The Eureka NEU182A vs NEU182B: Is there any difference? If only I had known that the only difference between them was the color before, I wouldn’t have bought both.

I’d like to say both the Eureka NEU182A and Eureka NEU182B are among the most powerful machines I’ve ever seen for their price tags! But they are very noisy and tend to heat up during use.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they will last a long time, but even if they don’t, they still are a bargain compared to many other under-$100 vacuums on the market. I definitely won’t feel abused, even if they only lasted one or two years.

Eureka NEU182A vs NEU182B: Similarities

Both the Eureka NEU182A vs NEU182B are impressive vacuums for the price. I couldn’t believe that vacuum cleaners that cost less than $100 performed like workhorses. Of course, they have many disadvantages that you need to know before making an order.

Cleaning Performance

Both the Eureka NEU182A vs NEU182B generated incredibly powerful suction and worked equally well on hardwood floors and carpets. I was glad these machines performed great on my dense rugs and thick carpets, which few under-$100 models can do, but they were slightly overkill for my thin, lightweight rugs

Hence, I strongly recommend ensuring the unit is in the proper setting. As for many uprights, the carpet/floor setting usually doesn’t make a difference. These Eureka vacuums are among the models I’ve had where the surface-type setting actually matters.

Like many other vacuums without self-cleaning brush rollers, you need to untangle their rollers to prolong brush/motor/belt life and preserve their efficiency. Furthermore, I found a decent amount of long hair wrapped around the wheel, so I also had to take care of this.

The worst thing about these uprights is how noisy they are. I was unsure if that was a trade-off for strong suction, but they were really loud, close to the point of being deafening. After just half an hour, my ears were aching. It might be bearable for vacuuming in a short amount of time. But if you have a large house, wearing earplugs is essential.

Weight and Maneuverability

Both the Eureka NEU182A vs NEU182B are incredibly lightweight. They weigh around 8 pounds, but I think it feels like 5 pounds. These machines are lightweight because they are mostly made of plastic, but not the cheap kind. With a carefully-placed handle and well-designed swivel steering, it is easy to move from room to room.

Cord Length

Eureka NEU182A vs NEU182B share a 23-to-25-foot power cord. This length is somewhat short, so you may have to stop, unplug, and move the unit to a new outlet during the vacuuming process.

Moreover, as for a corded vacuum, I preferred a retractable cord, and these machines don’t have this nice-to-have feature. This is not a deal breaker, but it would be great if Eureka added this feature to the next model. I hate wrapping the cord manually, which is a waste of time!

Control

There’s a big flat knob on top of the floorhead, which enables you to toggle between nearly half a dozen brush depth adjustment settings with ease

Some other users complain that the rollers of these machines always spin and cannot be turned off, while the old Eureka vacuum had a 2-way switch that could turn the roller on and off. Don’t worry! You can raise the level of the brush roller before vacuuming your hard floor to avoid scratching it.

Attachments

Both the Eureka NEU182A vs NEU182B share a quick-release handle connected to the stretch hose to combine with one of three attachments: a crevice tool, an upholstery tool, and a dusting brush. They are all stored on board, so you can use them anytime without wasting time finding and taking them.

The crevice tool, with a narrow suction tube, worked well in tight spaces and hard-to-reach areas like heating vents and baseboard edges. The upholstery brush works best for picking up hair, lint, and other debris from couches and chairs. Finally, the dusting brush is helpful in cleaning more delicate household items, such as window blinds, lampshades, and drapes.

You should read the owner’s manual to understand how all the attachments work. You can attach the attachment directly to the hose of the upright or to the handle if you want to get more reach.

Dust Cup Capacity

The Eureka NEU182A’s dust cup

Both the Eureka NEU182A vs NEU182B share a 2.6-liter dust cup, which is somewhat large, so it doesn’t need to be emptied so often.

There is a push button on the top handle that you need to push to detach the dust bin from the unit. Then, you’ll need to keep the dust cup high above the trash can and press another button on the bottom to release a gravity-operated “lid.” I like the way Dyson put the release button on top of the dust cup because it allows me to put it deep into the trash can to prevent dirt and dust from spreading around.

Filter System

The last thing these machines have in common is the removable filter. The filter is foam with some sort of paper on top, which can prevent dust from blowing into the motor. Being gentle with it, I could take it off, clean it under running water, then let it dry completely for about 24 hours before reuse. I saw it degraded over time, but if it can last four months (or more), I only need to replace it about three times per year. It is very cost-effective!
