose lengths, which are 25 ft. and 6 ft., respectively, are enough for whole house cleaning.

Moreover, both Bissell 2316 and 2252 come with a good set of attachments, including a Crevice Tool, a combination of Dusting Brush and Upholstery Tool, an Extension Wand, and a Pet TurboEraser Tool. All accessories are easy to use and handy for cleaning different types of surfaces. Additionally, their onboard storages have enough room for carrying all attachments.

However, Bissell 2252 and 2316 do not feature the lift-away feature that allows the canister to be detached and easily carried. Besides, they are a little louder, with a noise level of ~84 dB.  But their price is a steal for their cleaning performance and friendly design, so I think such drawbacks are not significant and are a trade-off.

Dirt tank & Filtration

The Bissell 2252 and 2316 have the same dust cup capacity of 1.0 liter (~1.1 quarts), which is large enough for me. In addition, their dust cups are easy to detach, dump, and clean.

However, I do not really like their filtration. They do come with multiple filter foams that are reusable after gentle rinsing and drying. And that’s it. They do not have sealed HEPA filtration like other higher-price vacuums I owned.

I personally prefer HEPA filters with an allergen-seal system because this filtration system will help significantly reduce the allergen and dust odors released from the vacuum. This will help protect your health in the long term.
